I have two sons here, a 4 and 5 yo. My 5yo is a leukemia patient in remission. The staff works with our health plan with his after school participation here. My 4yo is transferred to and from for speech classes, both are at Dartmouth. Love the staff here. Nothing but positive experiences.

PLEASE READ BEFORE TAKING YOUR CHILD HERE - Day 1 my son came home with a giant knot on his head that lasted over 1 month and the school never figured out how it happened. My daughter developed a bleeding rash and for several days came home with rocks in her nose to the point where I had to take her to the doctor to make sure she didn't have any in her sinus cavity. Literally rocks would fall out of her nose randomly. AND THE WORST OF ALL - one day my coworker was on a run along the trail next to the daycare and he noticed my 1 year old daughter outside COMPLETELY ALONE. He waited until someone came out to get her. He ran back to the office and told me. I was there in minutes and confronted the assistant director. We looked through footage. Conveniently it didnt cover the piece of slab she was on so I had her show me the room footage and sure enough the care giver walked out with several kids and came back in without my daughter. THIRTEEN MINUTES LATER in the July heat she remembers and goes to get her. She doesn't report the incident!!!! She also didnt give her water nor wash her hands after being outside. I reported them to licensing but they were not found negligent. Crazy huh? Well the investigator never questioned me nor the key witness. She only questioned the daycare who had already recorded over the footage. Not to mention the girl that forgot my daughter outside and didnt report nor treat my daughter was NOT FIRED!!! IN THOSE 13 MIN MY DAUGHTER COULD HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED AND WORSE. They did not have standard daycare policies in place. Please research before choosing a daycare. There is a public state website that shows each daycares infractions. We went up the road to a cheaper daycare that is in wonderful condition and offers curriculum.

Had my Kiddos were here for a little bit, one was 4.5 and the other one was a little over one when they first started. My 4.5 year old was pulled out when she started kinder, and I pulled my one year old that is now 2.5 out recently. The Village school was a great place for my kids to learn socially, and for my youngest to learn potty training. The teachers/women here don't judge you, they know you are a mom/dad and are busy with day in and day out things. I loved most of the staff/teachers, everyone was so approachable, and once they got to know you the relationships with the teachers became very laid back and they were always so friendly. I'd say this is one of my favorite parts of this school. I experienced Melissa (No longer there), Q (sometimes in the baby room, and the 2 year old's), Sharron (3-4 year old's), and Leslie (Pre-k room), Tajia (sp?) (baby room), Pat (baby room), Susie (front desk and everything else), Drea (2 year old's), and Heather (the director). Everyone is so willing to help, and accommodate your needs. The only reason I didn't give village school 5 stars was because like I said its more for social interaction, my kids didn't "learn" a whole lot, like colors, shapes, numbers, the alphabet, or how to write (This would be for my 4.5 year old.) I'm not saying they don't teach it, i'm just saying my kiddos weren't learning it. Over all I would recommend Village school if you are wanting your kids to socialize, learn manner, and interact with kids.

If I could give them no stars I would. They pick & chose their favorite children/families they accommodate and don't treat all fairly. They are quite often poorly staffed, over ratio, especially during the summer. The building is dilapidated in poor condition. The rear of it is falling apart foundation is off doors don't open & close properly, rains in back class. Carpet has been placed to cover foundation cracks in the floor. The fencing is too low & broken in places often 1 person to supervise well over 20 children inclusive of some with special needs. They make them go out on extremely hot/bad ozone days There aren't safeguards the children who have food allergies either often knowingly feeding peanut butter crackers to others in the presence of those they know are severely allergic. Director doesn't have Early Childhood Ed. degree or accreditation she is director only because she is owners daughter. If your desperate but if you can find any other option...

My son has been at this school for about a year and half in the 3 and 4 year old classes. We have been so happy with our time at this school. When I was looking for a neighborhood daycare for my son, I looked at several schools in various price ranges around the area. Although the facility itself is older and maybe a bit shabby, I was quickly able to look past it as I watched the children and how they carry themselves within the school. The children are smiling and confident. They are orderly (or as orderly as you would want a group of happy pre-schoolers to be) and respectful. The children were not afraid to talk to me or to any of the adults working at the school.Several other day cares that I looked at had a chaotic feeling which I have never witnessed at The Village School. I attribute that to the experienced teachers, especially in the 3 and 4 year old rooms. The kids have a clear understanding of the rules and expectations but always seem to be having fun without a fear of expressing themselves. They offer several "extracurricular" optional activities like gymnastics, TOT basketball and swimming lessons to help break up the week for children who are interested. They provide lunch and snacks which my picky eater actually enjoys.Although, this is more of a daycare than a pre-school, I am confident that my son will be fully prepared for kindergarten both academically and emotionally. His teacher is aware of what children need to know (dressing themselves, letters and numbers and most importantly how to treat others both children and adults). If you want state of the art technology and facilities, this is probably not the place for you. If you are looking for a loving, experienced and happy environment full of smiling and confident children, this place is worth a look.

My son has been coming to this daycare since he was of the minimum age (I think it's something like 6mo? Not sure, feels like forever ago). The staff at times could be a bit abrasive, but it's because they care for the children. As a teen father, I was shocked that I was treated like an adult since most everyone else still treats you like a child even though you have a child. The director is nice and accommodating, you just have to take the time to sit down and talk with her and what your needs as a parent and customer are. They do their best to work with you on everything. They even have loaner clothes that they let you hang onto if your child tears through the clothes you've brought in for them (either through rough play, dirtying them by BM/peeing, etc..).As a parent, whenever I saw an incident report for my child my heart would sink. I understand the reason why they don't blow it up into a big deal, my son has been bit several times while here but I can't really blame the school for that; there is a point at which you can't see everything that's going on. Additionally, I'm not sure if they talk to the parent's of the biter but my son got bite 4 times within 2 weeks and hasn't again to date. Any other accidents your child has, scraping knees, hitting their head or anything else under the sun is handled on the spot. They have policies in place to call you if it's super important otherwise they'll tell you about it when you come in.This group is very tight knit, like one of the other reviews said; I disagree with the "right or wrong" portion however. They are concerned not only about your child but about your well being. They have a late policy of insane charging per minute you're late (after closing time). Yesterday I was 16 minutes late, I had been told by my son's grandma that he was going to be picked up (low and behold it didn't happen). One of the staff called me and I came as fast as I could, they didn't charge me because they knew that it was something I was unable to help and that I definitely would've struggled with the charge. I don't think I'll get lucky a second time but they definitely showed me that they care about the children and parents.TL;DR The Village School is fantastic been here for 2 years and they will continue to have me for as long as I'm in the Richardson area.
