My mom had passed away and we were trying to sell her Dodge Journey that had been sitting for more than a year. My mom name was still on the title and I was told when I called this place that would not be a problem. I make an appointment and drag my father who is in his 80s, on oxygen and also in a wheelchair. I have a rough estimate on how much they are willing to give me for her car. We roll in and after the inspection the guy starts picking apart the car. Thanks Detective Columbo I know the car has a few minor flaws, but no need to berate me with them. It has low millage, clean and has been repaired. Not to mention, you are offering LESS than the LOW value of the Kelly Blue Book. We were told to go to financing and was told because my mom was on the title they would not be able to handle it, even though my dad had a power of attorney. We were told to get her name taken off and come back. We were also told that since the car was not going to be driven, there should be zero problems with the value they originally gave us. I asked them "You know we are talking about the State right? They do not move quickly." Fast forward to a few weeks later when we got the title corrected. I was told that it should be smooth, pull up, they should honor the original offer and we would be golden. That was a lie. According to the salesman, his manager offered us almost $800 less than originally offered and we had the offer letter in hand. Of course, that offer had "expired" as they date them very short. I had explained the car had not even moved. We were waiting for the title, not to mention they were offering less than Kelly Blue Book and the Nada pricing guide. Cars do not change value that much just in a few weeks time period. I can understand if it was months later. The dealership gave us their word it would be a seamless, easy process. They wasted our time not only once, but twice and then lied to our faces that it should be a simple process coming back and CarMax honoring the original offer.
We did go to one of CarMax's competitors and they offered way more than CarMax did, which proves that it was not just the market, they were trying to shaft us on the price. If you are considering selling your car to this place, get a few quotes from other dealerships, you will be surprised just how much CarMax is lowballing you.

Staff was very friendly, was in and out in 30 minutes with an offer to buy my car . Waited a few days went back took offer and once again about 30 minutes later deal was done had my bank draft in hand and was down the road to my bank . Thx car max

Leslie Dawkins is AWESOME! We have bought 4 vehicles now from CarMax and traded back in with CarMax. They have been AMAZING each time and super quick! Even my wife has said we will not buy a car from anyone else. CarMax is our forever home automobile provider!!!!

After receiving an online offer I took my lease vehicle to the Live Oak (San Antonio), TX office for in person appraisal. Jun helped me. They were busy but the whole thing took only a few hours. They were professional, friendly and transparent with my options. I never felt pressured at any point. The appraisal matched the offer and I decided to accept. I walked out with a check for the residual value that same day. Yesterday I checked with the leasing company and they confirmed receipt of the payoff and that all the paperwork was in order. I feel very comfortable recommending Carmax to anyone looking to sell a vehicle. I was not ready to get a new vehicle yet, but I will return to Carmax to see what is available when the time comes.

I can’t speak to the purchasing side but can to the selling side. Simple and easy process with fair price paid. You can get more if you want to kiss the frogs to find a prince and sell yourself. I think more importantly the employees are happy and positive so that says a lot. An added bonus if a free Lyft within 50 miles at least from this one.

Always pleasurably, I purchased our 4th vehicle from carmax, rates are higher than should be but, I always sell my vehicle to my bank. I went to Toyota next door and just was disgusted w/their tactics of shoving A sell down your throat. 4 hours of my life I wont get back but, lesson learned. Car lots are the worst its not about what you want its about the salesman and its simply disgusting. Carmax is the way to go.

Leslie was able to get us into a wonderful VW Tiguan for our family and we could not be happier! She was patient with us and definitely made the experience a smooth one! This is our 2nd car with CarMax and they have a customer for life!
