Ayers has things that are very hard to find. It’s a general store that has gardening, sewing, cooking, plumbing, painting, decorating, school supplies, and more. I have shopped at Ayers since the 1950s.

I can’t believe I bought anything from here. I’m irritated that they were selling potted 3 way plastic pots $9.99! I had to pick up some items from the Dollar Tree and guess what- the same 3 way potted plant set up, $1.25 but Ayer’s charging $9.99 for the same item. Not cool

I wanted to like this store as it’s convenient to where I live, but every time I’ve visited so far, I find the customer service to be lacking and cold. I always try to support local businesses, but I’ll be going to a different hardware store to do that next time.

This place is the best! I’ve never had a bad experience here, the staff are super friendly and their prices are insane. They always get the most random assortment of stuff, and you can always find reliable hardware staples as well. I love coming in here just to look around.

Needed a watch battery replaced for a no-name watch. Technician removed the watch back, found the proper battery and replaced it.

You want it - they have it. I have yet to be unable to find the item I need, be it hardware, tools, seasonal item, etc, The jewel of Westover.

Ayers is an old-school hardware store that is just a joy to shop it with a little bit of every thing. I have used them for over 20+ years. Unlike the big box stores you can buy just one of something and not a whole box.

This is a magical place. A hardware and variety store that has defied modernity. With everything from tools and toys, plant seeds and school supplies, housewares, candy and clothing. We used to live nearby and as far as I can tell, not a thing has changed in 45 years. Like something from the cover of The Saturday Evening Post. I was passing by yesterday on a brief trip to Washington DC and stopped to put my head through the door. The smell of the place was like the Madeleine of Proust, a macedoine of must and machine oil, provoking memories of past times. This is the sort of establishment that shouldn’t exist anymore in a country of Walmart and Costco, yet it survives, still in family ownership. Let us hope it will be eternal.

Handy store for most basic hardware needs and some household items you just can't find anywhere else.

I came into Ayers looking for a hardware store, but I was most pleasantly surprised by the 'variety' part of the name! This is a place where you can find a little bit of everything and maybe exactly what you need. From home decor to cleaning products to kid items and more. It feels somewhat like a throwback to the pre-Amazon era, where you'd just go into a store and get items based on that day's inventory. Staples are always in stock, but you don't know exactly what you'll find from seasonal items. You need to trust that the store management is curating the selection that customers want. Based on the Yelp reviews, Ayers is clearly doing that. I'll plan to come back for future hardware needs, too, since the service is more personalized than at a typical big-box store.
