Very unfortunate that they only adopt out to people who have fenced yards. I am an animal care professional and there is a fenced dog area at my apartment building but I could not be considered to adopt a sweet, small dog because of no fenced area of my own. Disheartening since I had my eyes out for once special little dog I saw on Petfinder. Hope he finds a good home and doesn't have to wait a long time for a yard... I guess it's a thing in this area but I'm from Ohio and I find it quite unfortunate that this keeps dogs from going to loving homes down here.

Bad experience! They do not want to let their cats go to good homes unless you take 2 of them and very indecisive. I would NEVER recommend to anyone.***Update as of 9/15/2022*** The same Cats are still at PETSMART on Richmond Road. They still have not been adopted out. I believe they just keep them so they keep getting funding. They do not care about the cats!!! Sky, Rainbow, Oreo and Tango just too name a few are now about 3 months old! These babies need loving homes and not to spend their life in a small cubby daily!

They never answer the phone and they don’t return voicemails. I have a pregnant dog that was dumped off at our house and we called so many shelters in town and nobody answered or cared to help. I called this place at least six times and left one very thorough voicemail with my information so they would return a call. The dog gave birth today and I cannot take care of the puppies and this could have all been prevented had someone answered the phone or reached back out

During the first year of Covid 19, we had to put down my 15 year old rat terrier named Tucker in September of health problems, and then my Mom died the next month in the hospital. Texarkana Animal League gave me hope the next year in Spring 2021 when I found another rat terrier named Lidiya that also had chihuahua in her. She was the perfect match for me because she reminded me a lot about my previous rat terrier. If you are looking for your next fur baby during the pandemic and suffered the loss of your previous pet, Texarkana Animal League is the place of hope to get you back on your feet and connect with dogs and cats again. My Mother was a psychologist, and she studied pet therapy in her Masters Program in college in the early 90’s, and told me and other clients that the best way to keep your mind off of negative things, is to love on a dog and cat to take that negativity away. I have been volunteering at TAL since I adopted Lidiya last Easter Eve 2021 because I wanted to give back to my community just like my Mom to keep my mind happy and healthy.

Never bothered calling back, even when trying to adopt multiple cats. They essentially have no office hours and no one will answer the phone, you have to leave a message. I'm not sure how they expect to adopt out animals when they limit themselves to a few days a month.

Would you buy a vehicle from someone who told you what you can and can not do with it? If you answer yes to this, Texarkana Animal League is definitely the place to get an animal. We got refused a cat because we have dogs and a dog door, and also a cat......and their cats aren't allowed outside!

unprofessional handling of the adoption process. told we were an approved applicant and set up a time to meet a dog, then were told the day before the meeting that actually we wouldn’t be meeting or adopting this dog, they had a better applicant, and to try another shelter. allowed us no opportunity to make a case for ourselves or to talk about their decision - it was just no.we understand if we weren’t a good fit, but we were led to believe we were for several days then let down the day before we were set to potentially adopt this dog. we were excited to make this pup a member of our family but now will not return to this shelter for fear of getting our hopes up again.
