I recently opened an account with Bar Harbor Bank, and my experience has been less than satisfactory. Initially, the bank waited an entire month to accept my first deposit, which was already a significant inconvenience. To make matters worse, they charged me a service fee for having an account with a $0 balance—a balance that was a result of their delay in accepting my initial deposit. Despite my requests, they refused to refund this fee.
Furthermore, the bank refused to provide me with my account number. How do they expect me to make deposits without knowing my own account number? This lack of transparency is extremely frustrating.
After a few months of my initial deposit sitting untouched, I received a letter from the bank complaining about how my account was dormant. The irony of this situation is not lost on me.
I wish to note that I received truly exceptional service from the branch manager at their Rutland, VT location, who was incredibly understanding of the problem and offered me a bank check for the balance in my account. Due to these issues, my wife and I have decided to take our money elsewhere.

Received notice that my branch will be closing, and called to see where the next closest branch is located. On hold for 25 minutes so far so I wouldn't rate them very highly. And their repeating message about high call volume just annoyed the daylights out of me. This bank needs some training in customer service. Ah, for the days of the Otter Bank of Brandon; I loved that bank and then there was Lake Sunapee, no great shakes. and now the less than stellar Bar Harbor Bank that doesn't answer the phone. Oh, so Brandon and Quechee are closing as well as West Rutland. Why don't you just move out of Vermont altogether?
