I brought my healthy 6-year-old, 5 lb Shih Tzu to PETCO for a simple bath and haircut. Less than an hour later, I received a call saying she had collapsed during the blow-drying process and was being rushed to the emergency vet.
The vet said she likely suffered neck and/or brain trauma, potentially due to tight grooming restraints. She had a stroke, lost her vision, and nearly died. The emergency bill was over $3,700. PETCO covered only $581, and I paid the rest out of pocket to keep my dog alive and rule out any underlying conditions — none were found.
PETCO staff initially appeared concerned and mentioned reviewing video footage. Later, I was told there was no video — or that if there was, I wouldn't be allowed to see it.
What should’ve been a $75 grooming appointment turned into a traumatic, life-threatening emergency. Please be extremely cautious before trusting PETCO with your pet’s care.

Great service and very friendly! I am happy to go back for vaccines and future services for my cats and new kitten. The red-headed gentleman with the dog tattoo on his arm and beard, was SO nice and helpful to everyone I saw. He was even better when I got to talk to him when I checked out with my little girls.

I am furious. If I could give -5 stars I would. We payed $90 to get my husky groomed. We paid for deshedding treatment and everything.
It took over three hours. My dog came out WET, they didn’t clip her nails, she was very obviously scared AND she is still shedding so much! It’s like they sprayed her down and that’s it. She also smells like wet dog!
Their excuse was “she knocked over her water bowl in the kennel. And wouldn’t let us clip her nails”
1: why was she in a kennel? You should have been with my dog grooming her the entire time.
2: I don’t care if she “didn’t like the dryer” you could have tried a towel or something! And did you even clean her ears or anything else?
3: I have never had a place not be able to clip her mais before, she gets nervous but they always are able to get it done no problem.
4: I paid an extra $30 for Dr shedding and my dog smells bad and I’m still pulling clumps out of her.
I honestly will NEVER take my dog here again and would have NEVER paid this much. I could have done a better job at home for less. I feel so scammed.

Kira, Kensie, and Trinity were super great helping me with purchases for my new tank! Names are coming soon but the loaches are collective Little Idiot (with love) :) They all have such distinct personalities already and it’s only been a few hours

Kids were begging to go here. We have been good customers in the past. Kids wanted a fish tank and fish. I asked to use the restroom and was refused. I don't understand why someone would refuse a shopper and have them go to the mall when they clearly have restrooms available. They just keep them locked. Will never be back.
To the owners. your response doesn't address the restroom policy. If the manager doesn't allow customers to use the restroom, it doesn't solve the problem.
