The small town of Bracken TX & its places of business has character & characters. When the Bracken Cafe relocated to Retama Race Track, the Bracken Store & Ice House opened its doors at this address. The new business appealed to people who enjoyed good food (Food truck) expanded dining to outdoors, added a convenient store & live entertainment. What brought me back today at 0100pm was a fund raiser for Earl Rhodes. A BBQ, bake sale, & an auction of very nice donated items. Earl is a friend of LeAn Watson Butler whom I have known from workouts & socials at the old Spectrum gym. It is a good worthy cause. Think anyone going to the ice house, to eat or be entertained would feel very comfortable doing so. Everyone I met from LeAn's group or the store were super friendly & engaging.

Chicken sandwich was a little under cooked, but the staff remedied it by giving me a cheeseburger on the house, they didn't have to. Mary, the bartender on shift was top notch. Very inviting & provided great service.

A great Texas style beer garden, wide open and rustic with a very nice patio area for socializing and dancing. The bartenders and waitstaff are friendly and attentive and even correct one their bosses when they aren't friendly or accommodating.

We were looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon with friends, and found out about the Chicken S*** Bingo so there was no way we could resist!! Per some of the reviews here, we showed up early as recommended. The information we saw online said bingo starts at 3, so we showed up at 2 to get a table. Too early, at least for this particular day. The band was still setting up, the food truck wasn't set to open until 4, and we were told that bingo usually starts around 4. The place is a cute, fun, little honkytonk right off 2252 outside 1604. Out back, you'll find a covered dance floor area, stage, a chicken yard and the bingo table. There are umbrella covered tables in the yard area with ashtrays, and no smoking under the covered area. A lot of the tables were reserved, so that might be something to consider the next time we go (and we will definitely go again). There seemed to be a lot of regulars. Not sure how family-friendly it is since we didn't notice any children. Maybe it was coincidence or maybe it's policy. Check if you plan to go. We were a little surprised to see that most people who eventually showed up had brought their own food and snacks. We will absolutely do that next time! Beers were cold and the girls serving did a pretty good job of making their rounds outside to take orders. If you're hungry, though, and you didn't bring your own food, be sure to get plenty of drinks in you first because we found the food truck to be pretty terrible and overpriced. The truck offered a burger, a pork chop on a stick, and chicken fajita nachos. The burger was $8 and was truly the worst burger we've ever had. I don't understand the comments I read online about them having great burgers, unless a burger the size of a sausage patty on a tiny dry AF bun is supposed to be impressive. It literally cracked and broke apart in our hands and we all had to pick it apart to eat it. Awful. One person in our party got the nachos and they were equally unimpressed. On the other hand, we all agreed the french fries were delicious. Chicken S*** Bingo explained: Tickets are $2 each, only one ticket per person allowed. To make it fair, you can't buy a ticket for your spouse or friend, you can't buy a ticket for everyone in your group, you can only buy one ticket. There are a total of 74 tickets: 72 numbers, one "cross" and one "line." The game doesn't start until all 74 tickets have been sold. So. Much. Fun.The band of the day was awesome! They gained new fans in us and we plan to see them at other locations and events around town.Never had an encounter with this "manager" or "owner" who's supposed to be so terrible. Everyone on staff was very friendly!Next time you're looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon, consider this place!
