John at Spec’s Liquor is awesome! He's incredibly knowledgeable about their inventory and always knows exactly where to find what I'm looking for. He's introduced me to some great liquors I have gifted. Every time I visit, he's ready to help with a recommendation or answer questions. His expertise and friendly service make shopping there a pleasure. Highly recommend asking for John if you need guidance!

Exceptional Service and Expert Wine Guidance at Spec’s Stone Oak!
Spec’s at Stone Oak is hands-down one of the best locations in San Antonio. The store is always spotless, well-organized, and stocked with an incredible selection of wines. The layout makes it easy to browse everything from everyday favorites to finds I cannot find anywhere else, and the staff consistently goes above and beyond to help.
If you go, ask for Don, one of the wine specialists, who truly makes this store stand out. His depth of knowledge, passion for wine, and ability to match bottles perfectly to your preferences are outstanding. Whether you’re exploring new regions, looking for food pairings, or building your collection, Don takes the time to listen and guide you to something exceptional every time. Ask for recipes if you enjoy cooking. He’s friendly, patient, and always willing to share insights that make the experience both educational and enjoyable.
Spec’s Stone Oak is a store that makes shopping for wine feel personal, relaxed, and fun. Thanks to Don and the rest of the team, this has become my go-to place for all things wine. Highly recommend!

Specs used to be my go-to—a proud, family-run Texas liquor store with deep roots. But my recent visit was disappointing. The staff flirted with the customer ahead of me, then rushed me out without courtesy. No Apple Pay, either—something even rural gas stations offer now. Worse, no one seemed equipped to recommend products. I asked about whiskey pairings and got blank stares. Everyone I know now recommends Total Wine & More. I used to champion Specs as a Texas gem. Not anymore. Quality fades, and loyalty only goes so far. Just sharing my experience—make of it what you will.

I go to this location to much. They are all great, but the hospitality and attention to customer’s needs from David the stocker is amazing. You don’t have to ask for help, he just knows you need assistance.

Good selection of liquor. Staff was able to locate something immediately. One lady was able to look up a certain tequila brand we wanted and told us that it was located at different location and sent us there. Unfortunately they don't carry much of a MEAD selection which we were hoping for.

Great Cigar selection as well as reasonable hours in which the business is open. Stopped by yesterday morning, got blessed with no stress.

Love Specs in general, but my only gripe is this location is smaller than others and doesn't have quite the inventory that the larger Specs locations do. So docking a star. Everything else is great, employees are super helpful and the store is clean.

Rented beer Keg for birthday party on Saturday. Picked up Friday before event. Tap provided was faulty. Unable to get a single drop of beer from keg due to faulty tap. Specs was not willing to provide a refund of $161 of unused beer, even though we spent several hundred dollars on liquor for the same party. Lesson learned, test the taps before leaving the store, and maybe shop somewhere else.

This is the worst location, this incident was the final straw, I order kegs throughout the year for different events for my non profit as well as personal events, there’s been multiple Times that I order the keg more than two weeks in advance and then when I get to the location, they don’t have it so I’ve had to go to other locations to pick it up because they don’t have or didn’t reserve mine. This last incident was the final straw. I ordered a pony keg for a small backyard wedding and returned it today. My boyfriend was the one who returned it so he didn’t have the receipt on him however we used his bank card for it and they tried to tell him that we had Taken four pony kegs, which would make no sense because why take four pony kegs as opposed to taking one big keg, but when he said that doesn’t make sense and to let me call her for the receipt, then they couldn’t find the receipt on their system, even though we gave him the exact time and date. It’s obvious that the people that work there are not very competent in doing business. I will no longer go to this location although it is the closest one to me I would rather drive a little further as to avoid all of the complications that go with simply ordering a keg from this location.

It was a late Wednesday afternoon. I had just gotten off work from the briefcase factory. After non-stop meetings about our sales being down due to no one needing a briefcase, I decided to indulge myself. I asked Bing where the closest liquor store was. To my surprise there were a few close by. My personal driver suggested a place called Specs. Off we went. Once we arrived, I was instantly hit with the lovely smell of low quality Halloween decorations. God bless Hob Lob. Once finally in the store, I was greeted by a lovely man. Good build. Long hair. I inquired about some sweet wine that I can drink until I can’t feel my uncomfortable dress shoes. This man took me into a dream describing how every note of each wine is its own symphony. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s in love with their job, but it’s this man. Give him a raise. Give him the store. Give him the keys to the company. Michael. You are amazing. Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now working at Spec’s, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest manager in Texas. I will be returning to Spec's soon, thirsty for more.
