“On our New England fall foliage 2 week trip, we started in Boston and drove up the east coast to Acadia national park and then drove south through other states and stays on our way back to Boston. When booking lodging, most of the places we stayed were quaint inns. When looking in Woodstock I found this motel and was very intrigued! It was in the outskirts of town, saying it was in a quiet area along the river without the street noise and business of the town itself. And it was a small retro motel complex. The pictures of the retro furnishings looked fun and very different from anywhere else we’d stayed. Plus our room had a microwave, coffee maker, and very small retro red fridge. None of the many other places we’d stayed in our journey had any of these things. As the time f our arrival approached we got several notifications saying this was an Ohana property (a chain) but the word meant “family” in Hawaiian and that’s how they planned to treat us. We arrived late at night. There was no front desk. We had a keyless entry to our room which was ok. We were also advised there would be no housekeeping during our 3 day stay. But there was a community room which was amazing. Walk in room with a small ice maker, and 2 rooms of cabinets and drawers with extra towels, toiletries, assorted plastic plate ware, free snacks, and a large cabinet of what seemed to be guests left over condiments and non perishables which were all available to take as you needed. Plus since this was a pet welcoming motel as well there was dog food, and bowls to use. There was even a drawer of small tools. When I needed a pair of scissors I sent my husband on a search. All he could find was a sewing kit but it indeed had a pair of scissors! It was a very fun and funky out of the ordinary place to stay out of the norm though weird to never be in contact with a real staff person though they left us a contact number and said they’d respond asap. Our last day we had some unopened cheese and other unused food products we didn’t want to waste. The housecleaning man was coming to our room as we were packing and he said he’d take these items to add to the others in the community room. As to the river and quietness—not so much. There were Adirondack chairs on the grassy front lawn across the street from the river which you couldn’t see due to high brush. And in further look the river was a rock bed due to drought. And the main 2 lane highway ran right in front of us. We heard highway noise, though not unbearable, all night. BUT all in all this is a super, out of the way, unusual, clean, comfortable, and unusual place to stay. Thumbs up!”
