Not the best place to go to. We drove about a hour to go here and when we arrived we went inside to be greeted by fruit fly galore. The lady who was there was very standoffish she did pour me some wines that tasted pretty good so we bought 3 bottles and drove back. Opened the first bottle and it was rancid so we thought meh lets open another it happens same thing and then on our 3rd we opened and poured then was steams inside the bottle and again another rancid bottle. Not sure how to track as there are no dates or anything on the bottles. I do advise to stay away from this place.

We grow Marquette in MA and enjoy touring other vineyards that grow it. No two are ever alike. Dennis tends 6000 vines and a homey winery operation. The tasting room is literally a part of his house. He’s very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to pour you samples. I really like that he bulk ages his wines for 5 years or so before bottling. It really makes them distinctive. Nice views too.

Stunning scenery and amazing winery! The owner/winemaker, Dennis, was very inviting and was happy to give us a tasting of all his wines that he grows and makes on property. You will not be disappointed! What’s better than wine with a view and farm pets to hang out with while tasting!

Dennis was a very gracious host! We tasted many of the wines and walked out buying about 7 of our tasted choices. I was very impressed and am sorry they can't ship but it just gives me a reason to return.

Whaleback is like a Bed & Breakfast style experience. Situated in an older, but attractive farmhouse, Whaleback offers an experience, based around comfortably sitting on the porch and enjoying a friendly conversation. The owners, who are multi generational farmers work the land, share story behind how their wines came to be and some of what you can expect to taste. It's unpretentious, and feels like you're visiting a family, friend or cousin.Their tastings allow you to try whatever your palate is drawn to, or you can sample all of their offerings. Feel free to bring your own food including cheese and crackers, or sweet confections to pair with the wines. Our three favorites were the maple wine, the St. Croix, and the ruby red. The apple and peach wines are also very unique and flavorful. The winery specializes in cold-weather varietals, and whether you are a fan of sweet or dry wines you will likely find something that hits the spot.

Beautiful property, tasty samples, Interesting history! We’ve passed this business a million times and finally had a perfect opportunity to stop and partake. Pull into the business and if you’re lucky, you’ll meet Mark, their friendly, customer greeter. Cat. He’s a cat.We also learned that they rent out their barn for weddings and other events! Looked at some pictures and we were very impressed. There is no reason at all to give this place less than a 5 *. Unless Marks not doing his job.

We went last year for a tasting and ended up purchasing 14 total bottles. Two of them we finished quickly but the others we stored in our basement (proper storage, cool temps, no light exposure). Two weeks ago, we opened a bottle, only to find it completely rancid! We opened another - same thing. And another. 4 in total. Disgusted, we waited until today. We opened 4 new ones (one after another) and each was rancid. We noted that all of these rancid bottles have corks that look suspect, so possibly there was a bottling issue. We have not yet opened the remaining 4 but will do so within the next week; we are not hopeful, however... None of the bottles from this winery have production or expiration dates listed on the labels. We have wines from all over NYS which are both older and newer yet none of them has demonstrated this problem, despite identical storage conditions, so this is a function of this winery.Be warned!

Did the wine tasting after a short walk from the north end of Lake St. Catherine. We were pleasantly surprised by the wine quality. Whaleback also hosts weddings and other events in their barn. We walked out of the place with a case of wine and multiple varieties. It's worth a stop!

Stopped by Whaleback vineyard driving home from Burlington VT to NYC and so happy we did! Off the beaten path, you will do your wine tasting with Amy in their beautiful old home. We tried about 8 different wines varying in flavors (peach, honey, apple, sweet and dry red) and they're all made by the lovely couple who run the vineyard. Truly felt like "eating/drinking locally". They have a beautiful front porch overlooking their vineyard and barn. The best part was Mark and Pepper, their cat and dog who hung out with us while tasting! Thank you Amy!
