Backroads Food & Fuel is a locally owned and operated small town store on the north end of Highway 6 in Valley Mills. It is known as a hot spot and the next best place to eat, offering a great variety of food cooked to order. The menu includes hamburgers, a chicken strip basket, steak finger basket, fried pickles, fried pies, salads, wraps, pizza, and much more, with fish specials on weekends. The food is consistently described as great, good, fresh, and thoughtfully presented with ample portions and excellent price to value. The atmosphere is wonderful, with crafted wooden booths and tables, though vapors from cooking may build later in the day. The service is quick and comes with a smile, provided by employees who bring a sense of solidarity to the local community and travelers. The location is also a cool little hole-in-the-wall spot that offers unbranded fuel, tobacco, alcohol, and grab-and-go snacks. Notably, the bathrooms are amazingly clean, which is a welcome surprise.
