Hours: The Marshall Depot is a historic Texas & Pacific Railroad station that continues to function as an active Amtrak depot. The building itself is gorgeous, clean, and mostly restored, serving as both a working station and a niche museum focused on railroad and train history. The multilevel landmark is considered a wonderful place that put Marshall on the map. The museum offers a very nice place to learn through pictures, tools, dinner bells, old train sets, and great information about the admirable restoration effort. It features a good collection of interesting train memorabilia, including a large-scale model HO train layout that moves. The experience is fun and interactive for kids, who can climb on a full-sized Mikado locomotive and step into a real caboose. While small and very niche, the museum packs in quite a bit, including the history of Boogie Woogie. Outside, there are several old-timey trains displayed in an outdoor setting. The site includes multiple historical markers detailing the depot's rich history and nearby events. There is a gift shop with T-shirts and hats for purchase that are not expensive. Access is made easier with an elevator for handicap individuals, and there is lots of parking. The depot is located off a nice residential street with beautiful old homes. For those into historic buildings or trains, it is worth the trip and a worthwhile stop.
