We’ve passed by this restaurant a few times on our way to Hogback. The food looked really good, so figured we’d give it a shot. Let me tell you, J’s did not disappoint, whatsoever. We both ordered country fried steak with gravy. The sides were very generous portions, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and cornbread. The steak was incredible. Hands down some of the best fried steak I’ve ever had. This is the epitome of Southern BBQ style comfort food. I wish I could give this place 10 stars.

It feels like a game nerd gathering place rather than a normal restaurant. Not so many tables to sit and eat (They do have few outdoor tables). Interesting layout with ping pang table, reading corner and band stage etc. The food is surprisingly good! We ordered rib and gmhalf chicken, very tender and delicious. Even with this take-out place, the owner was very nice and check on you constantly when we decided dine in.I highly recommend you stop by and give a try when you leaf peeping. Way much better than that 6 min away restaurant called Pizzapalooza, if you don't want a $20 Domino like pizza with cash only option, overcrowded place.

It's a family run store which I figured would be better than average food. The mom was the nicest person who took our order. The sign outside said :"good food" so I made a u-turn and went back for lunch. After waiting 25 minutes to get a pulled pork sandwich and a turkey melt with 2 sides we got back on the road. Well I'm sorry, first of all the "authentic" Tennessee style was nothing more than dried out pork on a hamburger bun with bbq sauce on the side, better off with McyDee's McRib! The turkey sandwich was dried out left overs. I asked mom about the coleslaw. She said she made it herself. Very sad, mom. Better off with KFC slaw. The side of onion rings were cold, probably fried hours ago. We both had 2 bites of our sandwich's, threw out the slaw and ate the cold onion rings.I'm not a mean person and always give people the benefit of the doubt but it was terrible. Mom's smile was the only good thing at this establishment. And no rest room!Went to Chick-fil-a once we got out of the mountains!Parking: convenient

Funky place with a great lending library ? and good BBQ! The ribs were tasty and we really liked collards and black eyed peas! Very good coleslaw and cornbread! Worth a stop!

Stopped by today because they were the only BBQ open on the area - and so glad we did. Super friendly and very tasty... Sometimes bbq is loud with tons of onion, garlic, cumin. That can be great, but Smokin Js strikes a different balance the really let's you taste the meat and smoke. Sides are often overlooked, but were all delicious. Perfect cook and generous portions. Thanks!

Best BBQ for 100 miles!!! Totally worth a trek from afar or having a stopover if you’re headed through Rte 9 in VT. We are avid bbq fans and have been missing this kind of food for ages. So glad we found it! Sides were amazing. Pulled pork bbq cannot be beat. Sauces were divine. The setting was cute and ping pong and foozball to entertain you while you wait. Baked goods looked awesome but we were too full this time! Will definitely be coming back.

Potential… 1/2 rack of ribs were simply great, and the positives end there.Dry old cornbread in need of butter or better yet brushed with honey butter while it’s hot out of the oven.Baked beans, bland & desperately in need of salt.Potato salad, dreadful. Made with red potatoes that are too waxy for mayo based salad. Lacked seasoning and texture. Drenched in Mayo.Side of BBQ sauce was reminiscent of bottled Commercial sauce laden with corn syrup.

Sign outside says "Great Food". Our experience didn't meet that expectation. Turkey melt was almost stale white bread, turkey, cheese, bacon. That's it. It just looked pathetic and tasted blah. Drive a little further down the road and you'll find much better options.

First, if you are a BBQ snob, it's not going to be the best 'que you've ever had. It's Marlboro Vermont. But, it's solid. I stopped in the other night on my way home from a speaking gig in NY state on my way back to NH. I pulled in right as they are closing for the night, and a friendly woman invited me in anyway and said they'd make me a plate. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich which came with 2 sides (I got collards and black eyed peas) and cornbread. Of note, the vibe is decidedly laid back. Sort of like a Dead Show parking lot scene, in a good way. So the cornbread may not have made it into my container. That's cool, I'm doing the keto thing and wasn't planning on eating it anyway. I was also talking with the owner as she prepared my meal, so it was partly on me. That said, the pulled pork was great, with real pit flavor, not the liquid smoke or pellet taste that some pass off as authentic. The collards were some of the best I've ever had, and the black eyed peas (from the few spoonfuls I had as a treat) were basic but tasty. Cole slaw was delicious. I brought home a chocolate chip cookie for my daughter. She had a piece just a little bit ago and said it's great, but have you ever met a 4 year old who didn't like chocolate chip cookies?I'm giving them 5 stars. If I went in and judged food alone, it might have been slightly lower, but the owners are great people who value feeding those in the community. They made sure I didn't leave the parking lot hungry, and far too often in todays world, a restaurant owner wouldn't even be there at closing to say "Come on in, we'll feed you!"Swing by if you're passing through, grab a bite to eat, and share some great conversation with the family who owns it. Places like this are few and far between in todays world.

Not to far of a drive from downtown Brattleboro, 15+-3minutes pending traffic of course, go in the eve less traffic.Delightful platter, greens, pulled pork and Mac & cheese….the Mac is delicious! So creamy, combined it with my double order of greens and the pork to create a symphony of flavor….one thing I would say is maybe add a touch of paprika? Will help ENHANCE that Smokey flavor if you are going for that. If not then that’s fine this meal is still satisfactory and I will be back again! The cornbread also a welcome treat, it tastes like I hope everything is. Homemade and with care and heart. You are doing great! Lets get you more clients and keep you guys happy much like you keep your customers happy.

A taste of Tennessee-style BBQ up in Southern VT! This is a family that previously owned a restaurant in Wilmington about 10 years back. *Be warned - no public restroom access here because this is an old house they've taken over and the septic system is NOT set up for more than a family* They reopened a small "to go" joint and it's absolutely delicious and should not be passed up when driving up Route 9 from Brattleboro to Marlboro. This is family owned and operated and they are absolutely sweet people and the food is delicious. I got an authentic pulled pork sandwich, macaroni cheese ? and baked beans on the side, as well as a big fresh baked chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The owner was kind enough to slip in a small slice of cornbread ? too. Everything is made there and local residents also sell their honey, preserves and syrup n things here. They have a waiting area where you can play ping pong or read a book. The books ? are free to swap and trade out, in case you want to bring your authentic TN BBQ home with you and curl up and read a book by the ? fire. Definitely stop by and check it out. You won't be disappointed!

First I want to say it’s nice to have food back in Marlboro. The coleslaw was good. The side salad was fresh and had real bacon bits, which for me was a nice surprise. The baked beans were delicious and full of shredded pork. The right amount of sweet and tangy. The rib meat fell off the bone when I picked them up and were very good although maybe a touch dry, but nothing the bbq sauce didn’t fix. The only disappointment was the corn bread. Very dry. But not a deal breaker for me. I will definitely go back and I look forward to eating the brown in a bit.

Our CharlesWorks foliage trip into Vermont brought us here. Susan had the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and onion rings and I had the country fried steak with coleslaw and onion rings. Everything was great and the staff very friendly and helpful. Very reasonable pricing. Primarily a take out establishment but there are a couple tables so we ate there. No public restrooms.Warm friendly atmosphere. I recommend stopping in when driving this neck of Vermont.Parking: Plenty of parking in front of establishment.
