The Brattleboro Food Co-op is a community-owned grocery store operated by over 9,000 members, open seven days a week. It offers a wide range of products, including fresh produce, meat, seafood, bulk foods, packaged foods, frozen items, beer, wine, and a deli with hot and salad bars. Customers can enjoy grab-and-go options and an extensive wellness department. The store is praised for its excellent selection of organic fruits and vegetables, cheeses, and local products, with many items clearly marked to highlight local sourcing. The deli and ready-to-eat food sections are friendly and helpful, and the staff is known for being dedicated, passionate, and engaged. Visitors often mention the delicious produce, sushi, and the variety of Christmas specialties. The store balances community, pricing, and value, although prices can be higher than some conventional stores, reflecting the focus on quality and local sourcing. The store also features a gift section with soaps, skin care, puppets, and other items, which customers find tempting and enjoyable. The wellness department offers a wide selection of products, and the co-op now provides catering for larger events. Overall, the Brattleboro Food Co-op is valued for its great selection, friendly staff, and strong community focus, with spending reinvested into local businesses and the community rather than distant corporate headquarters.
I have been visiting Brattleboro from CT on and off for 15 years. This is always my first stop and it's a great place for healthy products and local food.
