The "head" nurse insulted the very essence of my humanity. She was cold, aggressive and insulted my dignity to the very core. I've suffered from addiction most of my life and am so grateful to have been sober for over 10 years now in part due to maintenance medication and finding peace with my spiritual beliefs and by following the 12 steps and changing the people and places that I allowed in my life. This journey has taught me such humility and a raw strength that I never believed I would be capable of. Through my journey of addiction, I've experienced being stigmatized and judged as any addict would understand , but instead of letting it harden me and fill me with bitterness, I try to respond with compassion for their indifference and ignorance to the disease of addiction. People often picture addicts as disheveled bums or criminals and thieves. The disease of addiction does not discriminate based on education, intelligence, or your financial status and social standing. I know this because I'm an educated woman who was raised with strong morals and taught to always practice kindness and respect towards myself and others. Our beloved cat was treated at BEV's for vehicular trauma resulting in a broken pelvic , displacement and several deep wounds resulting in surgical repair and he now has 3 drains and can't go outside for 4-6 weeks and has no use of his back kegs until his pelvis heals. This is so traumatic for me and my family and it's absolutely heartbreaking to see him unable to move and in such a state of pain. He is such a blessing in our lives just as my dog and second cat are. They are part of our family and bring such joy into our lives everyday. It's absolutely mind boggling the way we were treated. I will try and give you as short of a synopsis of our experience as I can. We were treated with indifference and coolness from the very moment we walked in by the head nurse and the surgeon. The surgeon only relaxed his cold bedside manner towards us when we were approved for Care Credit and alternatively said we'd prefer to pay the $2,000 bill in cash in order avoid the high interest rate and adding to our credit debt. We both probably appeared disheveled and were in lounge clothes and sweats as it was after midnight and this did not go unnoticed and without judgement from the staff. I'm in a same sex marriage and told the head nurse to please make sure that both my wife and myself together with both our phone numbers were listed. I told her this 3 different times as she never responded to my request. Upon going over our estimate, (the total final cost was almost 20% more) my wife noticed that her first name was correct with the wrong last name and her partner was listed as a man we've never heard of with the incorrect phone numbers and addresses. They changed the information and again, only one of us was listed on the account as a single person when the head nurse was told now for a fourth time that we were married and wished the account to reflect that with both our names. She for some reason never did this. This incident together with how we were being treated made us both uncomfortable. What conclusion am I to come to other than for some reason she was offended by our marital status and that we were gay? Upon getting home with our cat we realized they only gave us 3 days of pain medicine together with a sedative which was mind-boggling considered the severity of his injuries and that he literally can't not move without severe pain? We were told that he needed to remain calm and stationary in order to heal. Upon reading over his paperwork we also realized he has 3 drains that needed to be tended to 2x daily and removed after 3 days. This information was never discussed with us so I called that same day and the head nurse answered and was again, immediately cold and showed zero compassion never acknowledging that they were at fault, instead I was met with irritation. I explained that 3 days of pain and sedatives wasn't nearly enough to get him

I called this place because my dog suddenly started suffering. My vet was closing and I needed to take her in and they said they were at max capacity and they would not give any advice and said we could possibly bring her in late but they might not get to her. She ended up having low oxygen and needed oxygen therapy which our vet stayed late to do since we could not get into the Emergency Vet. My dog ended up there. Eventually we could finally get her in. She had zero calcium and was seizing and couldn't breathe. When we checked out, we had not totally decided on euthanasia the next day, but we were told that's what was gonna happen. They didn't send any drugs home with her, no pain medication and very short instructions. She has green crust in her nose and junk in her eyes, which weren't taken care of and weren't there when we brought her. We were told if we had a question to call anytime. When I called, they were short with me on the phone and said they would get someone to call me back. In fact, the person on the phone so don't you just going to euthanize her in the morning anyway? My dog was in immense pain and I had a question about a pain drug that I had at home and wanted to make sure it was OK to give it to her. I was told again that I would get a call back. Four hours later I called the hospital again and they were irritated at me. They finally called me at 1:30 AM after almost a full night of suffering. The bedside manner of some of these people there is ridiculous.

