I arrived in San Antonio, Texas Monday, January 15th. My flight was late, but I was told that plenty of cars were available due to very cold weather. I drove the Honda CR-V for for two days, but then all of the warning lights in the car went off repeatedly. I was afraid to drive it for this reason. I returned it to the airport. I had been told that if I wanted to exchange cars not to drive in to the return area across the parking lot spikes. Instead, I was instructed to park the car outside the exit booth. I drove all around the 5th floor of the San Antonio car return lot twice but was unable to locate this booth.I parked the car and walked in the cold to try to find the Passport booth in the parking lot. I explained the problem with the Honda and requested either a Japanese or Korean SUV.I am certain that plenty of them were available but all they would give me was a Ford Edge which was a basic, unpleasant car to drive. I was unable to relocate the Honda even after much walking. Fortunately, passport employee helped me find it.This whole experience was very frustrating! First, to be given a defective car that had been in service since 2019, I believe, and then not to be given a Japanese or Korean vehicle as I requested. I wasted time, energy, and maybe health (I developed a chest cold that evening) because of this experience. You need to do a better job of routinely servicing your cars, and you need to have a more customer friendly policy about supplying them with cars they reserve and request. I will certainly remember this experience the next time I have occasion to rent a car.

Easy process price was great & staff was very friendly. I received the exact make and model car I was given online un like other car rental places where they don’t give you what they tell you you’re going to get online. I was very pleased with everything!

The checkout process was way too long.The vehicle I rented was dirty and had trash inside the cab. There was fastfood trash and empty Gatorade bottles. Also, the was viewable damage on the vehicle rear quarter panel upon vehicle pick up.It was a pain trying to leave because there was no attendant in the booth to allow me to exit so I had to wait several minutes

My experience with renting from Payless was by far the worst car rental experience I have ever had. I will NEVER be their customer again. I'd probably rather walk or take an uber. They're not truthful. They tried to tell me at the airport I'd have to take an electric car when I didn't reserve an EV. When they finally agreed to put me in a gas car they increased my reservation price by $200. for a car just like what I originally reserved. This vehicle had no high beams. There was a more than an hour wait at the airport when all other rental agencies had no wait. I would say that anybody who would rent from these dishonest clowns is crazy. I'd give them zero stars if it were an option.

On 9/17/2023 we reserved a Full size car for our trip to San Antonio TX arriving 10/12/2023We arrived on time to head to the car rental counter to wait in line for 50 minutes. At this time we were told the only cars left were electric and this was our only choice. I explained that we were going into rural Texas and there are no charging stations near. The customer service rep I was working with kept handing me a sheet with info on charging stations and he repeatedly stated this was our only choice. I then ask to speak with a manger and he stated he was the manager. I then ask for his name and a card, he said his name was Al & he was the operations manager and had no card. He then said I could get a gas car for 20 dollars more per day. I then pulled my phone out and tried to take his picture, he blocked his face with his hand and ask me to leave. Al was extremally rude and harsh the entire time of our contact.Meanwhile my wife found a manager, Michael, Michael stated he would take care of the extra charge. Then Al handed me a paper with a lane number on it for my gas car. We walked to the car, it was electric, back to the counter I went. Now we've been trying to get a car for over 2hrs. I spoke to Michael and he sent me back to the car pickup area.Now we meet Kate, What a pleasant change, Kate is wonderful!!! She found us a car and made sure we were taken care of. She also checked us out at return. Thank you Kate.Payless needs more people like Kate, not like Al.After this experience with Payless I will not do business with them again nor recommend them to anyone.

First of, I waited in line about 45 minutes before being attended by a client attendant.Second of all, I had originally requested a Toyota Camry car which I found already to be very expensive at the rate of $772.48 for three days. I got switched over to an Electric Vehicle (A Tesla 3Y), which I thought was simply an upgrade for waiting in line for so long or because they did not have any other vehicles available at the moment. Nothing of the sort. The lady who attended me, swiftly got me into this new deal which I signed into, after waiting for so long and never thought that it was at an added price of $449.15 for a total of $1,010.55. She simply told me, this is the car I got for you today, without being specific about the added cost. An electric vehicle was far from being my first choice as it was the first time I was driving one and headed to a destination which was 2 hres away from the San Antonio Airport, at 7:00 PM at night.Third of all. The vehicle was dirty and charged to only 55%. When I got into the car, it was getting late and I was not going to repeat the experience of waiting an additional 30 minutes to switch for another car.All in all, I believe that I was tricked into renting a much pricier vehicle and only when I returned the car and received the receipt over the e-mail, was I stunned by this hefty and expensive surprise: Over $1,000 for just three days !!!

