If you want to buy fabric, notions, and hardware to make work pants, men's shirts, hoodies, outerwear, underwear, totes or duffels or other bags of any kind, potholders, aprons, stuffed animals, or perhaps any solid black colored item, you will most likely be out of luck. Maybe you needed to stock up on sewing machine oil, bobbins, and a new belt? Also nope. What do they sell? Well, I'll tell you. There are hundreds of quilting cottons with directional prints of cutesy flowers, animals, jam jars, and whimsical art. There are also a few select high-quality yarns, a few garment fabrics, a few tools, invisible zippers in every color for some reason, and Eversewn sewing machines.Their classes are good, and I'd love to support a small business by getting my sewing supplies there, but they don't even sell canvas.

This was a fun shop to visit! Since we were on vacation, we didn’t purchase anything but our local friend that accompanied us was able to purchase a few items. Their selection was great and they were quite busy, so they’re doing something right. :) I’m currently learning to knit and plan on ordering from their website soon! Lots of great options for sewing, knitting, felt, etc.

Beautiful store in downtown Montpelier. The second level has a beautiful studio space for classes or to rent sewing machines. Store sells fabric, yarn, notions, etc. I've used this word twice already but seriously everything they sell is so beautiful! Really excited about this addition to the downtown area. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Just took a Beginners Sewing/Make a Tote Bag class... during a Saturday morning...We five students learned so much from our excellent teacher, Mary Margaret...We each left the class with a completed beautiful tote bag...and learned the basic important aspects of using a sewing machine.. Would definitely recommend sewing classes at Notion Fabric and Craft..and also, the sewing machines are available to rent...in the store on an hourly basis...

Walking into a craft stores, I've often felt intimidated. I've held onto the idea that I could never be a person who makes things! No one in my family sews, knits or needlepoints, and I hadn't been taught elsewhere. Yet, I've always wanted to create something with my hands. Fortunately, Mary Margaret, the owner of Notion Fabric & Craft encouraged me to confront my fear of the sewing machine! It doesn't hurt that her store is NOT overwhelming like many craft stores I've been to. Though she is fully stocked with beautiful fabrics, yarns, patterns, crafting accessories and tools, stepping inside Notion feels like you have been invited into someone's home studio. I have taken two of Mary Margaret's classes. The first one was the first time I ever touched a sewing machine. I left with a beautiful tote bag that I am able to boast that I made. In the second class, she taught us how to make a shirt. Mary Margaret is a wonderful, patient teacher who supports you in all of your mini-milestones and successes, as well as your...uh...learning opportunities along the way. I particularly appreciated her talk about clothing sizes in stores and how all of our bodies are unique and fluctuate from time to time. We can't be defined by someone else's size or idea of a size! The classroom upstairs is a bright and inviting community space. Mary Margaret offers tea and coffee for added coziness. Notion Fabric and Craft is a much needed addition to Montpelier for expert crafters and novices alike. Do yourself a favor and take a class taught by Mary Margaret!