Our dog, Poppy (12.5 years), had been having fevers for the past ~4 weeks. Our local vet tried several treatments as the symptoms changed throughout that time. In the end, she was on prednisone to calm a mysterious infection. Christmas day and evening she appeared normal and happy. She was let out about midnight on 12/26 as she was panting (she usually ran warm as a "winter" dog, as I called her -- possibly part Husky with an undercoat -- but the prednisone causes panting as well). We didn't see her for a while so my daughter went looking for her. She was lying up against the fence and couldn't seem to move (as dogs are known to do when possibly near the end?), so my daughter carried her inside. I called our local vet who told me to call BEVS. They instructed us to bring her there immediately (about an hour away). My kids got her there at about 2:00 a.m. and I received a berating phone call because I'd been giving her prednisone for "so long." The person on the other end of the line spoke anxiously and angrily to me, and I believe it was the vet. Shouldn't she be calming me down, not making me feel guilty and alarmed? The estimate to diagnose her was $4,000 - $5,000, but they wouldn't do anything until we put down a 50% "deposit." My son paid with his debit card and left. I received a call at 8:00 a.m. that there was all kinds of "free (?)" fluid around her lungs and the prednisone might be masking something in her liver. She spoke very fast with lots of information that, I guess, I was expected to understand. At that point, the prognosis was very poor, and I wanted our dog home so we could say goodbye in our own home. They told me she wouldn't survive the trip and it wouldn't be kind to drive her home just to euthanize her, to which I agreed. They told me we needed to get there as soon as possible if we wanted to say goodbye. We all got in the car, including our other dog, Bean, and we were there in an hour. This is the part that makes me angriest. They knew she was declining quickly, but they had us waiting for about 20 minutes, first in the front waiting room and then in what I would call a "bereavement" room where they would bring her so we could say goodbye. While we were waiting for them to bring her to us, someone came to tell us that she was "degrading" quickly and they couldn't move her so we needed to hurry to see her in the oxygen chamber where she had been. By the time we got there, she had stopped breathing and there was no reaction on her face. Even though her heart was still beating, she was gone. THEY HAD US WAITING FOR 20 MINUTES THAT WE COULD HAVE SPENT WITH HER. They're the ones who told us how imperative it was for us to get there quickly, and then they made us wait, and we missed seeing her in her final minutes alive, albeit in very poor condition. To add insult to injury, I received a message the next day from someone very soft spoken giving their condolences, but reminding me that there's an outstanding balance. She added that there was no hurry in replying. Well, if there was no hurry, why are they calling me for money the next day? They charged for euthanasia even though they told us she passed on her own. Also, what they call a deposit is actually a down payment. I thought the deposit would be reversed once all treatment was complete and a payment plan or payment for the total bill was made. BEVS should offer some kind of hospice service. They knew at 2:00 a.m. how poorly Poppy was doing and had a good sense what the prognosis was. It would have been an amazing option if they could have sent her home with some dog-dose of morphine (or something similar) so Poppy could be comfortable and we could be with her. (But that's not exactly the most profitable option for them.) UPDATE: I went to pick up Poppy's ashes on January 3 and couldn't help airing my grievances to the receptionist. She seemed very empathetic and suggested I email the managers of the clinic. She told me to us

Seems like my son's dog has had to return an awful lot for the same condition. Big practice recently bought by large Corp.

My husband and I are beyond thrilled with our experience with the care we received for our cat Patrick. We moved to NNY 2.5 years ago with our 8 cats. Patrick was a special case who needed specialized surgery. Thankfully, our new vet in Canton, NY referred us to BEVS. It's been 6 months and Patrick has recovered very well and is a NEW cat (actually he's now a 6 year old kitten!) If it wasn't for Dr. Helmick's amazing expertise and his wonderful team Patrick would never have gotten to this point where he can enjoy life so thoroughly. We stand amazed and will be ever grateful. Thank you BEVS!

Dr. Helmick did a PTLO (knee tendon) surgery for my dog Babs. He explained everything to me in simple, thorough language, was empathetic, and kind. The surgery went very well and she's recovering amazingly well. The BEVS staff was super nice, answering my many questions and taking great care of Babs. This is a job where vets and vet assistants need to constantly deal with sad and worried pet owners, and these guys had an incredibly kind and patient manner. I would definitely go to BEVS in the future.

Facilities clean and well maintained. Registration staff and emergency triage very efficient and courteous. The triage process was very efficient, and the intake, by both the triage nurse and the Veterinarian was very pleasant. Although we knew that we were facing the worst, my wife and I felt that our patient is in very good hand, regardless the outcome. The end was as expected, but we felt out patient received proper attention. We whole heartedly thank the staff for their care and attention. (I just wish we would have more like that both for animals and Human patients.)

I wish I could give 10 stars. I had to put my 13 year old cat down a couple weeks ago - I'm 33 with no kids and this cat was my baby. From the first phone call until receiving his remains, their compassion has gone unmatched. Putting him to rest is one of the hardest things I have ever had to go through and BEVS and its people made the process as seamless as possible. I cannot thank you enough BEVS staff, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.

The only place open so I'll give a star for that out of gratitude. Rude rude rude staff doing intake info. I read a few review below that the intake seems so monotonous when there's an ..... emergency ... zero hustle or expediency on their part. Rude 10/10 care - thanks because we had no other place to go. What a monopoly

My cat of 15 years was sick. They would not take him unless they received $4000. They told me, "it could run up to $8000."I was told he needed a blood transfusion. I received a phone call in the middle of the night. They asked if it was ok to give him expired blood, old blood. Meaning, it most likely will not work. I put him down the next day. I feel that I was overcharged and my cat was unnecessary poked and prodded. Horrific experience. The only good part was the social worker.
