I have been a client for almost ten years. Dr Powell took excellent care of my Mini Schnauzers from 2014-2017, and continues to provide care for my Havanese. Drs Powell and Horstmann, the vet techs, nurses, and admin staff are wonderful. I always recommend Acorn Hill to anyone looking for veterinary care for their pets. They are the very best!

I just want to say how much my pet family of 8 loved seeing Dr Powell and Dr H. They went above and beyond to accommodate us when one of our pets were sick or behaving badly. I will miss them immensely . Acorn Hill has big shoes to fill.

This morning we lost our 16yr 11mo old Schnauzer-Yorkie "Chloe" to Pancreatitis. We rushed her to Acorn Hill upon family recommendation. The staff was so kind and attentive. In the Triage ER there were at least 6 staff members attending to her to make sure she was comfortable in her final hour. The Vet and Assistant took us to a quiet room where we could say our final good-byes. Thank you so much for making sure all of us were comforted! RIP Chloe12/6/2006-11/6/2023

All of the staff are exceptional! The technicians handle my animals with so much love and care, and the doctors here are the absolute best! I never feel pressured to purchase anything my little ones don’t need, and always feel that they truly have my little guys best interests at heart. The front desk staff make me feel as if I’m seeing family every time I walk through the door. I cannot say enough great things about Acorn Hill.

The team at this animal clinic is truly the best. Dr Powell and the staff are always so pleasant and helpful. Like a lot of businesses, there have been some staffing issues lately, but they always have a professional and welcoming attitude! You do feel like family having your best friend in their care here. Thank you!

This place has changed so much. Used to be a great place to take my pets. Amanda and Dr. Powell are great but lately they are so short staffed I have no idea who has seen my dog but it’s def not Dr.Powell. Amanda phoned me yesterday and asked if I could medicate my dog because he’s overly anxious. I never medicated him before and he was fine. Anyhow I thought I had the medication at home and I had one but not the other. I called first thing in the a.m. as his appointment was at 11:40 and I told Amanda I have him one but the other I was out of. I asked would you like me to reschedule and was told just bring him in and we will see what happens. I did as I was told. I just received a nasty call from Lucas who said he was the head tech. He was very nasty and condescending. Telling me if my dogs not medicated we can’t see him and why didn’t I pick up his medicine day before? Seriously! First of all they call me a day before and tell me to medicate him and I’m at work. I would’ve never made it there. Dr. Powell should be calling patients because Lucas has no manners! Very rude. If your going to call people you should communicate with front desk and ask situation instead of not knowing anything. I’d rather find a new place to go. Their prices are going up and their care for animals is going down.

I am only giving this place 2 stars because the first visit was good and the tech was great. My visit today not so much. I specifically told them I only wanted an ear packing and a shampoo. I didn't want an exam because nothing has changed. They went ahead and did the exam anyway and as I stated nothing has changed. I don't know what all the exam consists of but if it was just what I had to help them hold my dog down to do it does not justify 60 dollars.

We have been going to Acorn Hill Animal Hospital for just about a year now, and we have had a wonderful experience. This last visit was the first time our pup was seen by Dr. Powell, and Dr. Powell did a very thorough annual exam. I also would like to recognize the front desk staff as well. They have always been very welcoming and attentive. My husband and I are extremely satisfied with the care and service we have received and highly recommend this clinic!

My pup and I saw Dr. Powell for the first time and found him to be very nice. He was through and gave great advice. I will miss Dr. Bret Fritz. All of my kids saw him. I'm happy to say I was very impressed with Dr. Powell and hope all my kids see him from now on. Shout out to Heidi, she's the best, and everyone at the front desk. My little boy has a crush on one of the vet techs. My late other little boy had a crush on the same vet tech. So funny and cute.

I have been looking forever for a new place to take my fur babies, because I had such a horrible experience with the previous place, so this time I've been really looking at everything and the reviews before making a final decision. This places had amazing reviews, and also the location was perfect, and so I went with my gut and made an appointment. Nothing was wrong with my cat thus I could wait for the next opening they had. And I'm so glad I did. The location is very convenient for me since my cat hates long car rides, and it's so close to home that he doesn't get too stressed out. The staff was very helpful, super friendly and they took my concerns in mind. I was blown away with everything, the experience was amazing. I will definitely be going back there for my second fur baby.

My dogs are not easy when it come to vet visits. They are anxious, squirmy and STUBBORN. The staff at Acorn Hill were so kind and patient with our boys. They really took their time examining both dogs. Grateful and thankful we made a switch to this place.

I had brought my dogs to this clinic for many years and the care provided by Dr. Powell was amazing (I had followed him from a previous location). He would always explain the risks and benefits for any procedure/treatment to allow me to make an informed decision. As the clinic grew, the costs increased, but I stayed because of the excellent care. However, several months ago my senior dog had to be put down. I had come home one night to find her unable to stand and took her to an emergency clinic. They stabilized her and I brought her home, not knowing how much longer we would have with her. The following day I realized she really was in pain and that I would likely have to put her down, but I wanted to talk to the vet first. I called on a Friday, explained what happened and asked if I could talk to Dr. Powell and the receptionist said he was not at work that day and the first possible appointment with him was not until the following Thursday. I said that my dog was not going to make it that long, and they responded with the first available appointment was not until Tuesday. I again said that my dog would not make it that long and their response was that they were sorry they couldn't help me. I do not know if this is standard practice at all clinics, but I was shocked. While I have always had pleasant interactions with all of the staff at the clinic, this particular treatment was heartbreaking. I am currently looking for a new clinic for my other senior dog, and new puppy, but hope that this review serves as a way for the clinic to improve it's standards and compassion towards patients.

Dr. Powell saw our cat at this appt. and he was great! But we usually see Dr. Amber Fritz (and have also taken our cat to her husband once as well) and she is exceptional as well! The front desk staff and the vet techs are always very friendly and extremely helpful! I would never go to another vet’s office for any reason ever again! 10/10 stars every single time we bring our cats in, whether it’s for a routine exam and vaccines, or for emergency surgery (which we’ve had to do twice…). And we have personally recommended Acorn Hill Animal Hospital to friends and family, and we even keep business cards in our wallets to give to anyone with pets who is looking for a vet! Thank y’all! ?

This place is wonderful, I can’t recommend it enough. Our 8 year old dog had a complicated cancer growing in his mouth that was going to require very expensive surgery at a specialty clinic here in San Antonio. I contacted Acorn Hill and Clint and his staff went way above and beyond any expectations. They coordinated the plan for his surgery and were still able to provide the same procedure at a significantly lower cost. Not only that, but all the scheduling, counseling, drop off, pick up, and aftercare were easy. The staff here are all wonderful and made it much easier for us than so many other vets we have dealt with. We are very grateful for everyone at Acorn Hill and highly recommend them!

I transferred to Acorn Hill after my (now previous) veterinarian not only lied to me, but also allowed my beloved cat to die instead of treating him. I saw the same pattern in my present cat and after being dissatisfied with their treatment, I changed to Acorn Hill. They are treating me AND my cat as thoughwe are their only patients and I have observed them treating all other clients the same way! Professional, kind, patient, understanding, quality care and a love for people and animals ❤. There aren't enough words to express my profound admiration for the staff.Maggie HeardAKA Jack's mom
