I chatted with winery owner Dan McLaughlin and his lovely wife Jeanie till the cows came home. They bought the winery in 2012 and promised to keep the original name. I had a wonderful visit! It was refreshing to see and hear a couple with a passion for producing small batch, extremely high quality wines.

We did a private tasting and it was absolutely incredible!! The wines are awesome, I mean who ages wines for 6 years in a barrel, but Dan was even better. He is so willing to share stories and teach about the things he’s learned!! This is a must stop if you love Texas wines!!!

Robert Clay Vineyard is our favorite place to go for date night! It's hard for me to pick a favorite wine, I love the 2015 Merlot and the Sangiovese they also have the best Chardonnay ever! Of course the atmosphere is great. We love Dan and Jeanie!

We enjoyed our wine tasting visit with Jeannie. She was very friendly and accommodating during our visit. We love that the wines are 100% estate Texas wines. They have filtered and unfiltered wines, with and without sulfates. I love the philosophy of their wine growing and wine making. Our favorite wines were the Merlot, both 2015 and 2016, along with the RTM and the Sangiovese.

One of my favorite places! There are many wineries west of Austin these days, but Robert Clay Vineyards really stands out. The wines are amazing and constantly evolving. The owners are such sweet people and make you feel like family. You can taste the love they pour into these wines! Just go!

I stumbled upon this winery by mistake, having to use the bathroom. Since I was there, the wine hostess told me about how their wines were barreled outside vs. inside. She was extra passionate about the uniqueness of her story which prompted me to try their port wine- a sweet, dessert red, my favorite. Immediately, I was sold on the rich, quality of this wine. I was so fascinated, I forgot my credit card in the credit card machine. Lol. Thank you for running it out to my car!! Lastly, the bible verse on the bottle was extra special!

What can I say about Robert Clay vineyards... A phenomenal vineyard with a stellar wine maker! Any of you who have sampled and enjoyed Texas wines need to head to this hidden gem in Mason, Texas! Many of the big Texas wineries have actually utilized the grapes from this incredible vineyard. They have clambered over his fruits and frequently ask for some of his supply. Robert Clay vineyard is now making their own wines with these amazing grapes. They are releasing incredible wines that have been barrel-aged for countless months. These premium boutique wines are truly amazing and are very limited in their production. The winemaker Dan has established a natural growing technique combined with a clean and pure wine making process that is producing some of the very best wines in Texas! The Touriga is truly amazing and is being featured at the renowned Chris Shepherd's Wild Oats Restaurant in Houston, Texas. My favorites are the Touriga, the Merlot, and the RTM. Take my advice and try them while they still have a supply!!!

Taste some of the best Texas wines available. Robert Clay originally grew the grapes used by such notable winemakers as William Chris, but he is now wearing the dual hats of viticulturist AND wine maker, and he is really showing the passion that is needed to make great wine. You almost can't spit in Texas without hitting a winery these days, but finding wines that are actually worth drinking is hard. (And even notable and large wineries lose their winemakers and the quality goes down dramatically.) I've got a small list of great Texas winemakers, and from what I just tasted, Robert Clay belongs on that list. One last thing: the tasting room is a fun experience. Robert's son and wife were there, and they all have a passion and enjoy talking about their wines. If you like to geek out and learn a thing or two, this is a great place to go.

Great little place in the hill country. Family owned and operated. Great wine and they didn’t mind my kids tagging along with us. We will be back next time we are in the area.
