They didn't seal the filter properly and oil had leaked out until it was practically empty. The mechanic here recognized that if we kept driving we could seriously damage the engine if not crack it. He and two others from his shop acted quickly to replace the old filter, seal the compartment in properly and refill the engine with synthetic oil. They also tried to help wipe the spilt oil from the car exterior. It was a little expensive but ultimately he saved our car from some major repairs due to another person's careless mistake.
