All banfield’s in general are ok for normal scheduled check ups. It’s when you have a something behind that the services falter. No matter how long you’ve been a banfield member, if they don’t have “availability,” they will not try to make 15 minutes to look at your dog to see if maybe it’s recommended to go to an emergency vet or likely something minor. And to be fair, if I have a scheduled appointment, and yes I value my time and things going per the schedule. If someone came in with a sick dog, I’d be ok waiting an additional 15-20 minutes so the sick dog can get looked at. I would like to think it would not happen often. While I have been with banfield for over 12 years, and they claim to really care about my pet… it seems the caring is by appointment only.

They take such good care of my boy. Their front desk and medical staff are extremely kind and communicative. I feel confident leaving my dog here for drop-off appointments.

Last week Monday (7/19) was the last day I took my dog to this clinic. My appt for a dental cleaning to address an abbesses was scheduled from my last visit here in May. The day of the surgery arrives, 7:20am drop off and I’d shared recent concerns of drainage in right nostril which is on the side that is in question of infection. I received a call from Banfield couple of hours later only tell me they read the patients chart and that they didn’t prepare the allotted time necessary for his surgery. Furthermore, there was a recommendation to have the surgery done at another clinic that specializes in complex/sensitive cases. A clinic closer to me in fact! Dr. Bond apologized and said they hadn’t done anything and that there was no charge but that she would address the infection he has with antibiotics. They referred me to the clinic with such reassurance that I’d get in fairly quickly. I was relieved. I called said clinic only to find out they couldn’t take my sick dog until mid August. This is where I became upset + furious.I’ve waited a month for this surgery, not only that I had to reschedule the appt for 7/19, they had a month to plan, prepare, or even inform me of the Vets recommendation to another clinic! This wasn’t communicated to me at all during my last appt nor the days up to the surgery. The blatant lack of communication within the team, vet care, and disregard for the families time is truly frustrating and irresponsible. You’d think they’d accommodate me considering this was on them and their poor animal care. Nope. They threw us to another clinic that had no availability. I live in Woodbridge, so I don’t live close. When I arrived to Banfield to pick my dog and meds they had to audacity to charge me for consultation. Absolutely not! With conviction in my voice, I DECLINED the consultation charge and reminding the front desk person of the inconvenience, poor care, and the doctor saying there’s no charge bc there were no services done, and not providing me with another clinic since the first one didn’t have availability. She went to the back + returned with the meds and 2 new referrals. I paid for the meds and took the information and thanked her. I will NOT be returning to Banfield Pet Hospital Hilltop ever again or any Banfield location for that matter. The quality of care of this clinic has gone down since my sister worked here. Support your local small veterinary clinics. They actually care about your animals not these large money hungry corporations.

Stay away from these people. They provide very poor care; they consult in their lobby after separating family from the pet. Never do they express whether they care; very transactional.

Dr. Maxey & Dr. Portillo have saved my dogs life. They both are very thorough with wellness checks and advice on how to control environmental allergies. Dr Maxey diagnosed my dog with cancer, she was very comforting when it came to life expectancy and next steps. I can't thank Banfield enough for helping my family. All of my dogs have been to this Banfield and have/had amazing lives. Thank you Dr. Maxey and Dr. Portillo ❤️

This place has completely changed for worse post covid. All of the comments about difficulties with scheduling appointments and issues with the clinic are unfortunately spot on. It's a shame because this vet is so convenient given their location. Please get your calendar under control, consider returning to your previous ways of doing business and letting owners be with their pets during visits (don't use COVID as an excuse to not be a personable and reliable clinic).

Dr. Bond is amazing, and so is her vet tech, i didn't catch her name. They both are so friendly and nice, something hard to find in today's vet world. Dr. Bond actually picked up our kitty's heart murmur, something no one else took the time to recognize in our 6 years here in the DMV. I hope she stays as there seems to be a high turnover in vets lately. Definitely worth the trek from DC. Thank you tons, Dr. Bond!

Banfield is a really affordable option for pet care with friendly staff, however, it is challenging to get an appointment when in need. We have had to go to different vet clinics for various illnesses (which is fine) but when on a wellness plan and not being able to utilize it can be frustrating.

We have been bringing dogs to Banfield for years. Since Covid this place has changed. You cannot get your sick animal seen. You can schedule an appointment a month out for an “illness or injury”. They will simply tell you to go to the regional emergency room (which is also always full - would not see any animals for the last three days). . They are no longer really a “hospital” and should simply advertise as a well-pet visit clinic. I am sure in the five days I have tried to get my very sick dog seen by tone they have happily signed up dozens of clients for their wellness plan - most assuming it meant they would be able to receive vet services.

Been using Banfield for years, but they seem to be getting worse and worse. The vets don't even come out and talk with you after they have your pet all day. Then you pay in advance for medication, and they don't want to give it to you. It's time for me to start looking for other care for my pets. Their insurance doesn't even cover routine visits anymore. There are much better plans out there now. They lost my business. Paul S.
