My wife and I had what can only be described as one of the most uncomfortable and insulting retail experiences of our lives at this Dollar General location. What should have been a quick, convenient stop turned into an encounter that left us feeling profiled and unwelcome.
We had just spent several hours at Walmart shopping for storage containers and various supplies for our RV. On our way to the RV lot, we happened to drive past this Dollar General store and decided to make a quick stop. Our goal was simple: see if they had a better option for a trash can and browse to compare prices on items we had just purchased at Walmart. Nothing unusual about comparison shopping, right?
From the moment we walked through the door, we were met with suspicious, accusatory stares from the staff. The looks we received weren't just casual customer acknowledgment – they were the kind of looks reserved for people you suspect are up to no good. It was immediately clear that we were being watched and judged, despite being regular, law-abiding customers simply looking to make a purchase.
As we were preparing to leave the store, something happened that I have never experienced in decades of shopping: a recording came over the PA system announcing that if the store had suspicion of someone stealing, they had the right to search customers. The timing felt deliberate and targeted. My wife was simply holding her wallet in her hand, and I had nothing in my hands whatsoever. There was absolutely no reason for such an announcement other than to intimidate us.
The woman behind the cash register gave us a look of such pure disgust and contempt that it's difficult to put into words. It wasn't just unfriendly customer service – it was a look that conveyed hatred and judgment. In all my years of shopping at various establishments, I have never been made to feel so unwelcome and disrespected as a paying customer.
This experience was completely unacceptable and frankly shocking. We came in as potential customers with money to spend and left feeling like we had been treated as criminals for simply existing in their store. The level of suspicion, profiling, and outright hostility we encountered was unprofessional, unnecessary, and deeply offensive.
**Will we return?** Absolutely not. This Dollar General has lost our business permanently.
**Would I recommend this location?** Not to anyone who values being treated with basic human dignity and respect.
I sincerely hope the staff member behind the register finds some peace and perspective in her life, because the energy and negativity she was projecting certainly isn't contributing to a positive work environment or customer experience. Every customer deserves to be treated with basic courtesy, regardless of assumptions or prejudices.
**Management should address this immediately** – this kind of customer treatment is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the entire Dollar General brand.
