The staff and McNeils are fantastic. They truly care about what’s best for you and the car. They are friendly and the mechanics are knowledgeable. I’m a happy returning customer.

Jeff was great! They are very knowledgable and wanted to make sure that they found the correct problem instead of just fixing what might be the problem. My car was making that horrible squealing sound when I first turned it on. Just to make sure that was where the sound was coming from they kept my car and extra day and discovered that the squealing sound was coming from something else. Great people and service!

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. My girlfriend's car stalled on the highway about ten days ago. It got towed to McNeil's. The clearest thing, of course, was an issue with the alternator. McNeil's diagnosis was that the battery had died (this was suspicious, since dead batteries don't usually cause a car to stall out, but rather won't start to begin with). But we trusted them and allowed them to go ahead with replacing the battery and a host of other recommended touch ups (changing the radiator hose, topping off the oil, etc.) since we were just so relieved to not have to replace the alternator which would have been far more expensive. All in all, we spent $663 on these fixes. When we go to pick up the car, however, the mechanic lets us know that the alternator is in fact failing intermittently, and that that was likely the issue all along. So, NOW we had to have the alternator replaced, which came to a whopping $1,194 (in addition to the $663 we would not have paid if the right diagnosis had originally been given). While this convenient realization at the last minute resulting in a higher check for McNeil's also seemed sketchy, we still trusted that it was just an honest oversight. When we went to pick up the car the next day after McNeil's had closed, we opened the hood just to check the oil and see the new alternator. We noticed that the oil dipstick was missing, which if we had not noticed would have led to serious issues down the road (an alarming oversight and one that we're fortunate to have caught ourselves). So, we had to drive back down the next day to pick that up. Three visits to McNeil's and almost $1,900 later, we at least hoped the car was fine. Well, it wasn't. Two days ago my girlfriend was back on the highway and stalled out again, smoke coming out from the engine and all. We had the car towed this time to a different shop. As we have learned from the mechanics there, apparently when McNeil's changed the radiator hose they didn't replace the filler neck, and the pressure from the new hose caused a rupture that spewed coolant everywhere, causing the engine to overheat. For our troubles, McNeil's has offered a free oil change. Needless to say, the last thing we want to do is go back there. And hopefully no one else does either. Save yourself the money and the troubles. The most McNeil's has going for it is that their service advisor, Erica, is very nice. But her niceness is not enough to compensate for the incompetence of their mechanics.

Friendly, genuine people here! On my way home from Draper Park I noticed the tire pressure was down low. The manager is such a straight forward, nice woman and I can't believe she remembered me with all the people she meets daily. I pulled around back and Josh filled the tire, checked the oil and said that I could use a little. Anthony kindly added a little oil and both were so friendly, including with my kid who was chatting at them from the back seat.Josh explained that McNeil's is also doing apprenticeships to help people get trained as mechanics while they do their schoolwork. I love this way of doing things without people having to go into huge debt to become professionals. They take care of our car but they also take care of us. Thanks McNeil's.

Some of the best and friendliest service I've ever received, and they really know their stuff. Took pictures of everything and sent me an email invoice where I could PICK AND CHOOSE which services I wanted to approve, with all the data attached for me to make my own decision. Definitely recommend these guys.

I have been in a similar type of industry for close to forty years, thirty of them as a technician. In my whole life I have never paid anyone to repair any of my vehicles. After having four spine surgeries I found myself unable to perform repairs on my vehicles. I took my Ford Escape to McNeils because of the high Google ratings. I brought it in with an oil leak and the A/C not working. Well, I got just exactly what I expected from an auto repair shop. I came in with and oil leak and non working A/C, two day later and after a one thousand dollar bill. I still have a car with an oil leak and non working A/C. Not saying McNeils is a bad shop, I just believe the entire auto repair industry is mostly a rip off. (they wanted over three thousand more to fix the car that they didn't fix the first time) The only thing I can say positive about my experience is, at least the people were friendly. (the reason for two stars)

