Regrettably, our stay at Capitol Reef Resort fell significantly short of expectations, particularly given the premium pricing. For the rate charged, one would anticipate a high level of service and quality, yet we experienced quite the opposite.
To begin, the accommodations were disappointing. Our room was not up to cleanliness standards, and essential amenities were lacking. For a location where insects are prevalent, something as basic as insect repellent was not provided. Additionally, the heater did not function properly, which was especially uncomfortable on colder nights. Information about resort services and schedules was unclear, leaving us with uncertainty throughout our stay.
The dining experience also left much to be desired. The food quality was well below the expectations for a resort in this price range. Limited options and poor quality led us to dine off-property, an inconvenience we did not expect.
It’s unfortunate that a property with such a beautiful setting has not matched that with a similarly high-quality experience for guests. Capitol Reef Resort would greatly benefit from consulting on guest service and hospitality standards to offer a truly enjoyable stay. With the prices they charge, guests should feel they are receiving value for money, but that was not our experience.
Without improvements, this property may struggle to maintain its premium appeal.
Rooms: The rooms at Capitol Reef Resort offer a range of options, from standard hotel-style rooms to unique “glamping” setups like wagons and teepees. However, the experience didn’t quite live up to the photos. Our room felt outdated, and there were issues with cleanliness — not what you’d expect for the price. The heating system struggled to keep up with the colder desert nights, and basic amenities were minimal.
While the idea of staying in wagons and cabins is charming, the actual upkeep and comfort could use improvement. For a resort charging premium rates, the rooms really need to match the expectations they set.
Nearby activities: In addition to the resort experience, we were disappointed by the quality and value of the nearby activities offered. For instance, the horseback riding excursion, priced at $150, felt overpriced and not worth the cost. The experience was minimal and lacked the immersive quality one would expect for such a high rate.
While the landscape is undeniably beautiful, the activity itself did not deliver in terms of value or engagement. It felt more like a tourist trap than a genuine adventure. For guests seeking memorable and worthwhile experiences, this particular offering could leave them feeling misled. We would recommend looking into alternative ways to explore the area that offer more authentic value for the cost.
Safety: While Capitol Reef Resort is located in a generally safe, remote area near Capitol Reef National Park, we were surprised to find that no safety guidelines or orientation were provided upon check-in. Basic precautions, such as locking room doors and knowing emergency evacuation routes, are essential in a remote location, yet there was no information or guidance on these points. For a resort in this price range, we would expect more attention to guest safety and preparedness, especially considering the isolated nature of the area.
Walkability: Capitol Reef Resort is set in a remote, scenic area near Capitol Reef National Park, which means amenities are not within easy walking distance. While there are on-site activities, for dining options, shops, or other services, you’ll need a car to reach the nearest town, Torrey, a few miles away.
Food and drinks: Our dining experience at Capitol Reef Resort was nothing short of disappointing. Due to our late arrival, we found that there was no food available, and the on-site shop — which supposedly should have provided some options — was already closed. When we

PLEASE READ. Don't make the mistake and miss the chance to stay here. I promise you will enjoy your stay. This place is so nice. No it's amazing.
They have everything you need.
Hot tub, pool, food(breakfast, lunch, and dinner), outdoor adventures, amazing staff, clean rooms and they are nice sized room. They have so many different rooms, they have TP's, Wagons(like pioneer wagons, they have cabins. Okay and this is my first time staying. I'm sure there is so much more.
Thanks for the amazing night stay.
Walkability: Very nicely planned, lit up well at night.
Food and drinks: They have a restaurant attached to the lobby.
They also have a soda machine 20 oz. Soda only $1.50. thanks for keeping it real.

An upgraded motel. The “superior” room was dark, dated, and with more of a view of the parking lot than the mountain. Do not trust the photos which must correspond to a renovated part.
Rooms: Very dark, without charm.

We loved this hotel! We had a room with an unobstructed view. There is not much around Capital Reef- National Park and we were glad we chose to stay here. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and both meals were good with prompt friendly service. You can't be at the views!

Great place to stay when visiting Capitol Reef National Park. It's about a 10 minute drive from the park, but the drive to the park itself is quite scenic. There is a restaurant (Pioneer Kitchen) in the hotel that has dinner service from 5 pm to 10 pm. There are a variety of items to choose from and it is quite convenient to have a restaurant on location if you don't feel like driving out for a meal. Breakfast service is at 7 am, but it is not a buffet style, you order from a menu. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful at check in and provide some information about the National Park as well in a welcome pamphlet. Highly recommend staying here when visting Capitol Reef!

This resort was a wonderful place to stay while I was at Capitol Reef park, conveniently located 5 minutes away. The views were stunning, the hot tub and pool were excellent after long hiking days, and the breakfasts in the restaurant were delicious and reasonably priced, I would recommend the omelets.

Enjoyed our stay at Capitol Reef Resort. We had a 2 bed private cabin which had plenty of space and a porch to enjoy good weather after a day of hiking. Beds were comfortable. Only downside is that ice was a bit of a walk from where we were. No troubles with service & I left a separate review of the restaraunt (spoilers: better options elsewhere in town).

We arrived at 3:56p for 4p check in and I was told that I was only guarantied a 4p check in and needed to wait for 4minutes. Then at 4p the reception human spoke to me in a sing song voice about the amenities etc. Rooms mediocre, need updating and you can hear the folks around you. We tried the pool and hot tub, fine, but this pool is surrounded by plexiglass and there were dozens of dead migrating songbirds on the ground around the pool. Not ok. Get some stickers or real fencing. They advertise a fire pit and you can buy s’mores kits in the gift shop but it’s a gas fire pit and that is not what I want to roast marshmallows over. Location very good. We ate in Bicknell at Curry Pizza which is a hoot.
Rooms: Small and outdated.
Nearby activities: Right outside of Capitol Reef NO

Pretty good place, liked the room. My hesitation about giving a higher rating comes from the quality of the breakfast (not included) and the number of smokers standing just outside their rooms puffing away.
Nearby activities: Tours and activities available.

Because of a resort, a simple and dingy motel, room "Studio Suite King" dark and it smells strongly "musty", no breakfast included. Pictures on the website do not match the impression on site.

SO ...
Big problem between the photos on the site and our room...we were immediately disillusioned ?? even if the view remains pleasant, small terrace but not secure, too bad it's impossible to dry some laundry at night.
Breakfast in the morning, so we have to review the whole organization!!! It's the first time I've witnessed such a "mess" too bad

Quiet, very close to Capital Reef NP, gorgeous views, very friendly staff, great breakfast and dinner (no plastic tablewear/silverware!) Pleasant, welcoming atmosphere.

These people do not know the definition of a “resort.” Beyond the location (just outside the gate of CRNP), there is nothing that resembles a resort.
Check-in was horrible; they ran my credit card 4 times (resulting in a triple-charge for the security deposit), and took almost 1/2 hour, while the line of people waiting continued to grow.
Restaurant is pedestrian. Nothing special at all; better restaurants are nearby. (Staff was nice there, though.)
Room is average, at best. Room size is large, but everything is dated. Want your in-room coffee in the morning? Sorry, housekeeping is “out of coffee,” as is the front office.
Internet is spotty- cuts in and out, and is weak- even in front office.
In all honesty, this is a 2- to 3-star hotel. Do not recommend for the price they charge.

It’s an older hotel as they all are in the area. It was very clean, beds were comfortable. Great view from our room.
