I can't say enough about the employees at this bank in Altavista, VA. I have received nothing but courteous service and help from them over the years. My previous bank used to always make mistakes in their favor and try to charge me fees for things that were fake and false. Not so at this bank and it is a relief not to have to watch every move they make immediately because it may be false. It's been a real pleasure banking here and they feel like family.

My visit to this branch was not pleasant. Frieda Mattox was unwilling to provide me with the proper help I needed, not sure what it was based on. it might be race based.

This bank is behind in banking by 10 years. If you are a millennial or if you have banked at a bank such as Chase, BOA, Wells Fargo, or even Bb&t, you will have nothing but frustrations with the lack of technology. The bankers have a lack of product knowledge. For example; I asked how long online statements go back. The response “I don't know, a year? I can get them for you but it's $25.00 an hour†Most banks go back 7 years on online banking for free. By the way, you have to do everything the old fashioned way by calling the branch for support questions and the branch cannot answer because product knowledge isn't taught apparently. You'd think there would be an online support customer service you could at least call-nope. There is a form that you can submit and they'll get back to you in 2 days...who knows if you will get a response. Their online banking has no mobile app, you can't deposit checks via online, their atm's don't take cash and check deposits. In addition to that, their fees are higher. If you lose safe deposit keys the drill fee totals up to 375.00 (they charge separate for drill fee and keys) Wells Fargo charges 125.00 for drill and keys. I would never have a safe deposit box for myself, but because I am assisting a person with their accounts and they deem the box necessary. I don't foresee bank of the James making it in the future as they aren't technologically advanced. I give them 20 years max unless they turn it around and get with the times.

Love it! Cant believe the last guy called the ATM the "Auntie Em" and said they "dont never open on Saturday". Guess we're not in Kansas anymore. Best bank I've ever dealt with and love the attention they pay to me.