We had my daughters jeep into Mcneils three different times and each time they said it was fixed but the check engine light continued to go on The last time they kept it for two weeks and said it was fixed but again the engine light went on. It would have been more honest of them to say they were not capable of fixing this problem instead of stringing along

If you are looking for a trusted mechanic who thoroughly checks your vehicle , keeps you informed during the whole process (they include photos of the parts that need work done and prices/detailed explanations attached to each one—they also give you the opportunity to select which ones you’d like them to do as well as ensure they get your approval prior to moving forward) and has great communication—look no further! These guys helped me out with a very sentimental vehicle of mine and got her up and running with flying colors! I would recommend them to anyone and will definitely be coming back for any other vehicle issues I may experience.

They always do great work here. They were able to find a vibration due to missing hub centric ring on the acter market rims. Had taken to 2 different tire shops. I always bring my cars to McNeil's.

Kimberly was my angel today, she was so nice she truly went above and beyond for me today. My wife passed from cancer so I am now a single dad trying my best with what I have worried and hoping that it would only be my battery and not something more expensive, she tested it and replaced it in a matter of minutes. My daughter and I will be heading back to California in the next month and I really didn’t have anything to take back with me but I can honestly say now I do. Kimberly was so nice we talked for a moment and she made me realize that good people still are out there and I thank her for that. This lady deserves the best, thank you again from the bottom of my heart. -JoelService: Auto battery replacement

I highly recommend McNeil's! This shop provides a consistently excellent experience that has no parallel, in my opinion. The service advisors and mechanics are all so first-class and detail-oriented that I know my car is in good hands and that the staff works with integrity to address my car's needs.Special thanks to Andrew, Tyler, Erica, and Seth for setting an unprecedented standard of personable and professional service in this industry!

DO NOT GO HERE!!! These guys are crooks and liars! I brought my Lexus in with a CAT code P0420 and Evap small leak and sensor codes. They started out with saying that it was a bad gas cap and wanted to charge me $157 for their diagnostic and $34 for a gas cap. Then Andrew called me and said that didn't fix the issue and that they did another smoke test and that they needed to replace the Fuel Vapor Pressure Control Valve which is very simple to fix and wanted to charge $357 at a mark up of 150% for the part alone. Then the next day Andrew called me back again and said that the part didn't fit the bolt pattern on my vehicle??? So now they have to replace a different part -the EVAP Pressure Pump and charged me $890. Then After driving my car a few times all of the warning and check engine light came back on so I brought my car to a different mechanic and they did a diagnostic and the code P0420 CAT was still there and that code is 100% accurate that the Catalytic Converter was bad and needed to be replaced and that was a major repair. I told them that McNeils charged me $890 and that I did not have an invoice and that I did ask for one and they said that they would email me the invoice which I never received.I called MCNEILS and spoke to Andrew and I asked why he didn't tell me that I was going to have to replace my cat converter and he said that they will only warrant the part that they replaced and that if it was something other than that it was on me not them. I told him bottom line I paid them to accurately diagnose and fix my car! My husband and I went to McNeils and talked to Jake to try and get our hard earned money back and he said that he would give $430 back if we don't leave a negative review. I refused because it's only right that I warn other people so they don't have to go through this. Jake had the audacity to ask me that if they had told us up front that the Catalytic Converter also had to be replaced for $1800 would I have been happy and I said yes because my car would have been fixed and we wouldn't have to deal with all of the stress and anguish that they have caused us by not being honest and upfront when they knew damn well that they never fixed the major problem and that the warning lights would come back on and that the CAT Code P0420 was not cleared because it was not fixed. What is worse is that when we were looking under the hood of the car trying to figure out why the bad solenoid was never replaced our 5 year old baby dog snuck in the hot car and died within minutes in this heat as we were preoccupied with the trouble that they have caused. My family is devastated and we will never get our baby Rocko back which is priceless.
