I highly recommend adopting, there are so many animals that need a chance. So many have had such horrible lives! And I hate calling them animals because people are the animals! I would rather call them innocent victims of humans! I can’t imagine how Jesus feels when he looks down on us and sees what people have done to his creations! If this makes a difference in just one more innocent baby getting a good home with people who love them unconditionally then it’s worth me writing to remind everybody they are Gods animals! WWJD?

Popularity contest- they arranged a group meet and greet because multiple people wanted the same dog. We were first to show up. The dog spent most of the time with our family while there the employee wrote multiple positive notes on our application. The only other family that the dog paid any attention to was a loud family of 4 that showed up over an hour after us and the dog didn’t like the dad of that family. They ended up adopting him to some other family which is great I hope he has a good home….but be HUMANE, and let us know you gave him to another family. We checked almost everyday for 4 days. My daughter went with us and asked everyday if we would get him and I had to break her heart.

This place was horrible. I’m not sure how anyone could leave a positive review. Every dog cage was filthy. All the dog cages are tiny and some of them stand on pallets. It breaks my heart for these animals. I’ve never seen anything so horrible.

We didn't have a very good experience at the humane society here in Odessa. We had to figure out how to get in the place and once we did there were a couple of workers sitting down outside talking amongst themselves and they didn't greet us or even help us by telling us where to go or who to speak to. We had found a little puppy early that morning and didn't know what to do with it so we thought we'd take it to the humane society and they would take over from there. After standing around for twenty minutes waiting for the volunteers or workers to acknowledge us we went inside a little office looking for someone else to help us without success. In the meantime there were a few people dropping off donations for the place and they too were ignored and asked us if we'd let the owners or volunteers know that they left donations... Finally after standing there a total of about thirty minutes the one lady who was talking with the other lady (volunteers/workers) asked if anyone had helped us in the little office we went inside and after telling her no one had helped us yet she went inside and called someone from in the back to help us.... After explaining to the lady who we assume owns the place about finding the little puppy and that we couldn't keep it (our apartment complex won't allow it) she cut us off and said they were too full and that they couldn't keep it either. We understand that these places are overcrowded but we were just two old women trying to do our best by taking the little guy somewhere where it wouldn't get ran over etc.... She told us that maybe it was best to just take him to the shelter (it's a kill shelter) rather than leave him out on the street to fend for himself... She said that sometimes putting them to sleep was better than them running the streets guys. We were flabbergasted given that this was a place that was supposed to help and given the fact that the little puppy was healthy and probably only three months old. He was well taken care of at some point and there wasn't a flea or tick on him.... He deserved a chance but she was adamant about not being able to keep him even though I was willing to donate money for his care. Long story longer we were literally sobbing when we left the human society out west of town here in Odessa because of their lack of professionalism and compassion. After going home and reading through all the pet sites ( I listed him on at least five pet sites) I'd listed him on when I found him earlier that morning (I heard him yelping and crying at five in the morning) I finally found a lady who came and got him. However, it's just heartbreaking and unbelievable when an owner of a rescue advises us to take him to a kill shelter because they can't take him. Especially when we were willing to donate for his care.... I will never go to the humane society again and they really need to work on their people skills and how to be at least semi professional when you're dealing with people who want to help. My heart breaks for the animals that have been turned away because of her recommendations to take them to a kill shelter! We've gotta do better. Thanks for letting me tell y'all about my experience with the humane society here in Odessa Texas.(The one that's way out west of town) ok

You can tell they really try. They do 110% with limited funds. There is nothing great to say about a shelter overflowing with animals, but who's fault is that?

This review is in parts. First this is a sad place but what humane society isn't. People are nice and seems like all animals are taken care of.Now Odessa as a whole. As I explore and just live here I find myself walking in my front door after being out running errands feeling almost angry, and I asked myself why are you mad? As I go from business to business I try to smile...again I TRY to smile. We should just smile. The angry people, the attitudes that are almost always bad ones makes me wonder why Odessa? When did we turn into a cold, stand offish, almost New York frame of mind city. If you run into me or vice versa I'm going to smoke at you and say a little hello, why does that anger some? I get dirty looks and I wonder why. I'm smiling because you're a fellow human, a fellow Texan maybe,a possible friend,or just maybe I'm trying to spread a little something that is disappearing in our little corner of the world. Let's be an example to our future. Let's keep it nice Odessa. Sorry to vent on your review Humane society. Your title made me realize we all need to be a little more humane in our society
