UPDATE: Apparently when you order services through a Greek Squad membership, the contractors are NOT supposed to take any money from the customer directly, for added services, especially without informing Best Buy. These contractors have set up quite the racket, which if called out, is a breach of contract with Best Buy and results in Best Buy severing that relationship. I wish we had known any of this before shelling out hundreds of dollars to these guys at greatly inflated prices, in addition to the money paid to them by Best Buy, out of our membership. This last contractor submitted a completed order to Best Buy for performing a diagnostic without ever having seen the appliance. The last 3 contractors with whom we’ve interacted have attempted this scheme- billing us on the side, with few options once appliances are already removed or being billed for an in-person diagnostic repair that has never happened. Hope this helps someone avoid these price gouging jerks. They’re making a killing and Best Buy doesn’t have a good system in place to mitigate this. Took me 2 hours on the phone and getting hung up on once to finally speak with Eddie, who finally explained how this system is supposed to work and made an effort to make us whole and get these guys reported. From our 4 experiences, 75% of Best Buy’s third party contractors will attempt to get paid twice AND overcharge you because you’re over a barrel.
Original review:
We’ve had great experiences in the past with Geek Squad, but after these last two experiences with appliance servicing, we will be cancelling our membership. Last month we purchased an induction stovetop, were told installation was included with our membership, *but were informed that there might be an additional fee if the countertops had to be cut. We agreed. First Best Buy installer wanted to charge us $100 just to remove the oven, and he was verbally aggressive about how unprepared we were (we had hired an electrician to install a new outlet- we did everything on our end, including going through Best Buy checklist). After accusing us of not measuring (we did), he volunteered to leave the stovetop and cancel the job! Best Buy sent out another installer who eventually charged us nearly $400 to cut the countertop to fit the stovetop. We’ve had brand new bathroom countertops cut and installed for less. Took the guys less than 20 minutes. Fast forward to today, our washing machine needs a new valve. Best Buy quoted us $110 over the phone (plus cost of parts), with our geek squad membership for an appliance out of warranty. Best Buy contractor called us, diagnosed over the phone and quoted us $350. After research online, quotes from other repair services: less than $250; and that’s with in-person diagnostic, labor and parts. So Best Buy is a middleman, contracting out repairs to service repairmen who do not factor in any membership discounts whatsoever. These repair guys have no accountability themselves- you cannot research them individually online- and they basically charge you whatever they want. There is zero point in a yearly membership. As I said, we have had excellent service in the past but it’s clearly less expensive and easier to hire a repairman directly. There IS NO DISCOUNT with a membership and in addition to paying for that membership, customers get price gouged by repairman/installers who charge whatever they want because there is no competition. You’ve waited for that appointment and you think Best Buy is looking out for you. That’s added up to about a $500 mistake on our part this year.

Extremely dissatisfied, disappointed, disillusioned with Geek Squad. Admission of their fault in canceling an appointment and no possible way to rectify the situation on the same day....absolutely trash customer service. Duly noted.

They are ok! I’d much rather go to a mom/pop shop. Too much red tape for a small family issues!

This was a SCAM!!!!! The numbers from the internet for BestBuy/GeekSquad was a scam. I kept asking them for a quote but they kept saying don't worry. I got them off of my computer but they had already used my info fot Apple Inc.I called in fraud with my bank and alerted them. My saving grace was that Apple Inc called to confirm the charge and gave m back my money...whew!Thanks to Apple Inc!!!!

Chris Brown, Geek Squad Pearland (TX), did a great job installing a rear view mirror on my F250 camper truck that I purchased from Amazon. Multiple working parts (front and back cameras, GPS unit, and built in power supply) all installed correctly so everything works as expected. All the wires were nicely hidden in the cab and looking under the truck at the wiring job I was also impressed by the professional work: all the wires were shielded and well fastened. The cost of the install was also really a great deal considering the work involved. Highly recommended. A rear view mirror camera is a great add for any truck with obscured rear view!

I have generally received satisfactory service at this location. I did ask for the largest computer key board and was told that the one o bought was the biggest available! A month or so later I went with a friend who wanted something for his wife. At that time I found a larger keyboard under a counter! I think I got bad info.

They didn't tell me that they were shipping my computer all the way to Kentucky for repair, so I was without my work computer for weeks. I could have gotten it repaired on the spot locally. I have since cancelled my service contract with the Geek Squad.

so I had gone through geek squad to repair the screen of my Surface pro. Not only did they tear off the stickers, they also did not return the keyboard that attached to it. On top of all that, they didn’t even fix the screen saying it was “too old” when I’m fairly certain it wasn’t even five years old . Overall unpleasant experience and will not be using their services anymore.
