The Ivy of McKinney is such a warm and welcoming community. The residents are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet, and you can tell there's a true sense of independence here with the full kitchens (dishwasher included) and washer / dryers in the apartments. At the same time, there's a great peace of mind and comfort knowing that supportive and caring help is always close by if it's ever needed. What stands out the most to me is how much the team focuses on keeping families connected, it really feels like one big family. They host gatherings that are wonderful for kids, grandkids, and of course the residents, which makes visiting such a special experience!

AVOID. I just took a tour of the facility while looking for a home for my father. We met with Ericka, the Community Relations Director in the office to the left of the front door. The office smelled HEAVILY of marijuana. When I stated, “Hm, why does it smell like marijuana in here?” I got no response. I will be reporting them to the state.
In addition, on our tour when we stated we would maybe be interested in a studio apartment she knocked and entered someone’s occupied apartment to show us. She insisted the tenant didn’t mind, but it felt highly invasive and I wouldn’t want someone entering my father’s room for a tour whenever they felt like it. I wouldn’t send any family members here and I would be concerned for anyone who currently does.

My dad is so happy at The Ivy of McKinney. They take really good care of him and you can tell that they really do care about each and every person. There are so many activities that each day is just a joy. My dad especially comments on how excellent the food is and the great entertainment that they bring in. Cleanliness has always been a big deal for him. He absolutely loves the cleaning staff and says they do a great job. Sending out a big thank you to Paula and her staff.

The Ivy is a community that has a strong and tenured team that allows each resident to live with dignity. It’s a very active community located near a major hospital and several other healthcare resources. If you have a loved one in need of senior living please reach out to them for guidance in answering any questions you may have.

I’ve waited a year and a half to leave a review. I looked at at least 10 AL’s in McKinney, and ultimately made my choice with the Ivy, because I saw my parents “people” there. Folks that I thought they would bond with. Settling in is always hard, with memory issues especially, but they have felt at home at The Ivy for over a year now. The staff becomes family, and they know and really care for each resident. The staff also respects the Ivy as the resident’s home. Keeping the temps where they like, the volumes where they like, and playing games and doing activities that they can join in and enjoy. The apartments are large. The best I saw in all my touring. Living room, kitchens, dishwashers, bedrooms, walk in closets and washer dryers, large bathrooms with nice showers…. No one else compared. The facility was older than some, but the room sizes were much nicer. The activities directors there are the life and soul of the place. They keep the residents engaged. My mother’s health has improved so much since being there, and my Dad has had his outburst issues, but is now calmer and sweeter than he’s ever been, just enjoying being taken care of. They participate in every activity and their days are full, and they go to sleep tired, and content. It was hard moving my parents. There was a lot of trauma leading up to the decision, but The Ivy has been our saving grace. My parents no longer live in fear and anxiety, and neither do I. They are safe, cared for, and happy. Visits are enjoyable! It’s so nice to be able to be their daughter again, not their care taker. I see my parents living out their years here.

Couldn't be more Pleased! My sister and I have recently had to find a place for our mom & dad. The Ivy of McKinney is far and away the best best place. Their service & staff is second to none. They have a leadership team (James Fisher, Renee Najarro and care coordinator Nyree) that I would stack against any. They have addressed any and every care and concern promptly and professionally the whole way through. They understand completely the daughnting challenges presented when people must make a change from the way the are traditionally used to living. They make the entire transition as painless as possible. Their dedication is unparalelled, as much as even when out of town the concern and care about the stutus of my parents was put before tending to their own family business. Now show me that anywhere these days. Would you do that? This has to be a direct reflection on Ally Senior Living, that they would aquisition and do whatever is necessary to retain top shelf leadership like this.

Worst place ever!!! This place is absolutely a mess. We had such a bad experience from the beginning. First they didn't let us move my dad in on the weekend because they wanted the nurse to be there to welcome him, but when we took him on Monday she wasn't even there. Then they overcharged us. The worst part was that they kept making mistakes with my dad's medication, at first they said it was a miscommunication between them and his doctor's office, so we got it fixed, then they kept doing it over and over. The lead nurse Renee is all over the place, very disorganized and unprofessional. When they kept making mistakes with my dad's meds, I went to the place and requested his medication log and she didn't want to give it to me, gave me all these excuses, so I requested to talk to director, Paula and well of course she apologized then I requested my dad's med list and log from her and finally the nurse brought it in. They had wrong dosing and time for a couple of his meds. Paula the director said they were going to fix it on their system and email me a copy of the updated list the next day. Well she never did, I emailed her and also texted Renee, and they both ignored me. So, yes, the director Paula is also very unprofessional and careless. They also lied one time when they gave my dad his meds at the wrong time and they said they didn't, but we had a camera in his room so we knew they were lying. Brenda, one of the medical techs was also a mess and was rude to my dad many times. She would yell at him. One time she was missing a medication and my dad was trying to tell her and she wouldn't let him talk, then said it wasn't true, so my dad wanted to take a picture of the meds to show my mom to see which one was missing and she yelled at him and told him he couldn't take a picture. When I called to find out what was going on she also yelled at me and blamed the lead nurse Renee for the mistake. They also told us if my dad didn't like something on the menu, he could get something else, like a burger, sandwich, chicken breast, salad. Etc. Well they would only give him grilled cheese and baked potatoes, and some rude lady from the kitchen would always tell him that that's all they had. We called several times and spoke directly to the kitchen manager and promised us they would give him chicken breast and salad (we wanted something healthy) then they would end up giving him a baked potato again. It was so frustrating. Also, the front girl Monica is always on her phone with her boyfriend and will completely ignore you. She also has an attitude problem. Also, some of the reviews on here are from their employees so don't let them fool you. If you truly care about your loved one please find another place for them. It truly breaks my heart to think that they do this to the other residents as well.

Unfortunately our experience with the assisted living facility at the Ivy was very unpleasant. While our LO was at this facility there were mistakes being made constantly, from nutritional plan to medications (dosages, times). We would talk to them and send emails with specific clear instructions and even then they would still make the same mistakes over and over. There is no accountability, med techs blame the nurse for lack of instructions and constant mistakes and Nurse blames the med techs. There is a lot of miscommunication within the staff and a lack of good customer service. We were so disappointed, we placed our trust in a facility that can’t be trusted.
