I had a very disappointing experience renting with Hertz due to the behavior of one staff member, Alan (Australian accent). His attitude was rude and unprofessional from the start. The way he spoke to us was disrespectful, and he repeatedly tried to sell us add-ons and services we clearly said we did not need,
This is not the level of customer service I expect from a company like Hertz.
I hope management addresses this, as it reflects poorly on the brand.

2 hour wait. Only 2 people at the counter. Hertz is notorious for this

This was my first and last time renting from this Hertz. The experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating from start to finish.
I reserved and paid for a midsize car, but when I arrived I was given a very small compact car. The staff insisted this vehicle was considered a midsize and said that was all they had available for that category. However, after looking up the vehicle myself, it is clearly classified as a compact car, and a very small one at that. This felt misleading and unacceptable, especially since I paid for a midsize vehicle.
When I went upstairs to pick up the car, the first vehicle had a sour smell in the front passenger seat. I had to return and request a different car. The only other option they offered was an even smaller compact vehicle, leaving me no real choice if I wanted to continue my trip.
The pricing was also frustrating. I later discovered the day-of rate for the same rental timeframe was nearly half of what I paid in advance, which made the situation even more disappointing.
Customer service throughout the process was cold and unhelpful.
To make matters worse, I arrived early at the airport and was unable to pick up the car because I only had a temporary ID. Even though my physical driver’s license had already been issued and delivered to my home, it was not accepted. Since I had just flown home and was only there for a few days, I had to pay for an Uber to go home and retrieve it and another Uber back to the airport just to pick up the rental.
When I returned later with my physical license, the employee’s attitude was very much “this is what we have, take it or leave it.” She seemed bothered by my questions and made no effort to help or accommodate me. I had tried calling the location multiple times earlier to make sure my reservation wouldn’t be canceled since I would be arriving after my rental reservation time due to me having to leave and return later, but no one answered. When I asked if I had the correct number and explained that I’d called several times, she ignored the question entirely each time I asked and brought it up.
Overall, this was a terrible rental experience. I will not be renting from Hertz again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Here's the thing Stephanie. If you're gonna try to upsell people on the usual garbage they already know they don't need, you might want to start with at least a fake smile and a greeting.
But I guess that hurts your mind to even pretend to be a decent person 😂

Only one person was working, the checkout counter And he was doing checkouts for three different rental companies. So it took 45 minutes for two people to get our cars checked out Tried to call the customer service line multiple times Sent to voicemail and no one returned the calls So had to drive back to the airport To try to remedy a problem. Wanted to add a driver for the last day of the rental. And the only way I can do that was get charged for every day of the rental Even though the second driver never drove the first few days. Couldn’t get out of the parking garage, where the cars were stored because there was no staffing and the person showed up 30 minutes Late after they were supposed to open

Great experience checking in online, additionally gathering our gear and packing up and we were on our way.

Not understand some the rental fees (CONCESSION FEE RECOVERY and CUST FAC CHR). You get a chat box experience when trying to reach an agent is terrible. Asked for call back to talk to live person yesterday 1/2/26 around 1600 still no call back and it now 1/3/26. Hertz is not the same company it use to be. Extremely disappointing.

They gave us a rear facing car seat without the base to attach the seat to the car. The second, and last available, seat provided was missing a strap to safely attach the child to the seat forcing us to go buy a new seat. Also causing the inconvenience, and added expense, of now having to baggage check a car seat we do not need at home and causing us to be out $200+!!!!
Update: contacted the manager of Hertz at the San Antonio Airport and he basically told me they would do nothing more that take the car seat charge off the bill and it was not their problem that we had to purchase a seat even though I had rented and prepaid for a seat from them, if they were out of appropriate seats then they were out and it was our problem to deal with.
If I could give them ZERO star I would!!!
I DO NOT recommend EVER using Hertz!!!

Don’t believe them when they say you can “skip the line” when checking in online. That’s completely wrong and completely fraudulent. I did all that and still waited in line for over an hour to complete the “paperwork” and get my car.

Be prepared to wait multiple hours and not get helped even a little bit. I booked for 10:30am and got there they said sorry it's 10pm can't help and you will get charged. They guys said you can cancel but it's actually even more money that you pay. Just truly horrible I hope turo puts you all the way out of business I'm going to short sell your crap company.

Worst Hertz experience ever! I was told upon arrival they didn’t have my Large Capacity SUV at the moment and asked me to return the next day; in the meantime they gave me a Hyundai Santa Fe… BIG DIFFERENCE!
So next day I return and they tell me my SUV will be ready within an hour, but then, they tell me they had to give it to a Platinum Member (I’m Gold) instead! I asked for the manager, they told me he was busy and would be for long, but that I was free to take the Santa Fe.
It is the first time I’ve had a problem with Hertz in more than 20 years! TERRIBLE Customer Service!!! L4002117402

I reserved my car and checked in online. I went to the parking spot to pick up my car, but the dash started that it needed an oil change and had a low tire. It was definitely not ready to be rented to a customer.
I reported it to the rental clerk and she was great in processing a replacement vehicle.

I checked out using Hertz Gold and Presidential Circle. It was such an easy process — it felt like I was partaking in Grand Theft Auto. Have your ID ready as you drive out.
