This is the worst Hertz, don't rent with them! We checked in and arrived at midnight to pick up our car from the airport, but were told everyone had left home and the gates were closed. My poor little baby and kids were left freezing outside. No courtesy call or email to let us know. No one ever picks up the phone. All you hear is leave a VM. Very unprofessional and rude counter girl. Contactless 24/7 pick up, my as$! So disappointed in Hertz. I've learned my lesson and will never rent here again.

This is the worst car rental place and judging by the reviews here, I am not alone in feeling that way. My review is for Hertz, but it might as well be for Dollar & Thrifty too because they share the same roof at this DCA airport location. I arrived at the counter and was told by the guy that they have no gas car left and I have to accept an EV. For those of you that don't know, to be on business travel and be handed an EV is like being handed a puppy and told to take care of it for the next few days in a strange town. It is not a trivial matter to learn about charging stations, compatible connectors, costs, availability, etc. while you're trying to navigate a new city. Oh, and everything requires an app and an account otherwise you're screwed. There's absolutely no assistance from Hertz with any of this except a note in the car that says they will bill you $35 if you return it empty. Just say NO to these clowns and book with someone else.

(On the way to our grandmothers visitation) When we arrived at hertz, we had to get on the phone with customer service to move the prepaid reservation to the card we had there (prepaid was done by a family member) and then after dealing with that for 30 minutes we go out to the lot to get our car and are faced with another 20-30 minute wait on a sedan. They then direct us to a full size minivan and we were reluctant but took it and of course it was the only unregistered car in the whole parking lot. We were asked at the gate to step outside the vehicle so they could get us another. They pull up in a black vw sedan and finally let us leave. Not even 30 minutes into our drive into DC the transmission starts messing up and not shifting correctly. We had cars blowing their horns and moving around us while we tried to figure out what was wrong. Hertz did comp our gas which was nice but after all of that we ended up being 40 minutes late to the visitation of our family member. It was a very stressful experience would not recommend.

Horribly rude people who work here. Hidden deposits that are not told until you get there. $500 to be exact. The lady who helped us was extremely rude and short, she then got mad and got up from the counter and told us she was not going to help us. Also had to wait almost an hour before we could get our car. Will never use this company again. Horrible horrible experience when you are from out of state and have this type of service.

Very bad experience renting a car in Oct 2023. I was given a knowingly bad electric car which stopped in middle of nowhere due to battery running out( even though it showed 100 miles remaining). After towing the car on my own charges ( which was lot more than car rental bill), I reached a charging station but car charging was messed up. It would charge at rate of 1 % for 1 min for even 65 KW chargers. Spent more than 50 % time waiting for tow truck or at electric charging station and never reached the destination as a result. While returning, I told the Hertz personnel and they said they knew my rental electric car had issues. Why give it to me in first place? Tried calling customer service and they were very rude. Never taking a car from them again. Terrible experience of car and customer service. Please take a electric car from Hertz at your own risk.

For those who wanted to rent EV here because of the cheap price, DON’T! They charge the EV to 100% before you rent and there is no EV charger in/close to the parking lot. So the additional 35$ electric fuel fee is guaranteed. Otherwise, the rent and return processes were smooth.

This is the second experience in a-row with Hertz (different airports) that I arrived at the counter on-time and they did not have a car available. The first was a last minute trip, so I chalked it up to that, but this particular reservation I booked months ago. This is obviously not an airport-specific problem -- this is a Hertz problem. Traveling is stressful enough that I shouldn't have to worry about if Hertz is actually going to honor a reservation I booked forever ago -- I will just use one of the many other options moving forward and suggest you do the same. The only reason I am giving this two stars was the employees were professional and dealt with the situation as well as you could expect. However, I suspect it wasn't their first time dealing with it which is exactly the issue.

