GCU wasn't even on our radar when we were buying a home. We intended to use the same big national bank that we've used for all our banking needs for over a decade. Our realtor recommended getting a pre-approval letter from a local lender as well because it will show the sellers that we have multiple lenders willing to back us. She recommended Todd Hatfield at GCU. I called Todd on a Saturday intending to put an offer in that night. Time was of the essence. The house we wanted had been on the market for a single day and would receive five other offers that weekend. I sent Todd the relevant financial records and he had us a pre-approval letter within an hour. We put an offer on the house that same day and were under contract by Sunday evening. Now we had to pick a lender. Our big national bank just couldn't compete with GCU's interest rates. It would've cost us $10k+ to buy down our big national bank's rate to match GCU. So the choice was obvious. That's when Todd introduced us to our new mortgage loan processor, Lindsay Jensen. Together, these two mortgage specialists were a sledgehammer while every little issue we had was just another nail to be pounded. Whatever came up, they took the weight off us and handled the problem on GCU's end. Everything from updating signatures on scores of different forms, to ferreting out all of the little ankle biter issues when using a VA loan, to repeatedly applying for a State of Utah grant for first-time Veteran homebuyers. These two dynamos handled it all. We now have our dream home and will look to Granite Credit Union first for all of our future banking needs.
