I recently booked a child's haircut for my 4 year old at O'Briens. After speaking with two different individuals about the appointment by phone we drove 30 minutes for the cut, only to be told that they could not accommodate children under the age of 7 when we arrived. This information is not shared on their website, nor was it disclosed by the individuals I spoke to by phone when I booked the appointment. I'm appalled by the lack of communication and disregard for a potential customer's time. I have utilized Aveda Institutes in New York and DC for years and have only been thrilled with the skill and communication of the students and staff. O'Briens in Williston does not measure up.

I wish they had a 6-Star rating to give to places, because this clinic definitely deserves it! Its a hidden gem. Great service at an amazing price. This was my second time going to the clinic on 7/27/23 and it was better than my first time earlier in the year. I knew the stylist I had previously worked with had graduated, so I was ready to be taken care of by a new stylist-in-training.When I arrived I was greeted by Joel. There was an overall excitement in the clinic with the smiles on faces of everyone. Joel not only had an infectious smile, but he added a bubbly flair to make me comfortable with him within the first few minutes of being there. He explained things as he went along. He explained the different types of hair products and suggested shampoo and conditioner that would support my type of hair. He clarified on multiple occasions if the amount the was looking to cut what I was looking for. On a couple of times I said I wanted more cut, but he explained why he was suggesting "let's cut it a little bit longer"...I can always cut more off, but I don't think you'd like me to try to glue the pieces back on. I'm glad I listened to his suggestions, my cut came out exactly what I was looking for.I appreciated being in a place with a collegial atmosphere amongst the instructors and students. I appreciated to have Joel treat me as though I was most important person in that room. When guidance or support was needed, either Joel or the other student introduce themselves to me and then asking if it was okay to offer their input to Joel.I felt everyone wanted each other to succeed.I know I walked out of the clinic feeling really good with the information on how to better take care of my hair but I loved my 'new-do."I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this clinic to anyone. I can't wait to go back!~"Jill"~

I went to O'Brien's Aveda for the first time to obtain skinny platinum highlights (I also received a trim.) The student was a conscientious, sweet young woman who actively sought clarification and direction-I would give her 5 stars!Unfortunately, when I got home there were no highlights in my hair...see photo. The reason why I won't return to O'Brien's is that when the time came to pay...there was quite a discrepancy in fees advertised and the fees charged. On the website, partial highlights are listed as $40+ for my short hair. That is what I normally spend in a salon. I was charged $60 for the partial highlights. The woman at the register was exceptionally rude and went on about bowls and toner. I'm not a beautician and I don't know (nor do I care) about mixing chemicals and "bowls". I just want transparency about costs. And not transparent highights. When I got home, besides the invisible highlights, I found I was charged an additional $2. Again, if you're not up front about costs, you look shady.

I got a great haircut that looked just the way I wanted, from a delightful stylist. Because I'm a veteran, my haircut was free! WOW!

I’ve been going to this salon for 6 years. I have never had a bad experience until this past Friday. I went in to have my hair colored for my wedding that was on Saturday and the INSTRUCTOR went through my hair and said I had lice then tried to tell me lice like dirty hair (I wash my hair once a week). I left in tears and had my mother go through my hair. She found nothing. I then went to a different salon where the stylist and the manager went through my hair and they found nothing either. I had pretty bad dandruff until the stylist at the different salon washed my hair. Clearly the instructor at O’Briens Aveda Institute needs to be re-educated on what head lice looks like and the type of hair they like. She stated they had also denied three other people due to head lice that week. They just lost a loyal client who only had good things to say about them.

