The service and atmosphere were both excellent. The food we ordered was good but my husband and I both thought the menu could be better. They offer small plates for sharing. The desserts were absolutely incredible though. We'll visit again to see how they mixup the menu.

Bring good books and someone to enjoy the peaceful nature with! Yes, it is a beautiful spot. Wonderful nature surrounding the inn, peaceful and secluded. And four stars ONLY for that reason. Definitely stay here if you want to stay in an old Vanderbilt mansion, with a wonderful old library, tea room and old fashioned sitting rooms, all with lake view. It is stunning. Why it should be more like 3 max: It is not really a hotel. Do not expect to get the value you would get at a traditional hotel. The staff is pleasant but not very professional. Yes, you *will* pay a lot if money. If you are all about the view, the surroundings etc - perfect. The rooms retain much of their original decorations and tea time is served every pm (minus real tea time sandwiches but this is not Windsor castle but an old mansion in the US OF A) Even sharing bathrooms at 400 USD a night can be okay. Not okay is not having your room made up, the shared bathrooms not cleaned and the shabby plumbing in the shared bathrooms. It is clear that the money goes toward the farm and the probably very costly maintenance of the building. They do leave welcome cheese made at the farm as a welcome present, and a poem with candy for the night. But that's not enough - it is a nice touch that does not compensate for other shortcomings. But the place is beautiful - and well worth staying there for a night or two if one is willing to make concessions and knows what to expect. If you have cash to throw around, do yourself a favor and get a room with en suite bathroom and pay those 600 dollars per night - treat yourself to a weekend in this amazing spot - but do not expect to have amenities like in a similar priced hotel. Ah yes, and bring your own drinks because the bar closes at 9 pm (!).Mostly older crowd - people are not here for nightlife.

I love Shelburne farms eating in a historic estate has been wonderful during the years I've lived in Vermont. The place has never disappointed till last night. The dishes are all Tapa sized. There are around 10 choices available. So they are assuming you'd order 30-40% of menu to make a meal. They recommended 3-4 to make a meal. I ordered lamb with wheatberries. Less than 2 oz of lamb loin, but the wheatbearies were bland. Basically a $27 appetizer, but called an entree? I usually don't review based on prices but their menu nor their switch to small plates only was not published on there website. The trout small plate was good but nothing special. We did not drink and had a $150 snack. Assuming you could find four things you want to try, plan on $150 a head plus drinks for a meal. We left there both lamenting we missed the old Shelburne Farms

Excellent trails and views including this waterfront point just west of the Coach Barn.

I absolutely loved staying here! We stayed at the vineyard cabin and it was very charming. It was clean and came with important essentials if you forgot yours at home. Some memorable moments were sitting on the hammock with my family and playing the games provided in the cabinets. The restaurant (run by the same owners of the cabin) was conveniently placed and had excellent food (risotto, bucatini, etc.) 5/5! Go here if you're heading to Vermont.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life. The interior is spectacular and the views of the lake are even more spectacular. Probably the single most beautiful place on the entire east coast. So tasteful and so special.

The barn where they make cheese needs to be better marked. No entrance sign. Pick a door. I went in to the one that said managers office. I got to where everything is. Bakery needs directions to also.Rooms: 5/5

Ughh. I know they just reopened but what a giant disappointment. For starters it was a $65 prix fixe which bring expectations. But to have only three entrees and then be told they were shared so the two of us had to share the same entree! Unusual and not welcome. For various reasons none appealed to both of us. One was lamb, which is I don't eat and my husband doesn't really care for, a coconut based vegetarian which sounded like a yawn and a chicken which neither of us usually eats out. We settled on the chicken which we both found oversalted, boring and with almost no sides. Not even up to a the standards of a hastily thrown together weeknight dinner. There was a good choice of starters, but the ones we chose were interesting but problematic. The burrata was ice cold instead of room temperature and the croutons with the beef tartare were way, way too salty for our taste. And the burrata had way to much going on, including a light dusting of quinoa (?). Service was pleasant and the room is lovely, but for a special birthday dinner it was a disaster. interesting wines and helpful advice. Oh ya there was dessert but totally forgettable.

One of my friends told me about this place. It is magnificent. Unfortunately I came during COVID so I was not able to enjoy a tour but I walked the grounds for miles. It's a beautiful place.

Beautiful yet a little /lot rustic but elegant. Gorgeous former Vanderbilt home. The staff is 5 star but understated, helpful and professional. Comfortable beds and lovely to gorgeous rooms. Fires in the fireplaces, unusual and creative menu in the dining room. We were all quite happy. Barns, bakery and cheesemaking on the expansive grounds.

Very lovely grounds, delicious meals for breakfast and dinner. Rooms could use some updating. Only one outlet in bathroom with mirror over sink so not lots of room to fix hair and makeup. No heat in rooms other than electric heater which we didn't use. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. We took the farm tour and enjoyed it.

terrible food. Great to visit if you bring your own sandwich. $36 for pork cooked dry and hard, with beans from a can to go with it. Another $36 for 4 scallops with acidic vinegar sauce. All four of us considered it inedible.
