Made a reservation for a 15' truck and a tow trailer for to take my truck back to Nevada. Picked the downtown location because it was 3 blocks from my work. Get to the counter to find that the location only does local hires and that my reservation was moved to another location at Millcreek. Being on foot and not from Salt Lake City, I asked where the other location was and he said that it was a tram ride then a walk from the station. With no ATM's anywhere between this dealer and the tram station, I resorted to a $20 taxi ride to the other location. All an all, a complete waste of time being that the Uhaul reservations system never gave me an update via e-mail on the location change AND the ADHOC/ Search does not detract locations that are for one way hires when making the reservations.I have had 3 failed attempts with Uhaul in the Salt Lake area. Roy, Ogden and now in the city itself in the last 18 months for one way hires. The hire from Elko to SLC 3 weeks ago was a disaster with a stripped transmission leaving 2nd and 3rd gear over revving at 4,200 and 4,500 RMP's over 3 summits. The Millcreek location was no better as I was given what I had asked for but with only a 1/4 tank of gas. When I told them I could wait till the could fill it, they said "That's not going to happen". Apparently the manager was the only individual with a fuel card to top of the truck. When offered a $15 'discount', I told the staff member that the truck has an $80 tank. He tried to argue that it was $40 and seeing it was the same truck hired 3 weeks ago, you would think that the staff member would now more about his product that the random customer making the hire. I was not offered and damage sheet to inspect the vehicle, nor walked around the vehicle. Opened the back end of the truck to find a bed frame part from the last user which means that the renter didn't clean out the truck AND that the staff never verified the truck in the return process. So bad service, communications with the client, failure to fuel and ensure the truck was ready for return to service. All around a failure by Uhaul Salt Lake. The only reason I did not go to Penske was that there are no dealers within 180 miles of my drop off point. If you are looking to hire a truck, give this location a miss.