I'm wondering if anyone would be satisfied walking out of an all over 2 color foil appintment looking like this? See pics. I asked for black and ash blond medium thickness streaks and wound up with an ugly brown that will fade to red and blond that didn't take or cover the grey at all. On top of it, the roots weren't colored so it looks like its grown out by at least 1 month The judgment started as soon as I walked in the door. I arrived at 8:58 am for a 9 am appt and the door was locked, even though there were 5 people behind the counter near the door, including an instructor at the register. I sat on the bench outside the door for a few minutes and when someone unlocked the door, they opened it slightly, then walked away instead of welcoming me in. I went up to the counter and was ignored by all, who were talking amongst themselves, so I sat on the bench inside until the instructor mumbled my name. I looked at her and said 'Yes' unsure if I should approach. She motioned me over with a curled pointer finger and she put a sheet of paper on the counter asking me to sign it. It was a disclaimer of some sort. After I signed it the student - who is set to graduate ina few weeks - asked me to follow her. I described the above and asked to look at the color swatches for both colors. She only bothered to bring a couple rings of color swatches at first - none of which had the colors I was looking for and used before. So that ended up being a hassle trying to get her to bring out the rest. After she did she told me she was going to bring her instructor over, who would have to look at and approve them anyway. The instructor was short with long blond curly hair. I could see by the smirk on her face and eye roll as she approached that things were going to go badly. In the end I agreed to let them select the dark and light colors from the swatches I thought matched the closest. It wasn't even close. The student barely talked to me and was taking small strands of hair instead of an amount that would provide streaks. I told her I didn't want small streaks that would blend together too much. I couldn't see this at first because she had the chair turned away from the mirror and started with the back of my head. When she was working on the sides, she was brushing the color in an UPWARD direction closer to the roots - which I have never seen before. Her instructor later referred to that as 'feathering.' Yeah right. The instructor never checked in on us although she later claimed she did twice, which was a flat out lie. It felt as though they did this on purpose and decided early on they weren't going to give me what I wanted. The student never attempted to make small talk and took an additional 10 minutes longer to check on my hair, than what she told me at first it needed. When she came back she didn't bother to open 1 foil to see if the color took. I asked her if she wanted to check one and she said 'no, 35 minutes is enough. At the sink she asked the instructor if she was to tone it and was told no. She didn't fully scrub the color out on the front sides of my face and head and didn't rinse the shampoo out on the lower and side part of my head. Then when blow drying it she used a COMB and was putting the dryer heat directly on my hair. I asked her not to because I knew it would completely dry out my hair. Then she switched to using her plastic fingernails to rake through my hair in a downward direction in an attempt to dry it. So gross. Never asked how I wanted it styled. It started to irritate my scalp so I again had to ask her to stop and use a brush. She left it completely flat, half dry, then wanted to know where I wanted the part. I told her to forget it. She told me she would meet me at the counter but had her instructor come out and hid in their office. I let the instructor know I wasn't happy with my hair and the treatment I got. She knew she had no grounds to charge me, with the grey clearly visible and the different shades my hair took on due to th

A hidden gem! I needed my first post-Covid haircut, and somehow this place popped up on my feed. Alexis, the student who cut my hair, was very knowledgeable and very professional. There were instructors discreetly supporting her. I’m very happy with the results, thrilled with the price, and enjoyed being in an upbeat learning environment. I’ll definitely become a regular.

I have been going to Aveda Institute for my hair and have never had a bad experience. The students do wonderful jobs at listening to how you would like your hair styled and treated. They are extremely compensation about making sure you walk out happy and have the teacher check their work. Isabel did a fantastic job with treating my hair and cutting it. Highly recommend going here.

Isabel was fantastic. She took great care in matching my natural hair color and styling my hair how I like it. I let her run with it and she did great. The atmosphere here is very relaxing and the process is professional and quick. I highly recommend coming here for a style and cut.

I appreciate that this is a teaching school and didn't expect perfection but for $20 (which is more expensive than any of the other professional nail salons nearby) it was a terrible manicure and took 1.5 hours. Polish was clumpy, no drying machine, students were wearing masks under their noses. Not a good experience at all.

I thought I would take a chance and go to this school to have a balayage done and my A-Line cut fixed. Instead of getting the hair cut and color I wanted, I walked out with a completely uneven cut, and multicolored choppy highlights that made me feel like a calico cat to be completely honest. Spent over $100 there with no refund, and the fact the teacher aloud me to walk out of the salon like that, certainly didn't make me trust them to touch my hair again. REGARDLESS of their offer to fix it. Seeing I was worked on by a senior, who is leaving the salon in less than two months, I wouldn't put much confidence in going there and expecting to get what you want. Maybe basic things are taught, but for them to have looked at the reference picture multiple times, I wouldn't trust them with much. Last picture was the reference picture. To clarify, I asked for balayage, not chunky highlights. Also, with the info I gave them about the previous color in my hair, they should have done at least one if not two test strands before applying bleach and putting it in foils..... basic salon knowledge.

I will NEVER go to this place again!!!!! When I say trim that is what I want NOT 4 inches taken off and then you remove from here what I initially put on on because you only want people to see 5 stars. How many other posts have you removed? SMH
