Upon entering the room the smell of musty mildew was not only evident it was unbearable. However, I was attending a memorial service and couldn’t find accommodation elsewhere at the last minute. So we brought incense to remove the stench.
My partner was actually having to use his inhaler because he couldn’t breathe .
I gave two stars because of location and the breakfast at the sweet spot was very good. Basically the rugs need replacing as I believe the smell is in the old rugs. Also the trash outside the rooms were never emptied and it looked trashy.
I will not be returning to this inn again.

We stayed with our two dogs for four nights at the Putney Inn from the 16th through the 19th of June, 2025. The room was pleasant and well-maintained, the owners/staff were friendly and attentive, and the environs well-kempt. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast provided was good. Located adjacent to the interstate, we were not disturbed by traffic noise as the trees and open space provided adequate buffer. We had ample space to walk the dogs, and their pet fee was reasonable at $20/per night for both dogs ( not each, but for the pair). I will have fond memories of staying here while enjoying exploring other parts of Vermont. We highly recommend this venue.

Room smelled apron entering so open up door turn on ac. The patio door track was so dirty i dont think it had been cleaned in years. Spider by ac. Just very dirty. Went to check out. Waffle maker hadn’t been turned on she said it would take 15 minutes to heat up then another 2-3 to make it..we walked out VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE PUTNEY INN. NO PLACE TO EAT..LAMPS WERE corroded on the bases..variety in need of a paint job

The front desk person was very nice. The room was quite clean, though the motel is a bit dated and smelled musty. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and need to be replaced

A nice room and very clean too...It looks kind of ordinary when we pulled up into the parking lot but we were pleasantly surprised when we entered our room. The lady who checked us in was very friendly. Right off the interstate but we couldn't hear it. They had great coffee in the breakfast area in the morning. We did not partake in the continental breakfast because we wanted to go to the Putney Food Co-op right around the corner from the motel, they have anything you could dream of there...We will definetly return to this motel if in the area!

The location is right of the main highway, so it's really convenient going of and on the roads. The exterior of the inn really needs a power wash and a fresh coat of bright paint... right now it's weathered red with cobwebs. I was on the second floor and entering the front door is a step up. I kept stubbing my toe and miss step going out. The room was OK but a little dark. I think the inn is trying to renovate because some of my room walls were painted but there was some patch work that was not completed. Breakfast was disappointing

Grateful the putney inn had vacancy as I was driving home with my kids. The room was spotless. The man working the front desk was kind and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was perfect and there looked to be a play area in the back. We didn't get to explore it but looked like a great option for other families.

Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable room. Very easy access - right off the Putney exit off of I-91. Seems like it would be a good place to stay to access the southern Vermont ski resorts without having to pay ski resort prices. I would certainly stay here again.

Great value and wonderfully located in the beautiful town of Putney!Nearby activities: The Gleanery, Mockingbird Tavern, and Putney Diner are all great places to enjoy a meal in this quiet town.

The room is clean, staff is friendly, and it’s reasonably priced.Noteworthy details: If you like fishing, sailing, canoe, or kayaking, I’d recommend. There’s 2 boat landings on the Connecticut River about a 1 minute drive away, or a 5 min walk past a cornfield. Plenty to setbacks on the river and good for seeing beavers and bald eagles. The Inn is halfway between the dams Bellows Falls and Vernon and you have 25 miles of river and many small estuaries.
