Located in the heart of San Antonio, the Alamo is a Shrine to Texas Liberty and the state's most visited destination. It tells the story of Texas Independence as part of its rich 300-year history. The site is very well kept and offers a very interesting museum. Entry to see the historic church is free, while a ticket provides access to artifacts and exhibits for a fee. It is a great place to learn about Texas history, particularly the brave defense of the Alamo. The videos and knowledgeable actors deepen understanding of the events and people. A new opportunity to see discovered frescoes dating to the 1700s is a must see. Many find it a cool, interesting, and ironically educational place, noting its convenient location near the River Walk. While some feel it is a little overhyped, for the price and location, it is considered a solid pit stop and a favorite place where visitors learn more each time they return.
An icon in Texas history and it’s a free visit! We booked the free church visit which was interesting but there was a bit of a wait inside for the short video on the significance of the Alamo church. Otherwise you can walk around the grounds and read/watch about the history.

One of the greatest places to learn about Texas history, particularly the brave defense of the Alamo. I particularly enjoyed the videos they’ve created, as they truly deepened my understanding of those events and people.
