Service itself was great but then I called them and told them it didn’t turn out how I originally wanted just need the foils to sit longer. I called them to tell them that and they told me I would hear from them in a few days. A week went by and I still hadn’t heard anything so I called again. Was told the manager would call me in a few days to discuss further to get me in for another appointment. It’s been another week and STILL NOTHING. They don’t care about making things right they have consistently ghosted me multiple times. Will never be going here again awful customer service.

Aveda institute San Antonio accidentally scheduled me twice. It was going to be my first time as a client. I called to inform them of the accidental double booking and inquired during my call who would be providing me service for the confirmed appointment, but I was told they aren’t allowed to divulge that information unless I made a specific request. I then cancelled my appointment because I didn’t feel comfortable being told, unless I requested a specific name, then they couldn’t divulge the who I was going to entrust to do my hair. Just thought it was important to share. The person who I spoke to earlier in the day, before 5pm, was very pleasant and I was actually looking forward to my first hair appointment with Aveda. I was sad to cancel as I’m a new kinship foster parent with 2 lovely girls under 2 years old and this was going to be a planned hair appointment where my husband was offering to watch the girls while I had a little belated bday celebration for myself.

All things considered you pay for what you get. This place is cheap and for good reason, I went in looking for something lighter and left 5 hours later and out of my own money with hair that was darker and the opposite of what I wanted. Understanding this is a school, students shouldn't be expected to perform something that is clearly beyond their skill level.

Lisa for making appointments it's THE WORSE.
Absolutely horrendous customer service, if she does not like to answer phone calls and schedule appointments, that's her job and she is paid for that.
Quit and let someone else do it

This is my honest and fair review considering this is a school and these are students.
Pros: affordable, many services to get, nice reception.
Cons: these students are very green.
The teachers only come by for three checkpoints. The stylist haven’t began to master holding a conversation during the service or asking more questions.
If you are getting a color service, make sure your expectations are right… my hair came out nothing like the inspiration.
If you are looking for something simple, come here. They do the job you are paying for. I didn’t expect them to be so green, but again, you get what you pay for. You are literally a check box for them and the teacher

I've always had a great experience at Aveda! The salon has such a relaxing atmosphere, and the staff are consistently friendly and professional. I've been coming here for a while now and have always loved the way my hair turns out—especially the cut. This last time, I had my hair cut with highlights - it turned out FABULOUS!! They really listen to what you want and offer helpful suggestions without being pushy. Highly recommend for anyone looking for high-quality hair care and a little pampering!

Since they took my girlfriends review down— dont go to school here its traumatizing and horrendous. Harrassment at its worst and the educators are terrible.

Everyone was so nice and I even got to do my appointment earlier than scheduled. My stylist, Sophia, was the sweetest person ever and she did an amazing job on my hair. I’m not usually a talkative person, but she was so fun to talk to and made sure to ask for my opinion and preference every step of the way. I absolutely loved the great service and vibe and I will definitely be coming back for a cut and dye next time.

I’m a very serious student trying to inquire about joining the esthetic program. I just had some questions and was met with abrupt responses and was shut down. It was very unprofessional. The woman on the line was very impatient.
It was not delivering spa tone and was giving bartender, line cook, collections agent.
She was defiantly working in the wrong field. There’s a standard you have to meet when working in a spa and being that example is everything.
It’s a shame because I heard aveda had amazing skincare products. Oh well.
**Update:**
I received a phone call from Victoria, the Admissions Manager at the campus, who clarified that the person I had previously spoken with was from the call center, not the Aveda school itself. She sincerely apologized on their behalf and mentioned that they had even reviewed the phone call to assess the issue. I appreciated their diligence in addressing the situation and was pleased that they recognized the concern. Additionally, I was invited to tour the campus, which I found to be a thoughtful gesture.
I truly appreciate how professionally the matter was handled. Victoria was incredibly classy and respectful, demonstrating a deep understanding of both the students and the spa environment.

I attended the Aveda Institute as an Esthetician student from May 2024 to December 2024, and I can confidently say that it was not worth my investment. My experience was filled with significant issues, from roaches in the spa beds to mold on the walls.
The instructors often treated students as competition, which hindered our learning opportunities. Monica, the director, appeared to lack the necessary leadership skills to address these problems effectively.
I had numerous unprofessional encounters, particularly with instructors Rocio and Anthony. Rocio was especially rude during my mother's visit for a service. When my mother emailed Monica about her experience, she received a generic response with a free facial certificate attached, but no personal apology or accountability from Rocio herself.
The final straw for me was when my tax form was incorrect—not just once, but twice. When I reached out to Monica about the second mistake, her response was snappy and unprofessional. It's incredibly frustrating to deal with errors on a government document, especially when it requires constant back-and-forth communication to resolve. The first form inaccurately swapped my loans with my out-of-pocket payments, which felt shady. The second “corrected” tax form stated I received no student loans, despite Monica previously providing me with a receipt for those loans. Monica has yet to correct this error.
Overall, my experience at the Aveda Institute has been marked by unprofessionalism. I strongly advise anyone considering this program to take their money elsewhere. The tours are misleading, and the staff seems more focused on profit than on student success. If you ask current students about their experiences, you’ll likely see the disappointment in their eyes. Aveda Institute of San Antonio feels like a money-hungry, soul-sucking environment that is best avoided.

Visited aveda yesterday and had an awful experience, I very vividly expressed to my stylist Katherine who is supposed to graduate in less than 5 months btw, that I did NOT want short hair I told her no more than an inch off the ends and LONG face framing I even mapped it out showing her exactly what’s to short.. and she cut that exact spot.. it was choppy and extremely uneven. The worst part was the PRIOR to cutting her educator APPROVED such short framing on hair passing my lower back.. the “long” face framing was chopped bluntly near my lips. The rest of my head was all one extremely long length and she bluntly cut nearly the middle of my face the entire front chunk of my hair! When a different educator returned to check her work she even expressed how incorrect it all was and suggested I either get curtain bangs or lose the entirety of my length to “blend” it. Absolutely horrible guidance, stylist attempted to blend and made it WORSE make it an uneven choppy mess in the front and a straight cut in the back. I had to pay 80 dollars to get it fixed and professionals were shocked by how awful it looked and tried their best.. the professional salon discounted my services because they felt so bad. I left aveda in tears. I expressed how much I hate getting my hair done because hair dresses think no matter what I want short hair at least somewhere EVEN IF I SAY HOW MUCH I REALLY DONT. As a soon to graduate she still needs so much work and the educators are clearly on a completely different page and lack proper guidance skills. I’m so disappointed I’ve never felt so ugly. I 100% do not recommend this institution for their teaching methods and their stylists skills. She made me hate the way my hair looks😕

My teen son has had his hair permed here three times now, and every experience has been great! Highly recommend!
