I love living here. If you want to live in the Arlington metro corridor but don’t want to sacrifice quality of living, this place is for you. The staff is so friendly and knows everybody. It truly feels like a community. The amenities, including a pool, gym, indoor and outdoor lounges, and a coworking space, are all top of the line. Similarly, the apartments are thoughtfully designed and beautifully appointed.

A beautiful apartment with a stunning rooftop pool and the best luxury apartment gym out of every apartment I toured in DC and Arlington. Everyone who works here is professional and friendly. I love the Ballston area, it’s very social and has lots of nice running trails. I couldn’t be happier. The apartment itself is a great layout and very modern. They decorated the common areas beautifully. Everything is clean and the views are outstanding! All of the residents here are sweet, helpful, and social. I couldn’t be happier!

My husband and I lived at J Sol for almost two years and the management was the most friendly and accomodating staff. Shout out to Rachel and Patrick who went above and beyond throughout our time at J Sol. We would recommend J Sol to anyone looking for a luxury apartment building with responsive management that actually care!!!A big thank you to everyone at J sol.

Staff are amazing!!! But if you’re over the age of 35 or have a family be aware. It’s really got a college vibe here. Also furnishings are not great. But again staff is stellar!

J Sol is a fantastic place to live, offering easy access to everything one could desire. In my research, I found that the value at J Sol surpasses that of similar buildings due to its high-quality amenities, new construction, and modern appliances. The apartments are well-insulated and exceptionally quiet.I cannot speak highly enough of the top-notch staff. Everyone possesses an exceptional attitude 24/7. Patrick Huff, in particular, cares for residents as if they were his own and consistently goes above and beyond to make our lives easier. I'm pleased to call J Sol my home.

We have lived at J Sol for two years, and have really loved our time here—the apartment style and floor plan, the location (close to all the Ballston shops and restaurants, plus just a block or two to the metro or to various easy bus connections), and the staff. The concierge and maintenance staff have been responsive and friendly, always accessible. The management and leasing staff are so helpful and personable. We’ve enjoyed the amenities—especially the rooftop relaxing with fabulous views of DC: the fireworks on the 4th were great; and relatively few folks watching, so it was a small and fun group. The lifeguard at the pool— and later the maintenance staff—were so sweet on one occasion to help us find a toy that floated away from my grandson and become caught in the pool filter. Just one little interaction, but part of why this place has always felt like ‘home’ and not just an apartment. The apartment design and quality were absolutely the best of dozens in this area I toured before renting and the maintenance and cleaning staff keep up the common areas constantly. The few fixes I’ve needed have been minor and addressed very quickly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend J Sol, or to move back if our next place—a location change to be closer to family—doesn’t meet the standards J Sol has led us to expect.

As a Washington area artist, I needed to find an apartment near my studio and close to the city. The moment I walked into the J Sol building, I knew I had found the right place. With its dramatic architectural style, beautifully-appointed contemporary apartments, spectacular views, and all the urban conveniences right in the neighborhood, it was an easy decision to make. Last but not least, the friendly J Sol staff makes sure that all your management needs are handled professionally and courteously. This is an experience of living in the nation’s capital at its best.

Don’t be fooled by the nice aesthetics, this building can be a trap…Do you want to pay ~$4k/month for being woken up by construction noice below you as early as 6:30AM (including weekends!!)? Drilling SOO loud you have to periodically leave your apartment? It ultimately becomes your problem that construction can start super early (not in managements control it seems) and that the project is running behind (blown passed dates management has indicated and still no clarity on when noise will end). The noise has started again as of Jan 2023, waking up our new born constantly. After several rounds of complaints, the management is basically telling us it’s your problem and offered a $100 gift card (relative to $4k rent!!) or a chance to move into another apartment in the building which we already indicated doesn’t meet our needs. Ridiculous!Other cons of the building are well covered in other reviews (amenities randomly being unavailable, parking door usually broken, loud washer/dryers, etc). I would add that the windows don’t reduce street noise at all, you can clearly hear conversations, music, cars (well beyond normal level of street noise). Also A/C vent locations don’t make sense in the unit and temperature can vary 10-15 degrees within rooms because of it, too cold in the living room and too hot in the bedrooms during winter when heat is on.Being in a lower level apartment is turning out to be a nightmare!Management is well aware of the issues and no plausible solutions have been offered as discussed above.

