It's a good place for an easy stroll through forest and fields.

This is a very well kept preserve that sits just on the cusp of Haymarket while being free for public access.
I go here about once or twice a week to do wildlife photography and get my steps in outside of college classes. There's a-lot of wildlife on this particular preserve, especially a-lot of birds. I've never had an issue with parking but I'm here about 7-10 in the morning on weekdays, holidays and weekends may be different.
All in all it's a beautiful preserve that I travel 30 minutes to get to. Highly recommend if you get a chance to visit and walk the trails.

Dog-friendliness: You can bring your dog with you but of course you are responsible for picking up after them.

By far my favorite hiking spot in NOVA. Well maintained and marked trails. The Leopold trail is the perfect length at about 4 mi to take the edge off our German shorthaired pointer. Nice mix of field and forest cover. Bonus points, there are 3 breweries within 5 mi for an after hike pint.

I can immediately see the trails here on Google Maps are horribly inaccurate. The trail signage onsite could use some improvement as well. This is a really nice place. The combination of woodland, fields, brush, wetland, slopes, rocks, and the markers explaining the local history or ecology make this a really interesting and enjoyable place to short hike. I even saw a Coyote here in mid-afternoon in 2022. I never expected my first sighting to be so close and yet I almost didn't notice Willey slipping into the brush. It's also interesting on the outer loop that there is this wavering transition between suburbia and nature that constantly pokes at you how thin the line between them is.Generally, the preserve is fairly clean. One problem I recently realized is the lack of sufficient places along the trails to break. The trails are narrow with briars on each side. There's little room, or even bypasses, to get around others especially with all the dogs coming along. I'd imagine people creating impromptu spaces to break could become problematic (like so-called "social trails") for a preserve. On the other hand, I could imagine such features enabling new problems. Some areas just off the trail with a large downed log, or single bench, would be fair.I hope this place does not become stupid-crowded and trashed like Fairfax county. After recently seeing the parking lot almost full on an absurdly warm Winter weekend posing as early Spring- I can see this Preserve quickly becoming the trampled town park; (Haymarket continues to expand). Hopefully visitors remain respectful and truly enjoy it.

Hiked 4mile Leopold's loop trail. Nice part: saw lakes, cardinals and other birds, beaver lodges, deer, ducks. Clean, Parking lot we were at could probably accommodate 25 vehicles and has one porta pottyBad part: very confusing trail signs with arrows pointing left and right, not for directionally challenged. also have to cross a busy, public road. About 5% really muddy sections so hiking shoes strongly recommended (see photos)

This is a beautiful little park tucked back where you'd never find it if there weren't signs. Great trails that are well marked for a nice walk.

A hidden gem in an area otherwise at risk of overdevelopment. Great place for birding and native plants.

I absolutely love this place! It is such a wild gem in the middle of development. Kudos to White House farms and the other conservation organizations that got this into a conservation easement years ago. The first time I went there were five swans in the wetlands, I have never seen them again

This was a beautiful place for a walk. Make sure to check the map near the entrance of the parking to determine how far you want to go. The Leopold’s loop is 4 miles long. Others are way shorter. A stroller would certainly be difficult in some areas if not impossible. There are a lot of roots and larger rocks along the trail. There are markers to help guide you on the trails and wonderful informational plaques. The is parking on both sides of the road with a shorter single loop trail on one side. Multiple trails and the main 4 mile loop on the other. There is a port a potty in the parking lot. You will see an abundance of wildlife.

Fantastic place! So many miles of trails and things to see. We've only been once but will absolutely keep coming back. Well marked and cared for trails. Nice parking. Even the Porta potty there was clean.
