The Thrift Shop & Donations YMCA at VA Tech is a well-laid-out thrift store where variety abounds and you can easily spend hours hunting through everything. It is described as the real deal and a thrifters’ store, with a large assortment of dishes, kitchenware, a section for vinyl records, and a much better book selection than other thrift stores. Many find it a great place to shop, noting the excellent selection of goods and fair prices, and love that it is a nonprofit. Virginia Tech labeled items are available for a fraction of new cost. The staff are generally noted as kind and helpful, with specific mention that the older lady at the donation area is always friendly and helpful, making it easy to drop off donations. However, some recent changes have disappointed long-time customers. While still an important part of the community, complaints include that reasonably priced furniture is less common, with decent pieces now priced in the hundreds of dollars. Appliances and lamps are no longer consistently labeled as working or not, and prices on miscellaneous items can range from great to ridiculous, with some used items priced higher than new ones. This leads some to feel the store may be catering more to students and bargain hunters than to low-income community members needing affordable household items. Despite this, many still support the business for its good things and community role, hoping for improvements to make items more accessible again.
This thrift store is laid out very well! I have never seen such organized furniture. The housewares are also priced to sell here and I got some amazing plates and bowls during my visit. I am very pleased and will be back!

Good selection. Organization is a mixed bag. Prices are written on items in black marker, so hard to see sometimes. Will go back as the amount of options is vast and a fun time to look around and support the local community.