My wallet was left in this car and two hours after returning the vehicle I was trying to retrieve my wallet. Nobody could help me out.. I was told to do the online form. I did the online form, it was thrown out twice automatically with their system. Third time it was submitted under the name for the car rental that was used. I lost my wallet on a Friday and was flying out Saturday. I could not get the help I needed to get this item before not only me flying out, but also my girlfriend flying out two days after, on a Monday. Not only was this process terrible, they money that I had in my wallet was taken also. I have left voicemails to talk to anyone about this situation but never got contacted back. Hertz car rental here I would never recommend to anyone.Also with the car, there was a leak with the tire. They deliberately gave a car with a tire leak, they just over pressurized the tire to compensate for the leak, but the leak was faster than they expected so we also had to go out of our way half Han hour one way to service this tire.

Horrible. Had a reservation and Presidents Circle and arrived and there are no cars. When asked about the "Car Available Guarantee" the agent said I am guaranteed a car but there is no guarantee when we will get the car. Avoid this rental company at DCA at all costs.

Went to this location 8/28. Started smoothly rented a Telsla and got in pretty quickly little less then 30 min. Trouble started at exit gate. Wife card not accepted. Even though the credit card given had wife’s name. I had the digital card in apple wallet. So I could prove credit card was connected to me. Operations manager younger ethnic male. He said he was going to get into car with me so we could go around to change name on reservation at the computer to wife’s name. We get out of car and he says “he thought my wife was in the car with me” he said that he could not do anything without her present. The manger knew no one was in the car with me. After giving him some choice words. I took the car back to the gate to pay with credit card. Once I got to the gate he blocked me in with cones. Told me I did not have money to rent the car. Cool, took my bags out of car and walked away. Once I got to other rental car establishment. I realized I took the key. When I walked back to give key back to another manager on duty. Operations manager informed me he calling the police. Because I stole the key. Police came I explained my side and they let me be. I will NEVER come back to Hertz. I travel for work I pick up and drop off once a week. Never have I seen this level of unprofessional behavior at a car rental. Rent from somewhere else if possible.

We rented an electric car at Hertz at Dulles airport. Unfortunately the hotel we were staying at did not have charging stations. We called Hertz corporate and they directed us to take it back to the nearest Hertz location, which was Reagan airport, and were informed that there would be a vehicle waiting. Again, unfortunately there was not. In fact, they were out of cars and had a 3 1/2 hour, at the least, waiting list. This locations phones were down and they were scrambling to satisfy the customers they had. The manager on shift, was completely professional. However, after several attempts of doing her level best to rectify not only our situation, but the issues of many many others. It was clear that Hertz Corporate had failed this manager and her location to such a level of such systemic failure that when I spoke to her and indicated that we understood her position and empathized with her situation that she became emotional and almost was in tears.Never in my many years of travel had I seen such a professional response from a local manager whose corporation had completely failed her! It was disgusting to see how some companies treat there dedicated employees who are doing there level best to do their jobs and please the customers they work for. Unfortunately, we will never rent a car from Hertz again, they did not only fail their customers but more importantly their own employees.

Despite reading all these 1 star reviews, our experience at Hertz this morning was flawless. Quick and easy at the counter, straight to the point employees and a nice clean car in return. This facility does NOT deserve all these 1 star reviews. Have the required cards and documentation and there will be no issues.

I rented a car on July 1. At the airport, they did not accept either my credit card or my husband's credit card. They said that they could not help. Although we spent money and time to come to them. I submitted a request for a refund back on July 1. And every time they say that you have to wait 5-10 working days. 1.5 months have passed since then. There is still no return, they do not give the opportunity to communicate with the supervisor. And again they say that the return must be approved by the supervisor. Today I called for the fourth time and heard the same thing: "5-7 days for approval"

Staff got us into a rental efficiently and the car was clean and in good shape. Upon return my wife left something in the car and they were very helpful and walked up with her so she could get it. Appreciate the good service and polite treatment.

These guys never seem to be prepared to have a surge of customers. I’m a gold member, presidents circle. I didn’t have to wait in line at the counter, but it was a 30 to 45 minute wait to get out of the garage. No loyalty program is worth this.
