Stopped in randomly. Great service. Nice warm fireplace. Excellent food. This will be on our rotation of "hey, let's drive 90 minutes to get dinner" places.

Breakfast is very good. Could use a new homefrie recipe. Service needs tweaking. Front door needs a bell to ring in the kitchen so patrons are not waiting long to be seated. The atmosphere is lovely. I would highly recommend!

Our group came in for breakfast this morning. I had French toast and bacon. The French toast was very good and the bacon could have been cooked a little more (I like my crispy). But overall all it was good.

I ordered the lobster roll and substituted sweet potato fries for French fries. It was all knuckle and claw meat which I love because it’s the most tender part of the lobster. The lobster itself was extremely fresh, the toasted bun was very fresh. The sweet potato fries were excellent. However, they use an herb called thyme mixed with the mayonnaise . I am a gourmet cook and I never seen thyme used with lobster or any of my seafood recipes for that matter. I do use fresh thyme but it’s with a couple of meat recipes I have and some soup recipes. First of all, it has a very distinctive taste. Personally, I don’t feel it goes well with lobster. I just like mayonnaise, diced, celery, and a hint of fresh lemon juice with my lobster. My husband ordered the Vermont bacon burger. He ordered it medium. It was dry not juicy , it was not pink at all and medium is supposed to be pink all the way through. It was well done. I make very juicy burgers at home with melted white American cheese (melts the best of all the cheeses) and sautéed mushrooms on top and cook it pink (medium) all the way through. So he knows what a great cheeseburger taste like ; so he was disappointed.

We are pleased to share our experience at NEH for our son’s wedding rehearsal dinner! Both Selma and Kurt were amazingly accommodating to work with as we planned this event! When the power went out we thought that the event would be a bust. However, Kurt, (owner and chef) managed to pull off cooking all of the 16 meals . We had everything from apps to desserts served by waitstaff using flashlights on their phones. Truly an event to remember! According to the 4- year old flower girl “This is so fun, just like camping!”In summary, the food was amazing, everyone was great to work with and it was still a wonderful event regardless of the weather !❤️Thank you New England House….Kurt and Selma and staff!John and Linda Rowell

The food was really good and the portions were quite ample. Hubby had the shrimp scampi and ate it all. I had the Onion soup, which was really good, as was the pot roast and root vegetable risotto, enough for another meal. The staff is very pleasant but there was no 'real' bartenders apparently, as two drinks we ordered (White Russian and an Irish Coffee) tasted so horrible we returned them (Kaluha was not used for the White Russian but the knock off brand). Once corrected, the drink was good. The inside of the restaurant is very dated and the front outside steps and landing are in desperate need of repair, as the wood is very rotted and an accident waiting to happen. We did bring this to our server's attention, as we don't want anyone to get hurt. Also, note that the menu listed on Trip Advisor is NOT the menu in the restaurant. Go to the restaurant's website for the actual menu, which is somewhat limited, IMO.

I don't understand why this place has a rating of only 4.1. it really should be a five. Atmosphere is early American, which is appropriate for this part of Vermont. The service is very good. Both the presentation and the taste of the food is what I would expect at a very expensive big city restaurant but much less expensive. I had the sweet corn and scallop risotto with crispy kale which was just amazing, never had anything like this and I would love to have it on a regular basis. My wife had the lobster roll which was also probably one of the best lobster rolls ever. My daughter had the linguini carbonara which, if not quite as good as the lobster roll and especially the sweet corn and scallop rosado, was excellent.

The food was very good except the clam chowder, and if you're from New England, you know good chowder. It had no clam chowder flavor and was artificially thickened. After tasting one bite, I told the wait staff and her manager that I didn't like it. After receiving the bill, it was still on there. I asked the manager if she could take it off because I didn't eat it. She said" will everyone else likes it" and offered to take half off. I told her I've never been to a restaurant that if you don't like something they didn't take it off. She did so begrudgingly. It's unfortunate that the service level was unacceptable, because the food was decent.

Went on a Saturday night July 1st, called ahead for a reservation, no problem. Got there and parked and right off the bat you know your going to have a Reto, older style dinner experience. Seated pretty much right away, kinda seemed understaffed, but really nice people. Ordered two apps, two main dishes and two specialty drinks. Food was good, drinks were very good and again very pleasant staff. Total bill 83.00 not including the tip we gave. The building vibe, outdated, but it has that old world mountain retreat vibe going on. We had fun

Worth a try! :) Nothing special enough for us to return. If you like quiet dining in old fashion building, this is a place to go!
