The Surestay Plus is a nice value hotel. The owner and staff are all super friendly. The full breakfast is pretty good. They have a pool and there is also an on premise bar that gives you a nice place to wind down.

My wife and I have a handyman business. (Dragger's handyman service) We had 3 contracts in Lubbock that we were under. We had been driving back and forth daily and sometimes twice a day. We have 11 dogs and some chickens that count on us to be there. The extra driving and long working hours started to wear us down. .We made arrangements for our neighbor to take care of our animals. We had decided to get a hotel close to where we were working so we could concentrate on finishing our contracts. That way instead of driving we could be handling our business. We ended up going to sure stay plus by best western. It was on a Sunday night so we paid for 2 nights with our credit card. When we went into the room it didn't have that crisp look or feel to it. We took showers and went to bed. I woke up about 3am and started going over some paperwork. Right in front of me a roach was crawling across the wall. My wife woke up and she was telling me that she noticed some mold in the bathroom. With that being said we decided it would be easier to just stay there then to switch hotels.
We came back on Monday night and check out was the next morning. We decided to stay one more day at the hotel so we could finish our work. My neighbor was meeting us at the job site in the morning he had our two female bulldogs and they were both in heat. I went to the office of the hotel and talked with the person running the desk. I told him I wanted to pay for one more night and I will have my dogs tomorrow as well. He told me to come to the office in the morning and take care of it then. My neighbor had dropped. The two dogs off as planned. I brought them to the room . I then went to pay for the room . The older lady working the desk rudely accused me of having my dogs there without telling them about it. I explained to her that I was told to take care of the room payment this morning . She accused me of living to her and informed me that she was going to ask the night person if what I told her was true. I asked her to let me know when she talked to him because I thought maybe she would apologize to me for her accusations boy was I wrong. The next morning I got to the hotel at a little past 10am. So I could pack our belongings up for check out. This same worker was standing outside my room. She told me that I needed to pay for the dogs for three days assuming that I had the dogs there since we checked in . I explained to her that the dogs were only there one day and I already paid the pet fee. In fact she was who I gave the money to for the room and for pet fees.i paid cash for the last day since my card was declined. She told me again I owed her 30 dollars per day for the pet fee. I told her she was crazy. That I only had the pets there one day and I paid her the money for the room and for the pet fees.
As I was packing our belongings out of the hotel and into our truck she was visually searching and inspecting what I had. I had a considerable amount of tools in the room everything you need to do a complete remodel on a home. She looked more upset Everytime I brought out another load of tools. Back and forth I went she must not had anything else to do. When I brought the last bag out of the room I looked at her and said I can't fit anymore in the truck and I will be back to get the rest of my tools in a while. I should not have lowered myself to her level and said that as I did it just to be mean. I truly am sorry.
Later that night I'm looking at my transactions on my bank card and there was $165 transactions from the hotel. Apparently she used the information from my card that I used for the first two nights we stayed there and charged me an additional $165 . I had paid the last night we stayed there with cash and paid the pet fees with cash. I owed the hotel no money at all but they hit my card for $165. I personally made sure that our room was in excellent condition when we left. garbage out, I counted the towels and made sure e

For an older hotel, it's in great shape. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms are clean. The pool seems to close pretty early for the season. The temperature was in the mid '90s but the pool was already closed for the season. But it's been a great experience.
Rooms: The room was great. Very comfy and everything was stocked and worked.

A kitchen worker decided to yell at me because she found out it was myself, my son, and 4 grandchildren ages 5 to 10. I kept trying to let her know the front desk saw all of us and did not say anything. But she decided I was wrong because she said there is supposed to be only 4 people to a room and I had to get another if there are more than 4.
Rooms: Small and smelled like stale cigarette smoke

Rooms: Typical hotel room. Everything you need - decent size tv, coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge
Nearby activities: Great area. TTU basically across the street.
Safety: Well lit building. Neighborhood seems safe. Security truck patrols regularly. The exit door on my floor was broken, but they fixed it before I left and never even had to ask.
Walkability: Maxey Park and walking trails are close. Great area.
Food and drinks: Close to lots of eateries.

I am here to be with my mom in the hospital I accidentally lost my room key the manager got irritated and processed to tell me these keys are expensive I responded that I was sorry my mind was on my mom I apologize she then said you need to put it somewhere so you don't lose it then the following day I asked for room service after we came bake from the hospital she stopped my son to tell him to tell me that there was a stain on my pillow case that she couldn't get out and tha t I needed to reuse it cause she didn't want me ruining any other pillows so I found them on my bed. Now not one time did I see her bother or be little any other guest but at that time there where no other African American people there that I had seen I am very unhappy to deal with this and my mom in the hospital fighting fir her life it's to much I will not stay here again if I can help it .

Staff stared a lot and didn't give off a friendly vibe. Also, one of the women who worked the front desk kept, for lack of a better word, micro-managing how things were managed. Like if someone used the incorrect cup for juice she would get onto the customer about it, even though the cup is going in the trash.

I had booked back in April 2024 for a room in August for my friends ceremony graduation at Texas Tech. The funds left my account and I even received an email that I’d be paying nothing upon arrival.
After 5hours of driving we go to check in and the receptionist is in her phone sitting down. We informed her we had a room to check unit. Handed her my ID and card. She said I needed to pay. I was so confused and showed her the email. And she told me she doesn’t know what to tell me but to call who ever I booked it with. I told her I booked it directly with best western. Not through any third party like (Priceline or Travel). She told me “I don’t know how to help you. But you need to pay.”
She went and sat back down on her phone.
We tried calling best western customer service. And they requested we go get bank statements from April and prove we paid it.
Then a man is leaving in a rush and my husband asked if he was okay. He replied “The receptionist gave me a card key to someone else’s room. When I opened it the man pulled a gun out on me”
The poor man left scared.
If there was more professional people and efficiency. This place would run smooth.
As of right now I don’t recommend anyone to book here. Pay the extra and go down to Holiday Inn down the street. We had the best experience there.
Please don’t book here.
Safety: It’s not a safe location due to the poor customer service. And the way the hotel is ran.
