I have been renting cars for a long time. This was the first and last time I will rent from Thrifty. My wife used her credit card to reserve the car ahead of time and designated me as the driver like we always do. When we arrived after flying into SLC I went to the Thrifty counter to pick up the rental car. The girl at the counter, Tia, looked like she just woke up and was not very friendly. That's ok, I can understand that. I just need to pick up the car so we can go. She refused to let me do so because I didn't have my wife's credit card. No other car rental company has ever done this. My wife rents the car, I pay for it at pick up. I provided my ID, the rental agreement and my credit card but TIA would not accept that. My wife's credit card had been compromised the day before and no longer existed. We did not have the new card yet. Tia did not care one bit. She said we had to call customer service. I said you are customer service, can't you call them? Tia said it's not my job. My wife called customer service and gave them an alternate credit card. I went back to the counter and they said it did not change on their computer. My wife had to call customer service again. They finally got it corrected but would not allow my wife to make me the primary driver as it was on the original reservation. My wife is scared to death to drive in Salt Lake City but they would not change it and made her drive the car. I contacted Thrifty about this after we returned home and they do not care.So unless you like having to deal with a nightmare at the car rental counter after a long day of travel, DO NO RENT FROM THRIFTY!

The associates were extremely friendly and got us in and out of the line. But the car was perfect and an upgrade compared to what I thought I was going to get. I will definitely be using the services again when we come to salt lake City

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Made reservation on phone and asked their CSR to confirm it would be an AWD vehicle. They did. At SLC desk they refused to honor the price quoted and said we needed to replace our reservation with a more expensive class of car which DOUBLED THE PRICE. This after waiting 90 minutes at their understaffed counter. FRAUD.

I was a little concerned about using this Thrifty location based on other reviews and my past experience with a Thrifty in California, but I had a great experience.Fortunately, I got in line at just the right time. I only waited 15 mins or so, but the line got really long behind me and I imagine those folks had to wait a while. Thrifty and Dollar were in the same line with only two agents working.I got exactly what I needed as far as the car goes. Pick up and drop off were easy. Due to previously mentioned bad experience with another Thrifty location, I asked the agent at drop off to check the car/fuel levels/etc with me standing there. He was very patient - checked everything and showed me what he entered into his tablet before hitting submit.Overall a good experience and I would rent from this location again.

We booked a car online, the total with insurance was under $400 for the week. Great… we thought. Went to the desk to find out (no mention of this on their website or confirmation email) another $500 deposit was to be made at the time of purchase. On top of service charges and underage driver fee (at 23yrs, i know this is standard, but the information of age was provided online and therefore should have been included. A heads up would’ve been nice.) Therefore, our total went from $370– with the optional insurance— to $580 ($30/day “underage” driver fee) to over 1k with the unmentioned deposit. Absolutely ridiculous.

Thanksgiving week - every other car rental company has staffed counters and moving people through at a great pace. Thrifty has 2 people working and a line so long that just isn't moving. After 20 minutes I went to front row of line and asked the person waiting how long they had been waiting and they were at 90 minutes and counting. Even though I had a prepaid car, this is a short 2 days time with family so I just walked over to Budget and got a car in less than 5 minutes. As I walked off I said goodbye to the family that were waiting behind me in line at Thrifty and they said they wish they could do the same thing. Felt bad for them, but glad I just took a loss on the prepaid car and got a car so fast from competitor.

Make sure you read the details of your contract. They do not do a good job of explaining all the miscellaneous charges they will put on your card. I reserved a car for 2 days for $68. I was charged $228 and returned it with a nearly full tank of gas. They have no number for customer service so you can't talk to anybody after being overcharged. So you fill out their online feedback looking for a way to talk to somebody and never getting resolution. So then you have to dispute the charges on your credit card and leave a Google review and hopefully someone will call you so you can dispute the overcharges. Avoid Thrifty and go someplace honest!

Super long line to pick up car. Budget has nobody in line, maybe due to fastbreak? Why does thrifty not have fastbreak?? No one wants to wait for 60 people to be served prior to picking up their prepaid rental car. This is unacceptable thrifty- find a solution!!UPDATE: once I got my car, it was in good shape, was clean, and rode well. The turn-in process was easy. Overall a good experience after the initial pickup was over.

I always forget but THRIFTY and their partner DOLLAR ALWAYS HAVE HORRIBLE LONG LINES and nothing you can do about it. DO NOT recommend. I’ve been waiting an hour at the SLC airport IN LINE and there are 3 agents!! 7 computers available! They surely can see the incoming loads of reservations and can plan for it!! I will NOT be using them again. TIME IS MONEY ….. they are wasting BOTH for me!!

Reading the reviews prior to pick up I was a little nervous, but I had a great experience with thrifty. I did arrive at 7:30am so there was no line (which seemed to be a big complaint), but the lady working at the counter before I was up was trying to help a guy who did not have the right credentials. She was giving him a bunch of different options and truly cared. When I got up she sparked a friendly conversation, didn't force me to buy anything and got me to my car in about 5 minutes. Returning was a breeze, but my friend did end up forgetting his bag in the car. The next day after submitting a request they had his bag ready to be picked up. Was glad I found a cheap option that also has good service.

Ridiculously bad service. Had a reservation. Waited in line for an hour (8 service desks, staffed by 2 employees). Finally got to the agent who said they didn't have the economy size. Rather than honoring our reservation and offering us what they had available, they told us to wait 2 hours for a car to be available, or pay the higher cost for the car they had in stock. How is this acceptable?

The longest lines by far and the fewest agents. If you feel like waiting for another hour after a long flight, this is the place to be.

As is usual for an airport the line and wait was long. Staff were extremely professional when dealing with upset customers and maintained their composure when dealing with at times unwarranted abuse. For me they were great (once I got to the front of the line) and even talked me out of buying "add ons" as they explained due to my travel destinations the extra costs were unnecessary. They really needed more staff on as the initial wait was over an hour to get served but they were great after that so if not for the lengthy wait would be 5 stars

I recently had a deeply disappointing experience with Economy Bookings and Thrifty. I made a reservation last week, expecting it to guarantee me a car for my scheduled pickup time. Unfortunately, the reality couldn't have been more different.Upon arriving at Thrifty as scheduled, I was shocked to be informed that there were no cars available. This blatant disregard for my reservation left me both frustrated and baffled. I arrived punctually and in good faith, fully expecting that my reservation would secure the service I had booked. The fundamental principle of a reservation is to set aside a specific item or service for the customer's use. In this case, that principle was not upheld. The situation was further aggravated when I was told that nothing could be done to assist me. This is nothing short of unacceptable.

They had one employee working on a Saturday morning, line was 40+ people deep. They were in no hurry, an hour later we finally got to the counter only to be told they needed a $500 credit hold on my debit card and a credit check. I don't recall asking to buy the damn car. They were rude and told me that's the policy, regardless if we paid the rental in full. I was lucky it was a new car with no issues, but I'll gladly pay more to avoid Thrifty. And we travel monthly! They've lost a client for life!
