As a lover of the arts, it has been incredibly sad to see the demise of so many galleries, but if it is a case of survival of the fittest, Gallery on the Green certainly deserves to survive. It is housed in a beautiful old house and you feel the hominess as you walk though the multiple rooms of art. It has mainly oil paintings, most of them in a realist or semi-impressionist style. There are many landscapes, and some still life and portraits. One room contains oil paintings by Chip Evans, who was painting yet another lovely painting of a local house while I visited. His wife, Opal Evans, showed me some of the highlights of their collection. She has a deep knowledge of art and the artists they display, and couldn't be more gracious. They also have a wonderful dog named Bear who is up there in the years and lies so quietly on the floor that you might not notice him. The quality of the art is truly impressive, and the prices very reasonably given the quality. There is no question that this is a gallery that should not just survive, but should flourish. It is an asset to any community, and may well become one of your favorites should you walk through its door.

Beautiful and big gallery displaying art from different local, very talented artists. The owner is one of the artists displaying his work there. His wife was very welcoming and definitely made our visit to Woodstock more memorable. Very inspiring, worth a visit!

This is a quit fine gallery filled with the work of local artists. Most of the work is by artists who paint, including the owner of the gallery. I always look for photography and on my visit the work of one photographer was there to be viewed. It was quite good work. The style of the local artists ranges widely, but all of the work in the gallery was clearly done by folks with talent. Worth a visit and one of the better things to do along the main drag in Woodstock.

Wide range of prices and paintings with Vermont themes. Staff were helpful, accommodating, and not at all pushy.

When in Woodstock, I wandered into this gallery which seemed quaint and perfect. I bought a very delicate sculpture of trees made of copper. Since I was leery of bringing it home with me on the plane and did not want it to bend, I paid a fair amount for shipping and handling. I understood that the shipping itself was not near the amount charged and that I was paying for handling. I was very unpleasantly surprised when I received this note along with the sculpture which was intentionally BENT TO FIT INTO THE SHIPPING BOX: "the first two top branches are bent so the trees will fit the box. Just 'undbend' them & they will be fine." I had not planned on contributing to arranging the art work myself. I had told the salesperson, who I believe is a co-owner, that I plan on being back in Woodstock at some time in the future. I will NOT go back to this gallery and suggest that no one buy any art from it that needs shipping.
