It's nice, but the indoor pickleball court lines look like an electronic circutboard and are impossible to follow. I just guess and hit the ball to where I think it's safe.

The facility is good but information on the website isn't accurate about available programs and they'll close entire rooms for private events with absolutely no communication. For example, the Lil Gymmies "class" doesn't say it's only certain weekends a month. Even worse, the front desk has twice in the past 4 visits provided inaccurate information by phone about room availability due to private events. On those occasions I went to the to the center with my toddler only to discover the facilities I wanted to use were closed to the public. Give me a break. Put availability on the website or at least get it right when asked directly by phone.I want to support this rec center, but they are totally incapable of clearly communicating what is open on any given day.A shame.

Lovely center! We went to check out the soft playroom late on a weekday afternoon. It was smaller than I expected but my daughter was the only one there and she enjoyed herself. Friendly staff, and very clean. Parking was easy. I'd like to come back and check out the pool next time.

The pool is beautiful and the staff is friendly. Note that while the Center opens at 9, the pool opens at 10.

Basketball Court is free to residents in Old Town, Alexandria. Recreation center is kept clean and the staff are very friendly!

Although it was fun to play volleyball here, the courts were too tight to serve on one side and also they're right next to each other so we couldn't run to get the ball if it was hit out.

Charles Houston is a wonderful, fairly new facility with an excellent location just north of Old Town in Alexandria. I meet with a community service group there each week and the staff have been so nice, helpful, and accommodating. The room we use is perfect with an HDTV to improve our Zoom experience, it is always clean, it has its own bathroom, and it is a welcoming place with floor-to-ceiling windows on two walls. The center in general is airy and light and just a pleasant place to spend time

I've visited a couple of times for meetings and as someone that rarely is inside a rec center I was impressed. As a historian I loved the amount of history found inside the rec, from the name outside to the entrance to the Alexandria African American Hall of Fame. Charles Houston is an unsung hero in the legal fight for equality in the U.S. All of these elements are lasting tributes to the Parker-Gray community where the rec lies. It is spacious, state-of-the-art and has a lot to offer to everyone, of all ages. There is a parking lot in the back of the building the WiFi doesn't require a password to connect. So you can visit to exercise, meet friends or even learn about the Black history as the city and landscape change, note the Ramsey Homes across the street were demolished in late 2018.