Terrible experience. My flight landed at midnight and they did not have the car (or a similar car) as the one I reserved two weeks before my trip. They told me they had to upgrade the car at an additional cost to me. I asked for the manager and the manager said “we don’t have the car you reserved, so we can only put you in an upgrade.” I explained that was fine, but I shouldn’t be expected to pay for their mistake. She just kind of shrugged her shoulders and said that is how it is. Already past midnight after a long flight, and realizing I was dealing with idiots, I took the upgrade and left. When I had time, I called customer service and got the up charge reimbursed, but only after arguing with them on the phone.This was the first and last time I will use Payless rentals.

Payless counter had great service, professional with excellent attitude from the Avis attendant. Pick up does take an excessive amount of time. 3 companies with two desks causes significant delays which become very tedious for long distance frequent travelers.

San Antonio Airport location. The car I reserved was not available to me at the designated pick-up time. I was offered an electric car instead. This would pose a significant hardship on me to have to locate and charge an electric car and it is not what I reserved. Therefore, my only options were to not have a car or pay an upgrade fee for the only other vehicle available to me. I chose the upgrade fee because I needed to have a vehicle. Due to your businesses lack of consideration for the customer and their needs I will not utilize the service of any rental car service under your umbrella to include AVIS.

I cannot image any reason on this earth that would force me under extreme duress to use Payless, Budget or Avis ever again. The car I was provided in lieu of what I had reserved had severe steering and suspension problems and was unsafe to drive at the posted speed limits. Lifetime ban for any future rental car requirements for my personal or work related requirements.

Rented a vehicle through Payless at San Antonio Airport. After waiting 2 hours they initially brought me a 4 passenger car when my prepaid reservation was for 7 passenger vehicle. They were out of these, however they did have one that was just returned Denali if i wanted. Seeing no choice i took this vehicle with 1/4 tank of gas. Specifically told just return with the same amount. I returned with 1/2 tank and they still charged me 147.00 extra. I have gone through the customer services back and forth for over a month and they refuse to give me my money because they are not satisfied with my receipts. Why do I have to provide receipts for the inadequate process. So basically this is what they do, a person returns a vehicle with 1/4 tank, they charge this person 10.00 a gallon to fill it up. But they don't fill it up, instead it is passed on to the next renter and process is the same. This is a SCAM and there should be laws against a company double charging for the same gas. The paper work i signed clearly said to return vehicle with the same amount of fuel as when i picked up. I'm so nice i went ahead and returned with a 1/2 tank gas. Lesson learned is Payless Rental Company are crooks and be nice gets you nowhere. Stay clear away from this company. They are CROOKS.

The service at the time of pick-up was okay, the guy was very friendly. The car is a different story, they gave me a bigger car which is okay considering the downgrade that I will be expending more in gas than I was expecting. The car had a tire very low in the air. The paper they gave me at the counter said that the tank was full and wasn’t the tank just half also the odometer reading at the time according to the paper was over 8000 miles wrong, mistake? I do not know. I hope that they do not try to charge me extra for their mistakes. Under that condition, I do not recommend using this rental to anyone.

Had the worst experience with them and I will never use them again. I rented a car in Kansas City and as I returned it I requested a receipt because it is needed for pymt at work and we only have 5days from return to submit all receipts with open travel voucher. The rep said they could not give me a receipt that I had to go to the customer service desk to get a print out. I did and no one was to be found at their desk. This was at 0730. I went back at 0800 and still no one available. I went back one more time before I had to go back in to the airport check (very annoying to go in out)no one there. I made it back to home state and call their 1800 number to request my receipt. I called three times and they kept hanging up on me. It’s now 3 days past my return and I called again. One rep said they could not send me a receipt that I had to wait for my car rental to be closed out and that it takes about 5-7 business days. WTH!! I then got hung up on. I called back again and the next person I spoke with said I had to call back Monday . I still have not received my receipt. I was told it would be emailed in 48 hours from day of return. It’s now 3 days. I travel a lot due to my employment. I have to submit vouchers constantly. This will cause me a lot of issues because I have to travel again in 5days. ALL I WANT IS A DARN RECEIPT!!!

I rented a car online through Priceline. We had a funeral to attend at 2pm. Arrived at checkout counter around 1:15pm. One counter with 2 employees checking in customer for four different car rental agencies. There were 20-25 people in line. Waited about 15 minutes - line barely moved. Finally had to go rent a car through another company. First person I spoke with at Payless said they would provide a refund - that never happened. Now the company refuses to refund money or even provide a credit. Unless you have hours to stand in line, would avoid using this company at all cost.
