I have nothing bad to say about his tattoos. I am hugely disappointed though in his art mentorship program; it was not what I expected, and there were promises made by him that never happened. He fails to communicate after a while and tells me he is busy with other business ventures. All well and good - I get and understand that. But at least keep promises about what the paid service involves. I want a refund back for the entire 2nd month of NOTHING being done as promised -including scheduling a second "planning" session for the mentorship. I wish Joel well, but the mentorship program has issues in my opinion; it sounds to me from his email that he is diversifying too quickly to maintain all his efforts. Please just refund me the second month and I would call our relationship complete. **Edit: In response to the reply below - Joel, I am not expressing animosity, except that you said we could meet up again and do it one-on-one scheduling since your platform was not allowing me to do a second meetup with you at the time. I reached back out to you and you never responded with a date/time/Zoom invite - see the attached photo of the last conversations about setting a time back on March 7th. I paid you for month 2 and it is now a month later. So all I ask for is a refund of the $150 from month 2. I did benefit from month 1, and have never disagreed that my goals and my focus on my art belong to me and my sole attention. I am not a "bad choice" which you make me sound like in this reply. My artwork speaks for itself, I AM a serious artist, and do not appreciate the implication that I might not be. I do not, however, appreciate any situation where a person or business asked for money, then do not provide the promised services, merely because, as you stated in your email to me, the party was busy with other ventures. If we had met the goal of setting that 2nd appointment back the week of March 7th for this second 30-days of art mentoring, I would not be reviewing you as I am herein. But that there has been no invites to that promised meeting - I emailed you times I was free that very week you were free - and despite that offer of "free" mentorship (despite the fact that the next 30 days - February 23-March 23 respectively - was already paid in full), the proffered 2nd month's meeting never was scheduled and I gave up hope for any forward movement for mentorship long distance like this. I wish you well but cannot help but feel sad when someone I look up to turns out to be only human. I only brought this public because waiting around since March 7th has grown thin and I no longer feel joy about the situation. (and amazingly you had time to reply to me only because I left a public review of how I feel after all this time).

I found Joel on the internet after an extensive search for the right trash polka artist. What can I say... I couldn't be more impressed by the artistic capability, the skill, the customer experience and Joel's "true tattoo sight." We spent some 10+ hours creating what I truly feel is a piece of art. Joel was extremely pleasant to work with and make conversation with throughout the entire process. He was extremely welcoming and I spent the entire session in the studio with my dog. The piece looks fantastic and is much more than I could have even imagined prior to my arrival. Joel's style is awesome, his tattooing is extremely light handed, and you can sense the passion he has for what he does. I will be back for another tattoo and another experience!

Joel is absolutely wonderful! If you’re looking for someone to stamp something on and send you on your way, keep moving. If you’re looking for an artist who takes as much pride in his work as you hope to, you’ve found the right person.Joel has always been realistic with time/cost estimates and has never even suggested at cutting corners. The vibe in the gallery is energizing but chill. It’s a pleasure to hang there all day!

I'll let y'all be the judge.... Obv the torso is not finished.., but does it really matter at this point...heavy hand and have scars throughout the tattoo. Would not recommend. --there's a post about a lady who has a similar experience with his draw ups...it's like 12yr old art. For some reason my review keeps getting deleted, so I'm going to keep reposting just so others can be warned. All of his photos on his website are photoshopped. --I knew I should've walked out when he drew up the "sketch". This is the worst piece of artwork I have on my body. It was supposed to be a sexy mermaid and I got 12yr old art instead lol My own fault. Now it's going to cost me thousands to get it removed--and I'll have permanent scarring because of his heavy hand. Straight up scam.

His talent is unparalleled. I am throughly impressed with his skills and artistry. His communication skills and professionalism are very lacking. As a business owner he does not show up when he schedules appt nor does he communicate via text or email in a timely fashion. Takes weeks to respond and today he blew me off to finish my tattoo when he scheduled it. While his artistry and skill are unparalleled his professionalism is underdeveloped and lacking.

I wanted to write a review as soon as I stepped into Joel studio, but at the same time I wanted to wait and share fully healed result. Joel is an incredible artist and one of a few artists in the US who works in Trash Polka style. I looked at some of his paintings and previous tattoos and knew we will get a masterpiece out of all the ideas I ha, but I couldn't even imaging what an amazing experience it will be. We came to Texarkana from Austin and Joel made all the necessary arrangements to make sure we can finish everything in 2 days so we can return home and get back to work. He is so gentle with the needle, I was warned that such large area on my ribs will be painful, but I barely felt it until the very end. As tattoo specialist with extensive experience he recommended regiment that will be best for my skin type and style and it healed perfectly. Within a week I could see that healing process is going well and that all colors stay as vibrant as when we finished it. It's been 2.5 months my tattoo looks marvelous and I cannot wait to start working on new project with Joel. If you are looking for tattoo that will become a real work of art and the one you will enjoy for years to come Joel is your artist. If you're coming from other cities and states he is absolutely worth it. I cannot recommend him highly enough you just need to come and experience it yourself!

Amazing artist! I was a nervous wreck when I walked in his studio. Joel made the whole experience comfortable and the piece is better than what I imagined. Highly recommended!

Amazing experience for my first tattoo, no pressure, nice chill environment, and very professional artist. I came with something in mind but also listened to his suggestions/recommendations and I couldn't be happier with the result.
