I have gotten some pretty decent stuff here, but we recently bought a bed marked KING and it was a California King. And of course you can’t return. Annoying, to say the least.

Restore is located between my house and HD and Lowes in McKinney so it's a no-brainer. It's a thrift store for hairy legged DIY-ers - male and female. A variety of used and new items priced at a fraction of retail. Ask for Charles. He went above and beyond to help me out. He'll do the same for you.

I visited in August 2023 and again in mid-October 2023 and I swear the inventory hasn't changed at all. Same shoddy broken furniture that no one wants, and overpriced at that. I'm talking broken floor lamps for $40, broken bookshelves for $60, and today they have an antique (1930s) dental drill (!) for $80! (Never mind that it looks broken... WHO is going around to thrift stores and looking for... antique dental drills?)Did I mention how EXPEN$IVE everything is? (Even the broken stuff!)The employees (or are they volunteers?) are all surly and look like they don't want to be there. The employee (an older woman) at the front counter kept giving me a dirty look, even though I was just walking around and browsing. An older man (a worker, but not sure what he does) told me "you can't go back there" (to the rear section of the store where they keep their inventory), even though that's where the PUBLIC RESTROOM is.If you're looking for secondhand or surplus building/construction materiel, such as "gently used" front entrance doors and the like, you won't find it here. There's a lot of broken glass, broken metal, some sliding patio doors that look like they've been sitting there since the '90s.I'm not from the area (north Texas) originally, but I heard about this place when I moved here. I asked my friend what one can buy there; she said "paint." That about sums it up.

Found a signed picture of Tom Jones on one of the art shelves where other items were for sale. No certificate of authenticity. Took it to the counter to ask for a price and buy the item since it wasn't labeled. They told us they wouldn't sell it to us because it wasn't priced, and they wanted to see how much they could get for it before selling it. They wanted us to come back and get it once they had looked it up and priced it for what the internet said it was worth. Non-profit greed at its finest. All for a DONATED item. Might as well buy one at a store that's brand new and in great condition. No more donations from us! P.S. The manager (person who is SALARIED and not a volunteer) would not speak to us.

Quick Summary: Overpriced items, failure to answer their phones when one wants to donate, donation charge (that is not tax deductible despite them being a not for profit) if they have to come into your home to pick up the item (regardless of flooring location), quality of items in ReStore lack luster, even when new = Not worth it

I drove towards the Receiving Door to donate a good gas dryer. When I approached the drive, there was an older man sitting in a “Habitat for Humanity” box truck blocking the drive. He was eating an apple. I lightly bumped the horn to get his attention. I waited for him to see me and move, but that didn’t happen.Again I lightly bumped my horn to get his attention. He looked right at me and continued eating his apple. He wasn’t budging and didn’t care that he was blocking the drive.I approached very slowly and moved my mirror in trying to get my vehicle by. I bumped the horn again. He just watched me. He never moved. I squeezed by.I parked and walked in to find someone to help me unload the dryer. I found a woman who called to get a man to help us unload the dryer. A man came walking by after about 10 minutes. She asked if he would help. He gladly said Yes and lowered my tailgate. The older man with the apple hopped out of his box truck with his apple still in hand and angrily told the man not to help us, that “she needs to learn.” He was demanding, hateful, unashamed of making a hostile environment for everyone. If he behaves like that on property, he is certainly worse when he is picking up things at peoples houses. I can only imagine how poorly he treats his helper. He probably has road rage and expresses his entitlement and control wherever he goes. He shouldn’t be trusted with any authority at all. Certainly not over people. He is a very angry man.The woman who was trying to find help to unload the dryer, was upset and shaken. She didn’t deserve that. Nor did the helper. Nor did I.

I took a dinette set over there that they "passed on." It was undamaged. They still sell it at Ashley Home Store. This is the same Restore that is selling dressers that are missing there handles and bookshelves that are missing shelves. It does not benefit us in anyway to load things in our trucks and take them over there to donate. Trash removal is included in our water bills in Mckinney and the city will pick things up on a 1 day notice. You can even schedule it online. There is a huge neighborhood to the west of downtown, and plenty of apartment complexes, full of people that need dining room furniture. What they don't need is a china cabinet. What we don't need is Restore. Because honestly I have never seen them do anything for the community in Mckinney. Habitat for Humanity has turned into another not-for-profit scam like Goodwill.