I had a nice experience through the tour and leasing process. Patrick was quite responsive and helpful throughout. I’ve now been here 4 months and I remain pleased with my apartment, the building, amenities, the location, and all of the staff. It’s been a nice experience with Patrick and the full leasing team, our front desk crew is great (special shout-out to Roschida who is always smiling and quick to greet me each day) and great work by the crew who manage to keep the entire building fresh and looking top notch. I’m happy with my decision of J Sol.

We have lived at J Sol for almost 2 years. Everything was great until our window shade broke on our ONLY window and we were no longer able to open it and let in sunlight. I submitted a request to fix this issue 6 months ago and the issue has still not been addressed. I Have reached out to J Sol staff on multiple occasions on this problem and still nothing. We are being ignored by J Sol staff and have not had sunlight in our apartment for 6 months. I would NOT recommend living here, unless you like living in the dark!

TL;DR: If you want working amenities and to feel like you’re getting what you’re paying for, maybe look elsewhere.I was one of the first tenants to move into J Sol so initially I attributed any shortcomings to Covid/the building still being brand new. It’s been two years though and there are some pretty obvious issues that have tipped the scales to make it not worth the high cost of living here imo. Here’s why:- BROKEN/OPEN GARAGE DOOR AND THEFT: The garage door has been broken the vast majority of the time I’ve lived here. It’s left open all day and night and we’ve gotten emails about car thefts/break-ins. The parking fee is a whopping $200 too (higher than many other Arlington apts)… so it’s kind of mind boggling to be charging that much when they can’t even close the garage door to provide some level of security to cars (and people) that are down in the garage.- POOL CLOSURES: Management cited a “lifeguard shortage” but I’ve yet to talk to anyone who lives in another Arlington or DC apartment that was actually affected by it. All of them were able to use their pools as usual. When the closures were initially communicated, management said the pool would remain open certain days of the week (Sun-Tues & Thurs) when we could secure a lifeguard but that wasn’t the case. Despite being the only weekend day the pool was supposed to be available, the pool was closed many Sundays and we were given no notice. It was also closed the entirety of Labor Day Weekend despite Sunday and Monday being two of the days the pool was supposed to be open.- CONSTRUCTION NOISE: There has been significant noise due to construction in the retail space for going on 9+ months. I live pretty far above it, but it impacted my ability to work from home. I bought noise-cancelling headphones and can still clearly hear the construction when using them. The noise recently subsided but there is still open retail space on the ground floor so it’s worth noting that it could be an issue again in the future.- NO RECYCLING: If you want to recycle anything, you’ll have to take it a few blocks away to Quincy Park. The trash chute used to have a recycling function but they disabled it and everything is just discarded as trash now. The building touts itself as “Eco-friendly” but that’s clearly just a marketing gimmick.- BROKEN TRASH CHUTE: Trash cutes are almost always broken. As a result, everyone leaves their garbage outside of them and it stinks up the trash room and surrounding hallway.- LOUD WASHERS: They’re top loaders so in addition to being loud, they sometimes shake pretty violently. Given its one of the most expensive buildings in the area, you kinda just expect nicer finishes.- INCORRECT BALANCES ON ONLINE PAYMENT SYSTEM: For 3+ months my balance in our resident portal has either been inaccurate or I’ve been unable to make online payments outside of auto-pay. I’ve gone in person numerous times as well as talked with management via phone and email. It’s a time-suck and hassle that has been annoying to to deal with month after month. There are quite a few other reviews where the pros of living at J SOL are clearly laid out (and don’t get me wrong, there are many!) so it’s truly not all bad. But as mentioned, I recommend looking elsewhere since there are many other comparable buildings in the area that offer all the same positives.

I moved recently to J Sol, only 3 months ago. It's been a great place to live in so far. The location is great, I appreciate the close metro stations. The design of the apartments is very slick, I live very comfortably. Amenities are incredible, especially the gym which I use a lot. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Cleanliness of common areas is great and everything in general runs pretty well.

Honestly meh for the price you are paying. “JSol” has become the running joke of our friend group because of all the amenities are either closed or not working. The building closed the pool Th-Sun (the main pool days) halfway through the summer and also the front desk told us the TVs in the upstairs lounges dont work. These things are a huge bummer when you invite people over to use these amenities. It makes you wonder what you are paying for. Also the key fobs barely work. The building and the apartment are visually appealing but at what cost.
