Wonderful Rescue to work with! Our adoption coordinator answered all questions, and they were just great. We adopted our Miah back in December 2016 and we couldn't be more happier. We love her to pieces!

What a wonderful organization! My family and I are so grateful to the many volunteers and staff who made it possible to bring our latest canine family member to the DC area from South Carolina. Everyone there is so dedicated to improving the welfare of these animals and putting them in loving forever homes. The vetting process is really important and efficient. This organization offers lots of resources before, during, and after adoption to help adopters and their pets. Thank you, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue!

Surprised by all the negative reviews especially about the "neuter/spay by 6 months". They do specifically state that it needs to be done if you adopt a puppy, they mention it multiple times regardless of vet recommendations. If you don't approve, then I would suggest finding another adoption group. The reason we gave 4 stars is because the first adoption event we went to, we were ready to adopt a sweet pup and the volunteer was rude when speaking with us. Maybe she had a bad day? Maybe she was ready to go home? "We literally end in 5 mins" she said. End of conversation. Otherwise everything went smoothly. Filled out all the paperwork. Had everything they were asking for ready to go.It is a loooong but quick process. We adopted our sweet ozzy (fka Nelson) at a different adoption event. It was an organized chaos but there sooo many people adopting it was pretty exciting.I thought $500 was pretty steep but it makes sense with the vaccinations and transportations and having events for people to meet the cute pups. And kittens.I recommend! Also - you need a martingale collar to take them home. Whether you purchase theirs or bring your own.

DC Lucky Dog has been such an incredible organization to work with. First, they do fantastic work in saving countless dogs & cats by getting them into loving homes. We started volunteering as fosters and quickly 'foster failed' by adopting our foster dog. Their staff was incredibly helpful throughout the entire process and they continue to be a fantastic resource. We'll absolutely be working with them in the future!

Had an absolutely beautiful experience with lucky dog animal rescue. Amazing team matched me with the perfect cat for my personality and lifestyle. So thankful I went this route. Super easy to work with and was able to even meet my cat before I decided to adopt her (but of course fell in love with her within seconds of meeting). Highly suggest if you are looking to adopt an animal to work with them.

We found a dog we were interested in on petfinder and submitted an application. The site said to email the coordinator but it's best to just apply on the website first. Then Destiny got back to me about my app, had an interview discussion and was able to ask questions. I happen to adopt a dog that was coming from their SC shelter. So we had our application approved, had a secondary interview to go over the contract and then paid online. Then we showed up at dogma in Arlington on a Saturday and took him home. Simple process and Destiny was amazing! Dogma will give you 15% off if you purchase from them for an adopted dog that day. They had volunteers and unloaded the animals. All seamless process!

So thankful for Lucky Dog Rescue for taking care of Karma before she got to me! I’m the lucky one honestly haha. I would definitely recommend to those looking to give a great home to a pup in need.

Lucky Dog is an amazing rescue organization! There are a number of great rescues in this area, but I chose to foster with LDAR for several reasons.First is their careful screening process to ensure the best fit for the pet and the family. (I love every dog I foster, and want to know they are going to a home that’s the right fit for them.) LDAR has a great reputation for making great matches!Second is their adoption decision model. LDAR has volunteer Adoption Coordinators who review applications, conduct interviews and make final recommendations for adoptions, but fosters are included in the process. As a foster, I didn’t want the responsibility of making that weighty decision, but I love being able to be share my observations about a dog and give input as to the sort of home I think it would thrive in. The Adoption Coordinators are fantastic!Last (but not least!) is Lucky Dog’s emphasis on education, support, and community. I don’t have the knowledge/experience of someone who has spent their whole life with dogs - I’ve only had one. But I want to learn more! LDAR has SO many resources to learn about dog behavior and training. There’s a ton of information on the website and in the foster handbook. There’s a foster FB group where experienced fosters give so much good advice. I even got to take one of my fosters to a training class when we needed a little extra help. I’ve met wonderful new friends volunteering at adoption events, who are also willing to share their knowledge and support. And the AMAZING staff have always been so responsive and supportive regarding any concerns/challenges I’ve encountered.LDAR has only a small group of paid staff, and they are absolutely incredible. They are dedicated and passionate about saving the lives of dogs and cats. They seem to work tirelessly around the clock, giving up weekends, sending emails late at night/in the wee hours of the morning to coordinate the many things that need to be coordinated with a large, volunteer-based organization. I know I only see the very tip of the iceberg of the work they do. They are impressive - LDAR is very well run.LDAR is a top-notch animal rescue - I highly recommend them to anyone looking to volunteer (fostering is just one of many ways to get involved!) or adopt their new furry friend.

We adopted Pebbles through Lucky Dog Animal Rescue after seeing her on PetFinder and learning that she would be at an adoption event in MD. Lucky Dog made the entire adoption process very easy, and everyone was lovely. Pebbles is an absolute joy! Thank you Lucky Dog for honoring us and allowing us to adopt this sweet and intelligent little girl.

We adopted Pippi about a month ago. The process was long but smooth. They definitely want the best for the pets and their new families. Her foster Dad was amazing and gave us tons of information about her which helped us getting into a new family routine.

Adoption coordinator, Kady, was fantastic. We had recently learned that one of our dogs was going blind, she only 5yo, so vet recommended a puppy before her sight was gone (6monthish) Kady and Lucky Dog Rescue were very responsive to the urgency and we were able to find a puppy within 2 weeks of our application. Now Chica has a helpful friend and a homeless pup has a home. We couldn’t be happier.

I had put up a review about the truly awful experience we had with lucky dog in 2022 (they threatened to sue us over wanting to wait an extra month for neutering at our vet's recommendation) and I just got a message from Yelp that they removed my review bc it wasn't clear that I had actually been a customer of Lucky Dog. Mirah is playing games with the reviews and Yelp will lose all credibility if it deletes bad reviews at the suggestion of the business. Mirah pays herself $225K per year and her development director makes $119K. Lucky Dog has almost $7 Million in assets. They should care more about the animals but it's the placement fees they are after. If Yelp allows this review to appear, Mirah will no doubt come up with some excuse why I am disgruntled or confused. How many other bad reviews were simply deleted????projects.propublica.org/…

Worst place to come. Save ur time and go to another shelter. They are here to help themselves not the dogs.

Lucky dog is an amazing organization that is the reason we now have two family members, Kyra and Bailey. This organization is truly dedicated to finding the right match for their pups, and they operate above board with the animals’ welfare in mind. If you’re looking for a new family member, definitely check out Lucky Dog Animal Rescue!

Incredible organization! These volunteers go above and beyond, adopted a half chihuahua half beagle in July and couldn’t be happier. Their process truly shows they care and my pup has a clean bill of health and loving home.
