As the first-time organizer of a tour of 32 senior citizens in a rental bus to see 6 of the Painted Churches, I can tell you that the EASIEST part of all of this was the call to the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. They were polite on the phone, asked the right questions in the most efficient order and then answered all of MY questions to my complete satisfaction. The guide we were "given" for the day was extremely knowledgeable AND polite and friendly with our seniors. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!!

Had to pay $5 for a map. Im used to these touristy maps being free so i got surprised i had to pay for it. I was offered the guided paid tour too but im not interested in any of that. Used the restroom anyways and it was clean.

The chamber of commerce should be about customer service and enhancing an experience for the visitor while helping the community it’s within. Sadly that didn’t happen for either in our case. My wife was told we could come in and follow along with a tour of the “painted Churches” as long as we paid. She was told we couldn’t actually go with the group but we could follow. We drove to town to do so and we were told she misunderstood and we could not by another person. The lady that told us this said the tours are booked in advance and it’s a lot of paperwork to add someone last minute. We saw three employees and one other customer. We would certainly not want to make someone do paperwork. Heaven forbid. We even offered to pay full price to follow along. We did a self guided tour instead and walked in on a guided tour with only three individuals in the group. Sad to not have been able to spend $50 bucks plus tip for participating in a tour. We understood the proceeds helped the Churches with upkeep. Several of them could have benefited from our $50.00

If you look at the pattern of the reviews, the self-guided folks are grumpy. Probably because some of the churches are locked to those who do not utilize the guided tours. The booking process needs a little tweaking. All phone calls and emails to the office were promptly returned. We met our designated tour guide on time with plenty of parking nearby, she hoped in the back of the truck and we spent ~5 hours listening to the incredible history and land marks in this area. We did the six church tour and did not regret. 3/4 the way through the tour, we stopped for good BBQ and a cold one/two. Small town pace with incredible painted churches.

I had seen the beautiful Painted Churches on my own in past. This time, hosting our annual girls trip, we booked a tour with the Chamber of Commerce. We got SO much more information and history with our guide Dennis. Very reasonable and well worth it! Gavin in the Chamber office was a pleasure to work with too!

The Ladies in the office were so helpful. I'm new to the State of Texas. Plus, I moved into Schulenburg, I needed to know more about my new town. They were so helpful.

We took our Winter Texans to tour the Painted Churches. Gigi Bowman was our Tour guide provided by the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. She was amazing and had so much fascinating information to share. Great organization with great docents
