I recently had to stay at the shelter for a couple of weeks due to some personal financial issues. I am very grateful for the time they gave me and food they provided every evening. I only have one issue with that place that they will not address or respond to my emails . While I was there I had to meet with a case manager/counselor every week and keep him up to date on my situation. He gave me an extension to stay there week to week ( which I was grateful for) and he would encourage me to keep putting applications for work and show him proof of it. Seems fair enough. I received a call from my aunt's husband to go work with him at his ranch in Miles, TX just for one day. I needed the cash so I took it. I notified the shelter in advance that I was going to take this job but I had to leave the evening before and stay the night at the ranch so we could start early in the morning. I told them I could provide any kind of proof that they wanted including talking with the gentleman and the counselor said I would be suspended from the shelter if I stayed anywhere else once I had an extension. They said that working for family didn't count as a real job! I've never heard of such a thing! A job is a job regardless of who it's for. I needed the money because I had been broke for two weeks so I took it but now I'm having to sleep in the park because the shelter suspended me. Can anyone explain the logic behind that? They won't reply to my emails so maybe someone can help me to understand that?
